Not sure about anyone else but found this weekend incredibly hard. Complete and utter lockdown fatigue now.
    I think it's been a combination of factors;

    1. (smug) Tony Holohan and FG with their threats to extend the lockdown
    2. The seemingly never ending number of new cases and deaths- we've been in lockdown for so long now- if this is such a successful strategy then why are they remaining stubbornly high?
    3. The seemingly relentless flying wedge of people who think this is some kind of strategy that is working and you're nuts if you don't blindly follow it
    4. The lack of close contact with family, friend, work colleagues and even work clients has been really jarring on top of everything else
    5. The travel restrictions which are so pernicious you can't even go for a drive and a walk to some place to clear your head

To really cheer you up, next week is a bank holiday.

That will be 3 bank holidays wasted now.

And a good Friday where the bars should have been open.

From talking to people I think the family thing is hitting hard and for a lot of them on May 5th, it finishes one way or another.

    This.

    Am enjoying the thread.

So many angry people, so many naive people, so many people like myself.

Ah well, wine/beer o'clock was ages ago now. Forgiveness is everything.

And no Mass either. The shock of that is immense of a Sunday to be fair.

One of the few positives from all of this.

Yes the Bank Holidays have been completely spoiled. And we don't get that many, they should have been moved I think for morale sake. Easter was like a bad dream, i was glad to get back to work.

The sadder thing is those plonkers in AGS are going to re-enforce the restrictions for next weekend- they're already more active and determined to curtail any movement at all costs. Beginning to really despise them- don't know how common that sentiment is but if reflected widely enormous damage has been to their standing amongst the general public. That will be hard to rebuild in many peoples's psyche- there appears to be zero empathy or understanding from them which i find chilling.

    7. This my favourite time of year- after 6 months of horrible weather I feel the beautiful weather has been completely spoiled, stuck at home. Had this been last Jan/Feb with wet misery every day I probably would not have minded so much. Good weather is a precious commodity here.

But how? If the government continue the restrictions as is and enforced by AGS then there is nothing we can do. Unless there is mass disobedience, which i don't sense an appetite for.

The weather forecast is poor for next wkend might be small help for people. Maybe tony will ease some restrictions on Monday then, if we do our homework and are good kids.

I think it's time to reopen up society
Your already talking 8 weeks of this shutdown
People are suffering. Our country is suffering.
But I think Leo will push it out the Monday after the June bank holiday

Yeah I haven’t seen my boyfriend in 5 weeks. Come May 5th that ends for me regardless of what the government say.

We're all going to be living with risk in our lives from now on my poor friend.

    That's the new reality

We can mitigate the risk greatly and we will but the effects of society not opening up will be worse, much much worse my man and worse than you could imagine.

But we will open up my friend because in the end the human need for friendship overcomes the fear of death.

It always has and always will

You have a lot to learn about life and the joys of living my poor friend.

I urge you to open your mind and stop being so negative about life.

PS the stay home, stay safe, support the hse comments are becoming just slightly a bit tiresome my poor man
Would you ever stfu with that condescending bs 'Poor man/friend' just shows you to be an AH.

If everybody followed the restrictions this would have been over in 2-3 weeks, cases keep increasing as community spread is obviously picking up again

No. It's clearly the HSE f*ck up in the nursing homes causing the problems. nothing to do with restrictions or lack of.

That's what I used to think, but it's not true. They want people to get it. Just slower to ease the strain on the hospitals. Most people will eventually get it and like me and my oh have no jobs either......

Correct. In a town in the north-west for example, a non essential shop is open, its facebook page is advertising away with their phone number and people enter if they knock on the door.

Are we allowed drive to the beach for a swim or take the boat out on Lough Ree?

well, according to most we are allowed to walk in groups, go shopping for just a few cans, disregard social distancing when in the queue, get the bus to go to the office even if we can still work from home and so on. This is not a real lock down, I'm sure you know what other EU countries had to go through

The public have been hugely compliant in their efforts. Social distancing is more or less de rigeur. Sorry this just isn't credible anymore

There's 15,000 guards and 5 million of us with 250,000 guns. It wouldn't be a fair fight.
I've driven around a good bit I've a pass and they've all been the finest nothing heavy handed, I'd say there getting as pissed off with this as we are.

The garda checkpoints only work with low traffic volumes.

They can't hold people for an hour at a checkpoint in the summer heat with all the groceries going off in the boot.

Some of them must have a jot of common sense somewhere. Appreciate they are taking their orders from the top.
