Kermit.de.frog wrote: » Tony Holohan was crystal clear today that if this was the 5th of May nothing could be relaxed. They need a lot more progress. It's going to depend on people's behaviour between now and then and to be honest, those who want the restrictions lifted, are doing themselves a disservice every time they encourage people that it's all grand now and you should prepare for some big change in May. (there won't be big change in May in any case incidentally so I don't know where that opinion comes from) Because human nature is more and more people will take risks before then in anticipation and this goes on to threaten lives of the most vulnerable. It's not a good signal to be giving at this time.

For example comparing our rates of deaths etc to that of the uk seems pretty pointless when they don’t include deaths in nursing homes. It’s like saying I’m the premiership that we won’t consider any goals that Man City conceded away from home but the others do! Just wondering if anyone has any idea?

It stands to reason that if you test more people you will detect more cases, that's a positive thing. You need to look at our death statistics in more detail, and focus in on what we can do in relation to PPE and support for nursing homes. Going off your statistics and analysis, we are ready to get people back to work but must continue with social distancing which is easily achievable, and we must do our utmost to support the elderly and vulnerable.

I think that the only change on the 5th of May would be to allow more businesses/industries to open as long as social distancing and hygiene measures are adhered to. WFH, schools closed, 2 KM limit to still apply and to be reviewed every 2 to 3 weeks. The aim is to test the impact on allowing more businesses to open, manage any spike in cases/R0 and other important data, get them to a comfortable level and then lift another restriction. Rinse repeat. In terms of countries that have 10K or more confirmed cases we are: - Ranked 3rd in terms of cases per 1M population - Ranked 9th in terms of deaths per 1M population - Ranked 7th in terms of tests per 1M population. This is important to show that this health emergency is taken seriously by those in charge, and that today's restrictions and work will (hopefully) give good results in the long run.
