As plenty of people have said before the 2km, and then 5km is for exercise only. It refers to nothing else.

Below would seem to preclude you from visiting family/partner really, although no one is stopping anyone anyway.

It refers to freedom of movement. It states that you can exercise within 2km of your home. I am saying this needs to be removed for people to have their freedom of movement back, and be able to see loved ones.

I know right, I mean the CMO must be delighted with the pandemic.. and having to make decisions in the moment on it, with the responsibility of same.

I'd say he's having the best few months of his life, no wonder so many absolute heroes like yourselves are lining up for the job.

Yes must be dreadful with that salary etc.

He and his team will be measured by their performance ultimately on deaths- which is poor by any stretch of the imagination. I’m not into false idols, particularly in his case where there’s no justification

Increasing the range to 5km won't happen, it's either 2k or no K, I mean is there an actual scientific rational behind this?

In the UK they say exercise once per day, doesn't say within 2km, is science different across the border?

I think in France or Italy, it was within 100m or something.

The 2k is an abritary limit that came out really, but it was done to stop the people rushing to beaches and mountains that happened back in the first weekend of the original restrictions. Loads of potentially sick people rushing from Dublin/Cork etc to villages on coasts just makes it harder to trace the sickness and increases the spread.

If people acted with some common sense, it'd be fine, but you know the first sign of sunshine, parks and beaches would be full of people and the virus would go crazy.

Interesting article on the rte news feed from an owner of a building site in ballymun.
O cohusing Cohusing alliance are disappointed they are not on the list of 35 housing developments that have been giving permission to restart works.
Sounds like there is a set of plans in place

One month review seems very long and not in keeping with smaller incremental steps that other countries are taking.

I'd say increasing the limit to 5km would nearly annoy people more than keeping it at 2km

    Agreed.

Gets to be a celebrity for a few months and hopes his legacy is how he handled this, rather than how he handled cervicalcheck.

Neither of which are anything to crow about.

I don't think anyone idolized him just takes more faith in him then the many many experts here with the PHD in Health and experience. The plan should have been started to be released this weekend I agree but hell that be a green light for many here it seems to start doing whatever they wanted now. Some of us just can't be trusted

Cervical check I agree let's not be haste on all on the Corona virus yet. Big questions on nursing homes will have to be answered

Yes - changes, if true are like

"We don't really know what to do next, we're holding out for more time, hopefully the Germans or some other competent nation have a good plan that works and we can copy that one"

Some social housing developments got the go ahead to recommence last week.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/work-resumes-at-just-three-social-housing-sites-in-dublin-city-1.4236260

This developer was annoyed about being left off that list.

Speak for yourself there. Vast majority can be trusted and compliance has been extremely high, despite what the hysterics on social media would have you believe.
There’s nothing open so it’s just wild exaggeration- happens when people are frustrated with too much time on their hands

Measures on screenshot look very plausible based on the rumours.

Though the template looks exactly like the gov.ie page templates (https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/2aa01f-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-sunday-26-a/) so does look like someone just went in and replaced the text on the gov.ie page. Doesn't seem likely that an internal communication would follow the public facing webpage template. Unless it's an unpublished draft or something.

They said that 3 weeks ago too !!!

Infection rates are down to 0.5-0.7 if we get them down lower say 0.1-0.5 we would be on a winner, it would mean no severe restrictions for weeks if not months, ease them now and we could be back to where we were 5 weeks ago.

Leaving this here as it's a piece of evidence that restrictions worked in Wuhan.

The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus pandemic began, has discharged all of its coronavirus patients, as the nation reported only three new cases and no new deaths.

According to the National Health Commission, as of Sunday the number of new coronavirus patients in Wuhan was at zero. “Thanks to the joint efforts of Wuhan and medical staff from around the country,” said a spokesman for the commission, Mi Feng.

Showed it to a senior HSE manager, BS, he said the language being used DIY, beaches, etc just isn't plausible

Not to say that something similar couldn't be published next Tuesday, just that in his opinion that notice is not true and made up

The Gardai are starting an operation tomorrow at 7am which they say will be even bigger than the Easter one. They will be targeting tourist areas & smaller roads to prevent people avoiding the checkpoints. Meanwhile feel free to carry on with your street party, soccer game, traveller wedding, or driving down from the North.

Precisely, the lockdown didn't work, and won't work indefinitely.

A few people have asked you already to back up your assertion that the lockdown hasnt worked.
Could you please answer the above before your daily meltdown and card?

    I hope that is fake:

    - 5km or 2km limit makes no sense - it's either 2km or nothing

    - 1 month for review way too long

    - childcare for essential workers like supermarkets? How would that work

If that was true Irish public will not accept it.

Leo had the masses eating out of the palm of his hand when he spoke of real heroes not wearing capes in that soppy address of the nation all those weeks back. If he comes out to face us all again on May 5 and increases the lockdown for another 3-4 weeks the only costume he should be wearing is Dick Turpins as he'll be robbing us of our freedom. Enough is enough. Most of us have abided by the rules up to now. Time to start easing restrictions with a detailed plan as to when each sector may open up depending on how well our health service is coping. Our government is totally reactionary and depending on the success and bravery of other countries to make any kind of decisions. Italy, the country that was riddled with this disease, has announced a plan to reopen most secors of the economy over the next month. Leo grow a pair and stop hiding and waiting for others to lead the way. Release the countries pressure valve and let us breath again. Give us some hope.

Yes, Mr. McHugh, it's all down to Leo

it's less risky just to wait and see - the Irish are not innovators in this regard and mostly copy stuff or take it from the EU. I'll not be surprised if the actual restrictions update are very similar to what is on that page.

Holohan for one has basically being saying "don't change anything" for the last 2 weeks

holding 1 referendum with no risk does not negate this point.

ok - supposed to have come from the civil service. take from it what you will. that's all I know.

but the changes are so incremental I'm not sure why someone would bother to fake it.

Very much says to me "We don't really know what to do next so 5km, waiting to see what the Germans do"

    5Xf39C6.jpg

Thanks for that even if it turns out to be fake afterwards

That would be of very little benefit to me

Only one is I could exercise 3km more

    No difference in travel

That would be up to 3 months without seeing friends, family, relationships

A month is a very long time in between any lifting of restrictions

    More playing for time

Don't think those changes would be accepted for an additional month and that compliance and good will would fall
