Lads have 600kg fresians/holstein around 26 months. What carcasse weight would these be at 30-32 months on good grass

I try to get them finished pre 30 months. That gives you 90 days. If hitting good grass now and s bit of compensatory growth they should hit 700kgs LW. At that they be 345-355DW. If you feed them 2-3kg of a 3way mix for last 6 weeks they shod kill in the 360+ bracket. You EOD feed the ration to get FS 4on them all. Try to flat price them into the factory

I am gauging on 49-50%KO fresh weight. TBH I be trying to kill ones that weight 30kg LW lighter at 330-340kgs DW. I slaughter from June onwards normally I might let it run a few week but I have 40+FR that have to be gone by mid August

A lad was looking at them to buy. The bunch weighed between 580 and 620 they said and they only wanted the 600 to 620 lads for 1020e a piece. I turned it down at the moment. Am I mad?

Depends on the price at the time. If you can flat price you should do it. but at present prices grading P+/O- killing 350kgs DW they average 1120befire deductions. Accrosss the they want to put on 100kgs to hit 350DW. They want to be 370DW to hit 1180at present prices

3.36 per kg for fresians.? Nearer 3.10 at present I'd say

At a 3.4 base grading P+/O- they would be averaging 3.2 at present. Would not be many around but I would expect that with the demand for mince processor's will be inclined to flat price them soon at or near the base price

    What’s good U’s making?

    3.4base+0.2 QA +0.12to U - +0.060if U=.
    U- 3.72
    U=3.78
    U+3.84

Problem is probably getting them slaughtered as plants do not want heavy cattle over 400kgs.

Be great if they were that price in august but I’d say there’s a better chance of winning the lotto
€3 will be a good price

You were offered a great price lad. More than factory price at present. Kill them fr today , 610kg kill out 50% for tank sake which wouldn’t do if only stores. That’s 305dw. 1020 plus 50 to kill , travel and time is 1070. 1100 to do 30 euro better than his offer. 1100 into 305 is 3.60 a kg in factory so yep, your stone mad!

Why would I kill them now when iv grass to bring them to 30 months mid August potentially weighing 690 700kg. Obviously we don't know where base price will be but that's anyone's guess.

I’m not saying to kill them now. I’m adding up the value off them today at beef price to what you have been offered. Showing you what price you would need to be better than what you have been offered

Cant see how it would cost 50e a head to kill, travel and time. If they can be brought into 350dw by 3.20 price per kg it's a hundred more a head he was offering and they can be got into bigger weight at above figures and I think base price won't slip much more

The problem is if degetme is replacing them to eat grass. At present it looks like his to lose the least. If he sells and buys replacements he not at.much if a game either. Sit on his bullocks get the same price or 100 more in August.

At present it's about not adding cost into the system. If going through a mart it will cost about 30/ head to sell and replace. Us it worth a gamble there might be 100/ head more in them and same costs to replace

Factory fee and haulage are gonna be at least 30 euro so it's getting very close to what he's offering you now today getting it today too not 5 months time

It's a case of sell now or finish them off grass. I wont be buying replacements. Milking cows myself and iv a lot of silage leftover and there on an out farm

He was only taking the heavier bullocks. On laws of average these are the ones most likely to grade O- maybe 1or 2 will grade O=. They will also be the heavier ones in August. These are the ones that will drag the average price up.
If one of them hits 360 at O= at present prices He hit nearly 1250euro.

A lot depends on dege's grass if they do a kg/day and he kills in mid August the 600-620 kg bullocks could average above 1200 euro. The lighter ones will be less likely to grade O and will be the ones dropping to 1100 euro.

Has anyone here ever killed good R grade dairy bred BB bullocks at 29 months off grass, if so what did they kill?

It's like how long is a piece of string. It really depends on there weight now. I have killed 3-4 over the years I say minimum 350 DW and they could hit 400 kgs. The ones I killed were 360/370DW. I killed one out of a shed 2-3 years ago 378kgs R+ at 25 months

thanks, I have a few there only 13 months old I think they are pushing 400kg they were out until Jan dis year, i used to buy good fr calves and kill at 30 months, but it got too hard to get good ones
I used to get the fr bullocks to 360 average, I would do them well from day 1

When your making money sell move on replace
Just keeping them because you have grass is bull
We have a fair idea what the price will be in August it usually drops 40 cent in this period anyway

I reckon they’ll be worth €1080 in august
If there fairly good your talking 360 kg dead
Let’s just you get a good price €3 a kg flat

    Dose that make any sense
Maybe you like the look of them around the place

You would nearly kill them off grass thus year I. November/December at 330-350 DW. Ither choice is house in early October finish out if the shed at Christmas. Let outside until November and house on silage only and finish off grass June 2021. I would expect them to kill 430 DW if held that long

used to fatten bulls during the winter, going to try and stay away from big meal bills in the future, do you think buying the BB as a calf and killing u30 months averaging a bit above 400kg would be a profitable system
