I am a huge GAA fan but I would have to have a gun pointed at me to listen to all of that! How much analysis of GAA affairs can there be?! As a matter of interest, what attracts you to all that?

I head into All Ireland preview nights in the city the weekend of finals also. Have had a good time with John Mullane before the hurling finals couple times.

I went to the Olympia before Dubs and Mayo few years back to here David Brady ridiculous true story of thinking his car was robbed and getting a garda escort around the city only to realise he had forgot where he really parked it.

Love the build up to the All Ireland finals.

I think I’d be taken to hospital after overdosing on bull**** if I listened to the amount of spoof you’d hear on all those GAA pods.

My father reckons that as you get older your interest in sport wanes. Definitely true for me - still watch the matches but not bothered about people dissecting and analysing them ad nauseam anymore. Colm Parkinson's podcast is good but even that is a bridge too far for me most weeks.

My fathers interest in sport never waned. I only follow GAA, football and snooker. Bit of golf for the majors.

I wouldn't be one to sit and watch football every night. I'd just as easily head out for a walk and listen to a podcast than sit in and watch a Champ League game, Championship or even many Prem Lgue games. Far too much football on tv. If i watch one or two games a week its enough for me. I'd rather head up to watch Rovers than sit in.

The GAA is a pretty short season. Championship for three months really. League another three. So half the year. I like it so enjoy going to matches, reading about it and listening about it.

As i said everyones different. What works for you wont work for everyone. Try and do what feels good for you.

When you’re young you can dream of Ireland winning a World Cup etc. As you get to your 20s, you realize this will never happen. There are limits That experience brings.

When you're young you dream of the Dubs doing 5 in a row. As you get older you realise dreams do indeed come true sometimes.

That's good that you'll remember Jim forever. Every Dub will too.

If you asked 100 GAA fans for the most notable Jim/Jimmy in GAA, I reckon you'd probably have Jimmy Barry Murphy, Jim MCGuinness mentioned more times than Jim Gavin.

Who knows? If you asked 100 Dubs the same question i reckon 100 would say Jim (not Jimmy) Gavin.

Anyway do you listen to any of the GAA podcasts i posted?

Listen to the GAA hour and Second Captains frequently but not every episode. Do hear a lot of the OTB GAA content and generally enjoy it.
Love RTE sunday sport as well, as much for nostalgia reasons as anything else. (would love to be looking forward to Micheal O'Mhuircheartaigh commentating on a top championship match this weekend!!)

But, I am not a dedicated GAA fan to the extent you seem to be. An interesting conversation relating to any sport or athletes would appeal to me more than a run of the mill conversation on a GAA topic. This is why I think Joe Molloy is very good at what is his strongest skill set, interviewing people in extended 1 to 1 interviews.

I used to enjoy reading some GAA journalists more than listening to them for some reason.

    Not unexpected.

They're probably happy to have had that announced when they look around at what has happened lots in the print media industry.

Gavin for Jim, Keaveney for Jimmy.

They should give Gilroy and McCormack permanent wage cuts and get rid of the dead wood and give some new faces a chance.

I'm sure Denis O'Brien has read this and is taking action as we speak.

I can only hope, Richie can make his music playlists full time or apply for a job with 2XM. Hed be far better suited to that.

So I have this straight - I should be made unemployed, during a global pandemic and financial meltdown - just because I’m not to your specific liking?

Am I missing part of the grand plan here, or was that it? Just so I can tell the family.

Have you read his post correctly - he said permanent pay cuts for you and Gilroy not being made unemployed. How did you miss that ?

Who tipped you off about that post Richie?

Was it dancinpants or Tell Me How?

And do you prefer the Murder Capital or Fontaines DC?

Well, you did say get rid of the "dead wood". While it wasn't directed at Richie McCormack, you are calling for some people to be laid off and you are calling on people to get pay cuts. The only reason for that seems to be you personally dislike them. The whole post was in very bad taste, imo.

Dead wood doesn’t necessarily mean lay people off but possibly change their positions in the company.

I admit that in the current climate that the post was in bad taste and I’d like to apologise for it, it was a rash thought and I should’ve thought it through better before posting.

As an aside I don't think you need to use the word global before pandemic.

Pan means all and demic is derived from the latin Demos for people.

It means all people. The global part is implied.

Fair enough. I think we all post things that we later wish we hadn't.

I'm done with posting about OTB here. This thread has gotten a bit weird lately and it's just a shame that honest, fair debate about the show is all but impossible as so many people seem to have their own agendas. Enjoy!

Just heard one of the lads on the sports news saying that ITV are going to show a virtual Grand National whenever the race was meant to be on. And Tiger Roll will be part of the virtual field.
