Just got an insurance quote on the targa gave them a value of 49k for it, insurance goes up €80 until October, so annual premium would be around €650, I've ncb insured etc. I was expecting worse.

If I could get a quote three time’s that I’d be tempted!

Yea hoping to get a Covid discount of 10k and an extra 1400 discount for the first year's tax. It'll be all about cash flow once places open up, you never know.

if it's still there at Christmas you might have a chance.
    low forties might be realistic?
    Who knows, it's crazy times.

.... New arrival is 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4 Coupe finished in Basalt Black Pearl (LC9Z) Exterior, complimented by Full Black Leather (AH) Interior, further enhanced by Black & Aluminium Trim. .....
The car was been very well cared for throughout its life and although it has 136k miles, a Full Engine Rebuild was carried out less than 19k miles ago by a Porsche Specialist in Dublin with all receipts present as well as the service history. It drives phenomenally well gripping the road with Bridgestone Potenza Tyres and keeps you very alert with the upgraded exhaust system roaring behind you.

Instagram add mentions rebuild was 15k.... Ouch if so

I wouldn't go for a 996 due to reliability, 2nd gen 997 seems to be the safe bet, that car is hedious, I'm not a fan of the fried eggs but I'd rather them than how that one looks.

I think with the rebuild already done you would probably be safe enough and I presume those ridiculous things on the front lift off ? I hope so!!

But I much prefer the 997 personally

Those covers are rubbish. 996 is a lot of bang for your buck and if priced appropriately then as they say "You only live once!" Lots of used engines for sale so buy, drive it like it was intended and if it goes pop deal with it. As with all these things you never hear of the 000's that never give a problem.

I do wonder about these cars though, I suspect some are consigned for sale and not actually owned by the garage. Its also hard to gauge discounts on them as many owners will have no finance on them and they can be a second car especially as they get older and get bought by enthusiasts. Then some might be desperate to liquidate and get cash for another toy so always worth a ballsy offer, whats the worst they can say only no.

Importing is a lottery unless you have been building up a file of adverts to appeal the VRT you will have to pay of you do import. Lots of high end cars are also advertised high to increase the VRT rebate on export so actual selling prices won't be a typical 500 - 1000 off like standard stuff.

Top pick would be a manual 997.2 S if you could find one.

Very nice subtle improvements over the pre lci. Would love to see what the interior upgrades are.

Is that a new colour or Mediterranean blue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,620 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Not sure on the colour name.

I don't think the interior is getting much of a make over except for maybe some switch gear as it got some very subtle changes late last year including the updated new virtual dash. I think the infotainment screen gets upgraded to 12.5" but not sure if that's going to be standard or an option over the current 8.5" screen. Good news is that like the new 3 Series, adaptive led headlights will now be standard on the 5 Series too. Laser headlights will still be on the options list afaik but not sure if adaptive cruise control or adaptive dampers are now standard either. I don't think exact specs have been released yet.

The front grill makes it look a lot more like a G11 7 series before they ruined it.

Don't think its med blue going by the configurator. It's a beautiful colour either way. Actually, the changes are not that subtle when compared together. Much sleeker design and the LCI looks almost next gen. No surprise it's based off the 3 series.

Nice enough refresh. Not too radically different from current model but enough changes.
Makes it look more like the current 3 series in the photos.
The "adaptive" lights on the 3 are nothing remarkable and not like what adaptive lights used to be on a BMW. they basically are cornering lights like you get on nearly every VAG product. To get proper adaptive with high beam assist, matrix beam etc. you have to spec the laser lights at 2k odd.
545e may be a sweet spot for performance here with low VRT and plug in grants if they remain.

The front end looks a lot fresher. Much needed, I thought the G30 looked old hat after a few months, just as Wailin's comparison above highlights.

Yeah a 545e would be a great throwback to the favourite car I ever had, an e39 530i msport 2003. Without the 1293 tax I was paying and 24 mpg mixed. Although I imagine I'll have a 530e long before I get to have a 545e.

100%. I also don't think the 20" m sport alloys did it any favours. Very conservative styling. The alloys on the lci above are far more stylish and sporty.

Stock Porsche 911 GT3 RS here is incredible. Naturally aspirated and revs to almost 9k rpm the sound when he gives it welly on the auto bahn is incredible
I've watched a few of his reviews and never seen him this gobsmacked. I'd actually prefer the GT3 RS over the quicker GT2 RS with that NA engine.

The 5 LCI looks really good alright, I wonder would they do the 545e in a touring?

I’m already thinking about what I would update the wife’s Tiguan with, would definitely consider a used LCI in a year or so. The 545e would be win win all round

Impress your neighbours! This ad is just trying way too hard. I wonder how good that 2yr warranty is. And yellow in colour? I must be colour blind.

I'm not showing the Mrs this ad from the same garage as she'll loose it when she sees how much her's could have depreciated

Where they getting them at that price, seems cheap.

Ohh and that m5 is silver lay off the top shelf.

    Impress your neighbours?!
Most people will think you’ve bought a tarted up Boy racer 520d.

The ads look like dealer is suffering with lock Down syndrome and spending too much time on the computer graphics to go with the ads.

A lot better headlight conversion on this 911, https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/1999-porsche-911-carrera-s/24711500

    Is this very overpriced?
What is it worth and any guess what it would trade back in for in two years?
Would it be optimistic to say it would be worth 40k in two years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,793 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Im sure they will be retailing for 40k in 2 years but trading back in would mean a stupid valuation id say. Considering we are seeing 10k between trade in and retail at bmw and then something like an M3 might sit in stock for a while, they would probably go even lower.
The 4 door M3 never looked special enough in my opinion.

    Look at the rear bumper!!
Also any of those 996 to 997 front end conversions that ive seen up close are not great. Panel gaps etc just not to the standard you would expect.
Considering that 996 are becoming valuable, you would have to wonder were they better left original.
