I think Fitzgeme had a Porsche 911 of that era a few cars back before he became an electric convert. He would be a good man to ask.

In a small market like Ireland probably wouldn’t be too hard to find the history of those cars.

It would appear the price of fuel is going to go down and stay down for a while which will definitely slow the march of electric and make running a car such as the Porsche a nice alternative. My main concern as ever would be the price of putting something right If you do have a problem as I don’t think they are as bullet proof as people think and Obviously the tax is a pain.

The 07 seems a lot more reliable from my research but your right it's an older car and things will need replacing. I know what Fitz would say, buy a Tesla, I can't warm to the interior and the door handles bug the absolute **** out of me a good mate has one, I had a deposit on one but chickened out. Think I'll stay with petrol for the forseable future.

I see the 2005 Porsche has now gone POA.
Probably because the number of views jumped as we all had a look!

    Have you seen this one?

Nice reg plate too but not sure about the spoiler.

Those porsches have a long way to drop to get to recession price.
Coming out of last recession, 997 were asking 35k and thats alot of years back so i cant see an 07 being worth that now.

Do these cars actually drop during a recession? I never remember them being given away during previous recessions.

I don’t think those 911’s are going to plummet in value like more mainstream motors will and even though they will lose some more money I reckon it’s the maintenance that might be the main costs if something goes kaput.

Not sure about here but definitely in the U.K. in early 2007, a colleague sold a 55 plate Carrera S for £63k. The buyer held on to it until he got one of the first GT-Rs in early 2009 when he sold the 911 for £33k. I remember him joking in 2015 that he would have sold it for more at that stage. Here, I guess there is a much smaller cohort of owners and car Finance would not be as easily available so there is not so much prospect of a glut and a red to sell quickly.

Question, when people talk about ridiculous insurance quotes for those Porsche’s, how much is ridiculous? Currently working over seas and would easily be in a position to purchase, but the issue is I’ve lost my no claims bonus, just have ~5 years named driving now, 33 no claims or points, if one were to push for a quote what would a rough ballpark figure be? Not in a position to contact any companies at the moment!

Nobody here can accurately tell you as insurance quotes are tailored to the individual insuring the car, not just the car itself.

    Not really

Last time I remember very few being for sale and very few now as a lot less were bought in the last 10 years

I completely accept that, I guess I’m curious as to what kind of quotes other people have received

Put your details into an online quotation on insurers website. You'll find out soon enough. Use your previous address

I’ve tried for e92 335i’s and a multitude of higher performance cars to no avail, contact for quote. I’m aware how car insurance works, hence why I’m asking what people are paying.

I have six points on my licence and because of that some of those online quotation sites will just tell you to contact the insurer after you input your details.
    Just pick up the phone.

I can afford the car and the insurance but the price of the call from the Middle East is something I can’t stomach!

It's 32,900 on done deal for the 05 it's for sale since the end of last summer though.
On that black 06 the front lip I'd destroy it and the whale tale is a no no, maybe for a weekend car but this would be a daily.
Still never checked out the insurance, I'm guessing around the 7 or 800 mark. Well see, I'll check tomorrow.

A mate sold his 2019 mustang GT California today got 23k for it, had offers as low as 13k, said everyone is selling up a lot of guys lost their good jobs over there recently.
He offered it to me but it's not on the VRT website only the 2.3 eco boost and it's also a lefty, sweet car for buttons though.

If you're looking for a quotation on a higher powered car or one that's over ten years old, I find you won't get an online quote.

I'd be very happy with those kind of figures on an older porsche!

I would be the opposite with the rear spoiler. To me they look unfinished without them.

That 06 one is a beauty.

A quick look up north turns up some nice cars too. Sterling favourable now tooand I'm sure once lock down eases delivery would be straightforward.
Problem is the VRT calculator doesn't have any Porsche models on it so you are at their mercy.
I don't know if dealers can vrt a car for you or get a valuation prior to import. I don't think private individuals can.

As a daily driver, something more modern might have more appeal. Porsche Boxster would be nice.
I think this looks super but have no idea on VRT. If you could have it in for less than 40k all done you would have a result.

The boxster is lovely but I think you'd be disappointed with the power output compared it's bigger engined brothers. 265hp and 0-60 in 5.6 sec. Would certainly be more palatable on tax and insurance.

That previous 06 911 997 has been through some specialists, that would seem like a very good sign to me as some previous owners had done their research. Can't figure out through why people can't fit a number plate straight though????

That 2006 Carrera S in manual is a lovely machine, for me that would be close to peak 911 for me. PDK is a fantastic box but I'd like the manual as a weekend car.

They've be looking for 36% of the value and they'd probably be valuing it around 40ish somewhere between 14/15k vrt.
Cheapest targa I can find in the UK would be more than the Irish one and it's not as nice with a lot more more miles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,136 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Just got an insurance quote on the targa gave them a value of 49k for it, insurance goes up €80 until October, so annual premium would be around €650, I've ncb insured etc. I was expecting worse.

Axa, that's fully comp and also group n or something I think so I can use it for business use as well as private.
I've another 2 weeks of lockdown to figure out how to justify the tax, I'm already at the stage of it's only 1400 more than my current tax, need to find a saving somewhere...maybe he might take 38600 for it...

Where did you get figure of 38600?
Are they not looking for 50k for it?

Yea hoping to get a Covid discount of 10k and an extra 1400 discount for the first year's tax. It'll be all about cash flow once places open up, you never know.
