Why does somebody cycling a bike rattle you so much?

They shouldn’t be out for their long leisure cycles under the current conditions. Why do you think everyone should stick to the rules except them?

What distance have they been cycling? Was there many of them in the group?

7 in the group I seen Friday. They had cycled 9.3km between the two times I seen them according to a measurement on Google Maps, which means bare minimum 9.3.
That’s only one example. Plenty of pairs out too, who may or may not live together but nobody is checking.

I gotta be honest here and say I don’t believe you
    With regards the group
Where did this happen? And when? Did you report it?
    Were they wearing club colors?
7 suggests it’s a club spin and cycling clubs have suspended activities for the time being.

With regards the people cycling in pairs, do you think they should be stopped and questioned? If so should pairs of people out walking be stopped and questioned as well?

Do you just really hate cyclists?

Cyclists are definitely showing how low they really are out there these days, though not surprising from a group that think rules don’t apply to them the rest of the time either. They’re easily up there with the weekend holidaymakers in all this but they seem to be getting a free pass from the Gardai.

Agreed, nearly got mowed down several times while walking in my local park by them whizzing past. Would it kill them to ring their bell!!

Very easy to cycle 10 km in an 4 km diameter.

I walk locally and regularly “mention” this to many cyclists that go past. I’ve young kids that are unpredictable and don’t always stay on one side.

But this isn’t a problem of cyclists.
This is a problem of ignorance Among Irish people.

It’s the same attitude that has public places destroyed in dog poo.
And public places ruined in litter.

    People are ignorant.

So you won’t believe anything that doesn’t suit you?

Pairs of cyclists should be stopped and asked if they live under the same roof and how close their home is. The same as walkers.

Who said anything about diameter? They were cycling on a road and were nearly 10km further down that road on my way back.

With regards the cycling group of 7 that I’m skeptical about.
    Where did it happen?
Were they in a club - you would know by their colors.
    What time did it happen?

They were in helmets and spandex, I know nothing about club colours. But you don’t want to believe that anyway because it doesn’t suit you to hear about precious cyclists being in the wrong. You all think you’re untouchable.

Were some or all of them wearing the same jerseys?

Where and when did it happen?

    :D interrogation.

Around 2 or 3pm Friday on the road that runs between Naul and Margaret’s.

    Untouchable.

No, there is a simple basis for it.
Cycling clubs are typical run by responsible and intelligent people and I would be very surprised if any clubs in the country are having club spins, hence asking if they were a part of a club because something can be done about that. So I very much doubt that these cyclists are part of a club, but if they were wearing club jerseys then it’s easy to do something about it.

The problem of cyclists ignorance - which exists even though you incorrectly think I defend then, is that the ignorance of a few from the noncycling population is just as bad if not worse.

Your post started by slating EVERY cyclist, making out they are ALL the same and
ALL think they are above the rules of the road and the current restrictions. For the time of year and type of weather the roads are very quiet cycling wise., Cycling clubs are not holding spins, Sportives are cancelled. Cyclingireland have put out statements on the matter.

Is there always a SMALL minority that won’t obey the regulations? Sure there is and that minority exists in all elements - car drivers speeding, people having parties in current times, cyclists out in groups.

What your posts don’t acknowledge, and they should is that not every cyclist is a problem.

I live in that general area and it's big cycling country. So, I'd normally see lots of groups out cycling, but I haven't seen one in weeks. You see the odd individual and they seem to be local obeying the 2km thing. Actually, you do see the odd group, but they are obviously families. Maybe, stop and take a photo next time you see them.

Huge difference. But let’s just take it at a very simple level. What happens if you break down?

While I agree with the sentiment that traveling to Howth for a bit of fish is the height of selfish knobheadery, that's probably a poor example of why really. The same would happen. You'd have to get recovery out.

Unless you think someone could push their car home because they are only 2km from home...

There was a Gatso van in the village, and about 20 yards away there was a Garda car with flashing lights. You could see that anyone approaching the Garda car would see the flashing lights but not the Gatso van, so they were warning those approaching that it was there. I was walking the dog at the time and said to them jokingly, 'You are doing that lad out of business' they just laughed it off.
    Cheers.
    Tom.

The longer drive increases the chance of having an accident too.

Cycling would be a good alternative to avoid an accident so.

I live on a popular cycling route and there’s been no shortage of cyclists in full gear passing our gate over the last 2 weeks.

I have noticed the number dwindling though, particularly in the last few days.

Went out for a short cycle myself last night and the Gardai had a checkpoint stopping both cars and bikes so I expect the numbers will reduce even further now.

Avoid one yourself but cause more. That wouldn’t really help either.

Everyone should just be obeying the rules and using cop-on.

Any midlife male in spandex is a lost cause frankly.

It's not an everyday occurence by any stretch, and most Gardai are anywhere between OK and decent.. but you will get the ones who need a reminder that they (as the commisioner said himself recently) are there to serve the peoople.

One of the more recent ones involved an unmarked i40 on the way to Dublin one morning who was tailgating and intimidating drivers out of his way in busy morning traffic at motorway speeds.

Managed to track the car through Dublin Castle back to the station it was assigned to and spoke to the Sargeant who in fairness was disgusted and confirmed there was certainly no reason for it from his perspective. End result was the guy was made pull in and apologise.

You probably won't believe that of course, but I for one was very impressed with the response in that case.

Most here, this is Boards after all, won't see fault in any Garda action. It's very clear from the figures that the checkpoints are about tax, nct etc. The Gardai have been given a blanket opportunity to stop anyone they choose for any reason they choose. Just as with the UK there will be videos of Gardai going too far. The Commissioner comes from an RUC background where checkpoints were the norm.

Meanwhile the gatherings of young people, parties etc appear to continue as the Gardai always take the easy option & target drivers. This was the case before the shutdown when, for example, it was virtually impossible to get a Garda to deal with rural crime.

Hopefully we will see accurate figures, unlike the breathalyser ones, that show how the powers were used. Gardai must be accountable & they can't all be perfect. These powers impose a high level of personal Garda discretion which is always open to abuse.

Had a look at the garda twitter feed yesterday, it's seems they are finding alot more than stray shoppers at the moment, Dodgy tax, insurance discs, NCT's well expired, one car last taxed 5600 days ago, cocaine, illegal cigarettes, even unlicensed guns in clare, I doubt social distancing was used in detecting any of these offences but hard to argue the need for such checkpoints

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Then they should of used this as the reason for asking for blanket checkpoints. If you stop every car, of course you will uncover additional crime but we don't or haven't policed like this before.
