It was R Kings, I was really surprised when he said it was southern reg, like yourself I thought they only did northern stuff.

They've had heaps of southern cars, not as many as northern but still a lot

They buy cars north and south of the border. Anything they think will be easy to sell tickets for.
They are based in NI because the laws on raffles are more lax there.

Not sure if they’re much more laxed down here. RTÉ basically run a similar type of raffle several times a week

In saying that unless you are in a fairly confident position that you can off load your prize fairly handy it's not much of a prize if it comes with a fairly high vrt/nox bill just saying

Rubbish, a car costs an average of €30, I don't think you'd have any trouble offloading it for a profit.

Exactly, many of the cars are worth €20k - €30k once tax is paid and they frequently give the winner £2000 if VRT is owned to help pay some of it.
I'm fairly sure you would still come out with a very nice profit if you were to sell the car.

I think their business model may take advantage of those that have gambling problems but so do bookies.

I seen a comment yesterday where someone had spent over £2k on tickets and was still no better off

Yes and because Ireland is a small country there is a good chance you will know a friend of a friend who has won, giving people false hope of their chances of winning.

But I'm not sure how you would protect these people from their own stupidity without also outlawing bookies.

Some people go the the pub and drink 200 euro and piss it down the drain, some people buy a 20 euro raffle ticket.

The kind of people that drinks that much would not stop at one ticket in the same way they would not stop at a couple of pints.

Facebook is flooded with all these raffle competitions.

They all seem to be Northern Ireland companies.

Yes when one company succeeds you will always see many copy cats.
I do think there must be something about the law in NI that makes it an attractive location to base these raffles. I also think their popularity and high visibility will lead to an eventual changes to the law in NI.

Getting sick of them now. Every 2nd item on FB is a raffle now.

R Kings had a nice yellow Ford RS2000 for raffle on Sat night. Sold out in 2 hours. Personal preference but I would prefer to see stuff like that raffled but wouldn't be for everyone,

It seems more that they're stupid rather than scammers to me, gobdaws.

      From their FB Page:
      Attention
As half the country knows by now we had an issue with our platform when trying to pick a winner for the BMW 420d Cash Alternative Cash or Car Competition.
Because of this we are going to honour the original winner of the draw .
The Kawasaki KX 250 draw went ahead smoothly and we have been in touch with who will be receiving his bike.
Please note the amount of abuse and the witch hunt that this has turned into over doing a live draw has been more than just a headache for us!
We can state the following with certainty however:
      • We are a genuine registered Competitions Company based out of Cork.
      • We are constantly in contact with Revenue to ensure compliance and that all our taxes etc are paid.
      • The word scam has been thrown around a lot. We are able and more than happy to prove to the relevant authorities that there is no such scam and we feel confident in the fact that we are a fully legitimate above board company and our book keeping is indeed up to date with Revenue.
Sharing our personal Facebook Profile Pages and contacting us and even threatening us is simply not acceptable under any circumstance and members abusing us or the page may result in a ban from the page.
Moving forward we will be using Googles Random Number Generator to keep it straight forward when choosing winners, we do admit we tried to be fancy and use an integrated generator (which cannot be fixed by us - again we are happy to prove this to the relevant authorities if needed).
As the saying goes "if it ain't broke don't fix it" which is the case for how we tried to pick winners.
At the end of the day we are only human so please keep that in mind when sending threatening messages or sharing personal details around.
      Cheers - Car Raffles Ireland

Same thing happened on the first Win Car Ireland draw too. The announced the wrong winner.

The people who both run and take part in these raffles are exactly the kind of people who would not know the correct use of "seen and saw" or "did and done"

Quality post! If a bit mean to mock them in this way :)
