Sweden is not doing that great, while we could have done a lot better if people hadn't dropped the ball with the restrictions after Easter

But they surely tested everybody that died right? so just because they tested less living people doesn't mean their death rate is any higher,it just means we wasted far more money as well as the lost money on shutting down the country and paying everyone wages to do nothing,a double whammy.

What are the figures for tranamission by people flouting the restrictions?

The only person I know of who openly admitted flouting restrictions got the disease and ended up in ICU. Been out of action for a few weeks at this point but due back to work tomorrow I think.

    Spreading virus in the community

Or maybe social distancing and bankrupting the nation is a fruitless exercise that won't mitigate anything.

Its hardly a proven science, with plenty of qualified people out there questioning the efficacy of the lockdown.

Ok, so now even social distancing is too much of an effort?

Someone said here yesterday it might be 5-10 km, I haven't seen my 86 year old parents in 6 weeks, the loneliness will kill them yet :(

What are you waiting for? I would not hesitate, I’d have visited them several times over if I were you. The “rules”, such as they are, do mention something about it being ok to visit / care for elderly relatives anyway. There isn’t a Garda in the country that would prevent you doing so.

Tbh I find it bizarre that some people follow these rules to the letter. If you have a legitimate reasonable reason to travel beyond this totally “pulled out of their arses” 2km limit, then just bloody go.

Anyone else find the so-called funny videos at the end of the news tonight a bit galling?

About a hundred people in ringsend out dancing together. A take-off of Peter Kays charity singalong with folk walking up the street together.

Ok, so they were all 2 metres apart, but that's not the rules we have been given.

If I was to walk a few miles to my local beach to take a walk with myself, I'd be getting chased home by a guard. If I was to drive 15 miles to Lidl instead of 5 miles to my local , I'd be called irresponsible.

But sure get 100 people together for a dance in the street and you're great craic and doing no harm .

Is it not better to have more cases and obviously less deaths. The more people have it the better , the sooner it burns out?

Think they're probably trying to reduce the spread of the virus.

I have not seen those have you a link please. As you say its not an exact science possible because it not have had to be done at a wider scale.

Do you just read the scientists that agree with you.

We are hardly bankrupt yet stop trying to scaremonger. If it goes on too long yes we will I agree but not yet

    Why wait until the 5th?

We’ve stuck to lockdown this long, we may as well do it for the last week of it. But if it’s still not working and they extend it, we won’t bother.

How do you reckon 'its not working'?

Article in the Irish Independent stating that most of the new cases are in Care and Nursing homes. This is why numbers are high at the moment. I for am am absolutely fed up of this lockdown, especially as it becomes clear there is no plan coming from Government.
What was the point of the strict lockdown? Why extend it for so long? Why threaten further restrictions when there's close to zero transmission in the community? Where on earth is the exit strategy and plan for keeping the country going while keeping those at risk safe? Threats of further restrictions to me spell we haven't a clue what do to so stay under lockdown.
Here are a few ideas for those who are like rabbit in headlights at the moment and in charge:

    1. Open up in early May to soft lockdown, similar to what was in place prior to the stricter restrictions. Encourage social distancing, keep people informed.
    2. Communicate with businesses your plan in advance to allow them to come up with a plan. The longer this goes on the worse it gets.
    3. Introduce Covid 19 sick leave for anyone who may get the virus when restrictions are relaxed.
    4. Monitor hospitals and ICU's - keep public informed at all times so they understand if restrictions had to return.
    5. If cases don't spike and all goes ok, re-open further for end of May/June and monitor as above.

DO NOT COME OUT IN MAY AND ANNOUNCE FURTHER RESTRICTIONS BASED ON THE CURRENT SITUATION - it is unwarranted, unjustified, and will not be accepted by people. Society will not function well in discontent.

They are 150 miles away, my sister travelled 40 miles to see them last friday and was stopped and interrogated 4 times. They are ok but really miss everyone, I wouldn't risk infecting them I just want to sit in their garden at a safe distance.

The mere fact that you visited several shops is enough evidence that you are not staying home. There are plenty of reports from people all the time that contradict your statement. it is what it is, a lot of people have been compliant but too many haven't

Even cork Boy had to visit the local shop recently, i called him up on it just like you are doing now and got no reaction. Sometimes people feel like going for an Ice cream.

Like in Sweden?? No lockdown and less cases then we have

They have around about the same amount of cases as us, are testing less than half as much and have double the deaths.

Saying the lockdown is pointless because there were 700 new cases shows a complete misunderstanding of the virus and the reason for any restrictions.

More people have it = more deaths
Every country who got a spike in infected people ended up with a high mortality rate, we are trying to avoid that

There was one in Tralee as well, in fairness it was done for a good cause.

I think itd be better for people to just donate the money without having to do this cringey nonsense.

How will a shopping trolley solve the problem of the car. Tie it on to the back?

Ah you just go a bit mad and walk to the shops and fill it up!

I know most males won't do that, but in the last few weeks (as part of my exercise and two birds one stone), I took a backpack that has wheels on it to the supermarket for the craic. Over the shoulder on the way out, wheeled on the way back.

Admittedly I am a bit mad. But enjoyed combining a walk with a cellar run. :P

It is obviously having no effect on your economic situation now or in the future. Lucky you.

Agree with your point but just to note that those figures are per million people.

They danced up a bit of a road its hardly 10KM for crying out loud. You can do that yourself and a friend. You will not be chased home by a quard if you are within the 2KM and acting responsible. Talk of hyperbole. Nobody says (who has some sense) driving 15 miles to your supermarket is bad my brother would have to do so out in the countryside.
