Still a lot of muppets driving unnecessarily
Like the clown driving from tipperary to limerick to buy a trampoline

He's probably going to dine out on that for life. Expect the movie rights are already optioned. I picture Pat Shortt or Brendan Gleeson as our hero.

And now you are risking spreading the disease 10 times as far.

You don't spread the disease while driving in your own car.

You spread the disease when you contact with other people.

jaysis if your car isnt taxed it is a really dumb time to be going out in it, they got what their stupidity deserved.

I hope the Gardai are looking extra close to even tax discs that are in date, I've had my last three of them stolen off my motorbike in Dublin city centre obviously by people who dont tax their cars.

So you are going to stay in your car the whole time?

According to the stats I've read traffic is down anything like 90%. So no, there aren't "lots of muppets" out driving. Multiples less than normal in fact.
And one silly little story about a trampoline put out for dramatic effect. Come on, have we lost all sense of perspective in this too?

They never actually said how far he drove did they? You can easily drive from Tipperary to Limerick in 2m not to mention 2km

How do you spread the virus on a solo cycle?

If it is so important that people stay close to home, why isn't there a 2km, or even a 5km limit for shopping in the regulations? Why does the limit only apply to exercise?

Because exercise can be done perfectly adequately within the limit given. Maybe not in our "ideal" way unfortunately e.g. going for a good long cycle / run, but adequately to maintain health. Many people don't live within 5km of a supermarket or pharmacy so such a limit isn't possible.

The risk of spread on a solo cycle 20km away I'm sure is far less (though not non-existent) than wandering around a supermarket 20km away, but we do need to have clear limits. We've already seen people struggling to follow the instructions we've been given, imagine if there were multiple exceptions too!

    Why be stubborn about this?

Minimal leaving home and minimum distance when you have to is about the person travelling not bringing infection to another area or getting it and bringing back home to their area.

There’s still a few , and there always is , but I live right at a beach in Wexford surrounded by holiday homes and caravan parks and people did not come or try to come to either this weekend , given the great weather the beach would be busy , all there was, was a few locals like me.

The lockdown is being respected by an awful lot of people , well done

( mind u the Gardaí have surrounded the place !! )

Strange that he didn't think of prosecuting you for having the phone in your hand while driving (and yes, stopped in traffic is 'while driving').

How exactly does the length of the journey contribute to risk of infection?

If I drive 1km to a fishmonger or 20km to a fishmonger, what difference arises in the risk of infection?

There's a big flaw in your argument. Anyone wanting to visit their holiday home by the sea could simply say they are going there to buy fish. I even hinted at it a page or two back.

Just stay at home and only take essential journeys like we are all being asked to, please.

90% may be true on major routes, plenty of it going on at a local level
I live in a tourist town and there has been plenty tourists rock up since friday to caravan parks and the local beaches etc from elsewhere even after been told not to, I would consider these muppets and driving needlessly
Some people unable to follow simple guidelines as always

Can you not understand that they're trying to confine and establish where the hotspots may be!

What on Earth is your problem with doing your bit for the good of society?

Bare in mind that trolls don’t respect pandemics or lockdowns and still want to get their rocks off by winding people up.

Some very stupid comments here today.
People can’t do what the experts want them to do to stop the spread. They know best.

Is it really? Have any of the public health experts actually said this? For example, have any of them said; "When shopping, you should shop locally"? This isn't part of the current regulations or the current guidance.

The flaw isn't in my argument. The flaw is in the regulations, which at present, allow people to travel for essential shopping with no reference to distance or time or locality.

It's called common sense, and is why the lad on his way to howth was turned back. Do you realise it's people like you looking for loopholes is the reason there are checkpoints everywhere?

So there is definitely no public health advice telling people to stay local then?

My Tesco , Aldi , Dunne’s and Lidl are 9 km away , my local shop has a few basics , etc, there is no significant choice of vegetables and very limited meat and not a chance of fish

You simply can’t force people to eat sh1t food

Equally the COVID numbers don’t justify the current lockdown , I supported the initial restrictions , I don’t support the current ones , because we didn’t wait to see the actual numbers ( there’s a three week lag )

    100% agree.

I had an issue with a particular garda and made a complaint to local supt who took the complaint seriously.

This little pr%:k was at a checkpoint yesterday and I happened to go through it. He decided to ask a few too many questions until I asked if I should ring the supt to get my passage approved and took my phone out to make the call. (he wasn't to know I didn't have the number)

The look on his face was priceless. Pr%+k.

Are you suggesting that you know The superintendent? And that somehow makes you exempt?
I think you will find there was a massive scandal, not so long ago, where superintendents where looking after their friends......
    Caused a lot of trouble......

Same. A few friendly polite questions. Show them a work letter I have every time and it’s fine. But I wouldn’t fancy the grief of non essential journeys. Not worth it in my opinion.
M9 motorway is very heavily policed. Large Diversion off at J5 for checkpoint. Wonder what would happen if you were off down to the holiday home in Wexford or Waterford with the car packed up??? Will they force you to turn around??

Yers, saw them doing it in Portlaoise last Thursday. All traffic was diverted up the slip road at Midway for a checkpoint and they had a bike there to guide people back around if they 'failed' the checkpoint. A car a few in front of me was brought around and sent back up the motorway. Couldn't see how many were in the car though from where I was.

I would imagine that most sensible people don't need that advice.

Wonder what would happen if you say complied with the instructions, turned around then came off the motorway again and proceeded to make your way via some back roads? Such is the level of checkpoints I’ve seen it’s hugely likely they’d be stopped again, wonder would there be a tougher consequences other than turn them around again?
