Maybe I'm misreading your statement. I assumed you were talking about releasing the information about the virus to the world which happened on 20th Jan. It seems you were talking about clearing the name of Li.

Indeed that happened in 20th March, but considering the circumstances(international crisis) it's somewhat understandable.

20 January is nearly 2 months since the first case recorded in Wuhan.

5M Wuhan residents already left the city before the lockdown on 23 January, due to Chinese new year migration.

So how come when Trump banned all flights from China on February 2nd he was one of the first countries to do it? (Apart from Taiwan). Then he was called racist etc.. for doing so.

When did Ireland ban flights from China?

Still not even sure they have stopped flights from Italy or Spain

What direct flights have there been from China to Ireland since this all kicked off?

Maybe its just been flights bringing PPE, but the point remains China enforced lockdown measures that we did not. To now be accusing them of lying when they clearly took stronger measures than us is senseless.

*By us I mean the west/europe.

I’ve no comment on wether China is lying or not, but they’re two very different issues that you’re conflating. They could have taken strong measures and still be lying, or not lying.

Ireland didn’t need to stop flights to China, because there were none. And the ones we have now are overwhelmingly to our advantage.

I returned on the 23rd of January and my return flight was on the 20th February. I could have gone back on it. I know that Turkish Airlines were still operating previously booked flights until the start of March (I rebooked my flights to the 4th and I could have gone then), just not taking new flight bookings.

That's Dublin - Istanbul - Xi'an/Shanghai/Beijing. A variety of other airlines were still doing similar flights but had just decreased the number of flights going. Aerlingus matched with KLM were doing reduced flights at that time too, although they were starting to wind down by the time of Trumps announcement. Again, previously booked tickets as opposed to new tickets, although I know from European friends who did return to/from China, that there were some limited options.

What would you think it credible and why? Do you base it on what you want them to have to make you feel better about the mess europe has made of it or do you look at the asian region?

Chinese numbers don't match any country in the world, they don't even match their own figures since they changed how they calculate and define the figures. So that their "curve" actually isn't using the same metric over time.

Its also human nature, leopard and their spots. They are still restricting and suppressing lots of information. Its a defining characteristic of the regime. Their numbers aren't credible on anything they report on, going back decades. So the odds that they aren't doing this with the current crisis are just not credible.

Look at the quality of the medical supplies they have exported. If we find some of it substandard, ("30 per cent accuracy rate reported in some cases") is the same standard they've been using in China.

The alternative view you're suggesting is that the virus reporting is the exception to this suppression, and they are reporting it accurately. That's not impossible. But its extremely unlikely.

As for Europe they have their own problems. Different approaches and different ways of reporting detection. Which makes it difficult to compare. Even in Ireland we have a recent history of misrepresenting stats, on crime, health, housing and a raft of poor regulation across housing and banking scandals etc. Glass houses all round.

China has realized one thing. If everywhere is shutdown and broke. They won't be buying so much stuff from China. So China has to come out of lock down, to persuade the world to do the same.

China will be broke until they pay much deserved compensation to each country affected by this

and also eradicate wet markets which facilitate zoonotic viruses.

Then the world can get back to normal pending monthly reviews by an international body.

Are you under 12 perhaps? How do you think A) China will be broke? and B) who do they have to pay compensation? C) name a precedent for compensation in the past including recent wars etc..

I would say the Politburo are shítting bricks at your demands. I would put them in writing, here is the address, good luck.

His Excellency the President of China
    Mr Xi Jinping
    The Communist Party of China.
    Zhongnanhai
174 Chang'an Avenue, Xicheng District, Beijing
    The Peoples Republic of China.

Any issues give me a shout I will give him a ring for you. The phucker can be tardy enough getting back to people sometimes.

It is not 1980, the West can't and won't be making anyone pay. We need to get the basics right by the look of it.

a lawyers from many countries are taking legal action against China and its president, so I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the idea of maki g China pay, there will be a lot of angry countries when dis is all over

China needs to get the basics right

It appears they did and what they learned from previous outbreaks in the last 2 decades helped them tremendously in this crisis. If only we had also learned those lessons.

Multi nation response is required. Strong solidarity until China gets the message.

So - the question arises - how much does China owe Ireland?

Earlier in the thread the figure of 150-200 billion was suggested to cover us for the time being. That figure could rise.

Putting myself in the position of a Chinese finance ministry functionary I shudder to think how much China will owe the USA after this disaster

Maybe if you wrote to Pooh Bear he might sort them out for you? I reckon the more people that write to his excellency the better?

I reckon the Politburo would fold at the first sign of a solicitors letter through the letter box.

    Stand by.

You are just trolling now for a reaction. You can't possibly be that stupid to even think this is a serious thing. If you do, seek help.

There will be no multi nation response, in fact solidarity is gone out the window. The EU has so many fingers in the dike now that it has no fingers left...and a few more leaks has sprung.

Probaably a lot less then the HIV blood they sold into China in the 80s. Pure incompetence that one, flogged it like snickers bars around the world and didn't know what thye were looking at.

the ****ing basics about meat markets

The scientific literature has been warning about an outbreak like this for a long time. If it didn't come from the meat markets of China they will come from somewhere else. We need to be prepared and not look for reparations from what is essentially a random mutation.

I checked online there, AN POST have stopped delivering mail to China due to the Coronavirus update.
    https://www.anpost.com/Post-Parcels/Sending/Calculate-Postage

"Please note, due to international airlines suspending services to China, all mail services have been suspended to China as a result of the Coronavirus with immediate effect. "

You will have to root out his excellency's e-mail. Google it. Or try Fed Ex.

I wouldn't hang around either, the longer you leave these things the more time it takes to get a resolution. Don't faff around, just get on it.

We NEED reparations to rebuild our society and economies.

Surely you admit the wet markets are almost a perfect breeding ground “Petri dish” for zoonotic viruses?
