Tony Holohan was crystal clear today that if this was the 5th of May nothing could be relaxed. They need a lot more progress.

It's going to depend on people's behaviour between now and then and to be honest, those who want the restrictions lifted, are doing themselves a disservice every time they encourage people that it's all grand now and you should prepare for some big change in May. (there won't be big change in May in any case incidentally so I don't know where that opinion comes from)

Because human nature is more and more people will take risks before then in anticipation and this goes on to threaten lives of the most vulnerable.

It's not a good signal to be giving at this time.

If there is not a big change in May a hell of a lot more lives will be lost due to suicide depression etc. Me included because my business will be gone. I am conscious my employees will be in the same situation as me.

You said yourself, businesses can re-open once they use social distancing and hygiene procedures. People are adhering to social distancing, there's now plenty of hand sanitiser on the market. Everybody can crack on so.

I decided a long time ago to not engage in a discussion with trolls, especially those that bring nothing interesting to the table bar the same recycled, old, boring and repetitive waffle. You are not worth the effort nor the time ;).

I understand but like I said it depends on people's behaviour ultimately.

The only way to keep spread suppressed is to stay apart.

That gives the best chance of some changes in May.

Ah no don't worry the usual suspects will be along to browbeat you, tell you to get over it and ask you if you want to kill old people by stepping outside.

People would be surprised by the amount of men who admit they are struggling at the moment. Given how difficult it is for men to admit that they're struggling, there are certainly multiples more who are in the same boat but wouldn't admit it.

We will destroy our country, our economy, our society, and countless lives if we don't attempt to return to a certain level of normality with social distancing included.

I'm a troll for agreeing with you that businesses can safely re-open?

This is the person who believes that China had 1 case per million of population. They will revise that figure in line with the rest of the world until it seems like they have done a great task. A lovely bell curve up and down to zero cases. Right yeah Right

That's why people need to use their cop on and maintain there discipline for the next couple of weeks.

We get out of the nightmare sooner if people hold their nerve for another couple of weeks when, hopefully, some easing happens.

I'd be conscious of the fact that he has to maintain a message vigilance during lockdown, and that people may perceive him saying that some restrictions would be lifted on May 5th based on today's stats to mean the battle is all but won, which could result in a relaxation in general adherence to the measures. I hate the vibe of being treated like a child who has to be scared into compliance, but the reality is a large portion of the population act like that so if the shoe fits...

People will start to lose patience if there is not some easing of restrictions on May 5th, telling us to "stay the course" will only work for so long.

No we are not. It has been confirmed that if we relax at any stage the nightmare gets worse. And there is no cure or vaccine so why are we doing this?

The vast vast majority are still doing as their told

There's only so much we can be told that we're doing so so we'll, flattening the curve, but not well enough

Here's another 2,4,6 weeks of the same and maybe we might do a small opening

But you can't travel, see family, friends, those in relationships

Where's the reward for the effort?

That will also put people off

    Sure what's the point?

I will admit that I will be very disappointed if there is no easing at all after the bank holiday weekend. I have been adhering to the restrictions and starting missing meeting with my friends. Video calls are ok but can only get you that far. . . fingers crossed. . . :)

Yes my elderly parents have said there is not much point in living if they can not live.

Was walking the dog today. Was disturbed passing an old couple going for a walk and being openly chastised by a neighbour for going out.

Yeah we were told May 5th and now Varadkar and Holohan basically said not to expect anything to happen at all on that date.

There is going to be pushback and it will happen soon.

Agreed. I think most people are sick and tired of these endless cliches. Life must begin to return to normal ASAP. Else there’ll be nothing left to return to

If the incubation period is up to 14 days, which is what we've been told, and we've been in lockdown for more than 14 days, and R0 is already where it needs to be

This point makes no sense. The incubation period of the disease has no bearing at all on the lock down measures (it's not actually a "lock down" - bit of an over dramatisation)

you can't expect people to sit on their hands for weeks and weeks beyond that timeframe

Why not? You're not being asked to go to war, you are being asked to watch television.

We can put our shoulder to the wheel and remove the stone of lockdown come May5th.

I heard Holohan this eve pouring cold water on things. Same guy who opposed nursing home restrictions earlier on.
Did Varadkar come out with the same?

They have to at least remove some restrictions, such as the 2km limit.

The 2km limit is an absolute joke and mean couple living separate cannot see each other etc

Why is that? Are you setting up a shebeen in your back garden or something? Because you certainly won`t be getting one in any pub anywhere on the 5th May or any other time in the foreseeable future. Not legally anyway.

Lots of men and women would have no issue in a war. Its basic fight or flight. We have chosen flight. Some are not predestined to do that, its not natural for some.

That’s if the control freaks “allow us”. And they have plenty of support for continuing this bankrupting insanity

    Double check the legality part
