Just went down the street and one of the barbers is open with a chair outside cutting peoples hair.
It's Mavericks like that we need shaping lockdown policy.

Who needs doctors, and epidemiologists when we could listen to the barber.
    He's not a Maverick, he's an arsehole.

They have had vast resources flung at them for little reason. Stands to reason they have to make up something to do to justify their existence

Aren't they going to have to go round every day now to the houses of people who are meant to be self quarantining, having recently arrived in Ireland. That will use a bit of resource

If they try to extend the lockdown for another month, I simply don't see the restrictions getting followed.

The minority who feel that way probably aren't following restrictions at the moment but there's a limited amount of damage they can do with businesses closed and travel curtailed.

Has that plan come in yet?

It's only Monday! The 5th May is 7-8 sleeps away! Doubt there'll be too much publicly on it until after NEPHT meet tomorrow.

I'd not be surprised if they wait till Friday to give an update

ok - supposed to have come from the civil service. take from it what you will. that's all I know.

but the changes are so incremental I'm not sure why someone would bother to fake it.

Very much says to me "We don't really know what to do next so 5km, waiting to see what the Germans do"

Don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread as I'm only catching up, but this is NOT from the civil service.

This screenshot is from a RED C Survey from a few days ago, where they provided hypothetical scenarios and then asked you to comment on them, their lenience, the possibility of correct implementation etc.

The above picture is one of the scenarios - I completed the survey myself.

No, I'm expecting something midweek, Thursday at the very latest.

Leo had the masses eating out of the palm of his hand when he spoke of real heroes not wearing capes in that soppy address of the nation all those weeks back. If he comes out to face us all again on May 5 and increases the lockdown for another 3-4 weeks the only costume he should be wearing is Dick Turpins as he'll be robbing us of our freedom. Enough is enough. Most of us have abided by the rules up to now. Time to start easing restrictions with a detailed plan as to when each sector may open up depending on how well our health service is coping. Our government is totally reactionary and depending on the success and bravery of other countries to make any kind of decisions. Italy, the country that was riddled with this disease, has announced a plan to reopen most secors of the economy over the next month. Leo grow a pair and stop hiding and waiting for others to lead the way. Release the countries pressure valve and let us breath again. Give us some hope.

Italy is further down the path than we are. I've emboldened the key sentence in your message. The 'lockdown' is solely dependent upon how the health service is coping. It's currently coping. The issue for the government and the health professionals is to determine if relaxing the restrictions is sustainable in the short term. You've abided the rules up to now because you knew the reasoning. If the restrictions are extended, the reasoning is the same...why do you think that would be objectionable?

They might do it tomorrow, watch out for massive numbers reported this evening for a justification of further lockdown.
I'd be surprised if I'm not back later to go, see I told you.

Doubt they will go that early

Doubt they have the unwinding the restrictions plan finalised either

I think they have put themselves in a tricky situation. They should have kept the current restrictions in place until well after the bank holiday weekend maybe the 8th. Because they are due to expire early next week the government will be under pressure to announce something this week but that runs the risk of people taking any easing of restrictions announced for after the 5th as applicable over the bank holiday weekend. They should announce this week that they will give an update on restrictions on Monday night to avoid confusion.

Can a Gaeilgeoir confirm that Fanacht means Wait ? Would be the perfect name for an Operation that kept hundreds waiting at checkpoints.

Can also be "stay", I assumed Operation Fanacht was basically an Irish version of calling it "Operation Stay at Home".

    Turning into full conspiracy now.

    Priceless.

Why can't each county ban international travel and any suppliers that do need to travel are tested on entry and exit? Each country should eradicate it first. That would surely be quicker than a vaccine?

18 deaths and 380 new cases today.
No justification to keep current restrictions in place after May 5th with those figures.

    makes sense

I posted the pic originally - didn't say that it was real for sure. good discussion came out of it though!

hopefully the actual updates will be more substantial

    what other scenarios were presented?

Good to see them dropping. Fingers crossed it’ll keep going.
Just an anecdote but passed my local testing centre today twice and no cars queuing at all- last few Mondays it’s been very busy so hopefully a good sign that it’s dropping publicly now

The justification is we had lower cases per day before we had restrictions. I said last week we need to be between 100 and 200 cases per day to see easing and Tony has just confirmed it. He said we need to see lower numbers this week before we see changes. I too want to see easing but we need not to undo are work we have done.

Are you suggesting that some people would prefer more deaths.? I don't know if I'm more surprised at the stupidity or the crassness.
There is no lockdown brigade, nobody wants these restrictions and everyone would love a return to normality.
You know that though, don't even know why I'm engaging with idiotic comments.

He said they be no reason to remove the restrictions right now unless it improves dramatically in a week. I think you may be wrong there.

Do you actually think people want lockdown to continue indefinitely or do you accept that people are happy to do what the government has instructed for the betterment of everyone?

Do you want all the restrictions to finish now?

The one big obstacle will be the lack of testing . And that is down to the HSE , we have done our part but have the HSE stepped up .
