Similarly, if he had not been there, I think he would have enforced that fact at this point. Again, maybe he has, I haven't seen it.

Brolly has been asked a number of times on twitter directly if he was in Cheltenham or not and has failed to answer the question.

On another topic there was a very good interview with Tom Parsons on the show last night.

Amateur GAA players who get injured often get forgotten (by the armchair experts who can no longer slate them). Indeed the last inter county game I attended I was sitting next to a man who was telling everybody within earshot that Parsons was finished and it was embarrassing to see him on the pitch.

Parsons was off work for 7 months following his injury. He was told he might never again be able to even jog.

Was a great insight into the sacrifices these guys make - when it would have been so easy for this man to just hang up the boots and call it a day.

There was an article in ‘The Star’ about Cheltenham 2020 by David Coughlan which mentions Brolly “joining the crowds”.

Now, I’ve only seen a picture of this article but I can’t imagine someone going to such “lengths” to discredit the man.

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be” - A. Dumbledore

“It is not blood that makes you Irish but a willingness to be part of the Irish nation” - Thomas Davis

The off the ball lads show just throw the towel in at this stage. Far to many hours to try to fill with nostalgia and talking ****e.

The overall hours should be at least halved. Play some music or something instead.

The probably have plenty metrics on which to base their judgment, podcast downloads, online views etc. See Parkinson is trying hard to keep people engaged in a similar fashion.
Easy decision to make when it is a choice between some money and no money.

To be honest I can’t see a better time to push out podcast material even if it is just nostalgia stuff. Lots of people have little to be doing and in my opinion a podcast is great at filling the gaps in the day on a walk or making food. Then again I’ve a lot of spare time then most because I don’t have kids! Really enjoyed the piece on France ‘98 yesterday.

I think they are doing a good job in the circumstances and I am really appreciative of the diversion their content is providing. Fell asleep to the interview with Matt Holland last night and really enjoyed it.

It's funny, the relentlessness of the live sport schedule doesn't allow for much reflection but I actually enjoy the nostalgia and in depth stuff.

Hats off to them. I’ve been super duper critical of them since they went woke in about 2015/2016 but they have done a good job of keeping the show on the road so to speak. There’s still a lot of current affairs in there but how can you escape this Covid issue right now, particularly with no sport to speak of. Having said that, it’s not all happy clappy. The first 35 mins, 20 secs of yesterday’s paper review was absolute garbage, mostly due to the nonsensical rambling of Kieran Shannon. I’ll admit I didn’t listen to that full 35 mins because it was tough going and had to be wound forward for my own sanity. But well done overall OTB.

I too have been critical of them in the recent past, but since this started I've subscribed to a couple of their podcasts, and am very grateful to have them right now.

Nice Ken Doherty piece yesterday. An hour long walk down memory lane with the Darling of Dublin. I enjoyed that.

Was talking to my mam about that yesterday. We both thought he was a disgrace and should have been left nowhere near a mic.

Hmmm, wouldn’t of thought radio Listenerships would have been the worst affected or really that badly affected at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,957 ✭✭✭Dots1982

Heard Game on do an interview with Gary Lineker there. Jesus it really is a shocking show. The gob****e (Alan Cawley?) asking most of the questions dived in with asking him about Jack Grealish. Like why the fcuk would you ask him about that as the first question?

Also the format is so weird, they had three interviewers. Complete overkill. Who the fcuk is producing that crap?

Ad revenue is through the floor at this point I suspect.

The format is very poor. As someone said here before, it's like badly produced student radio. They need to go back to established broadcasters as anchors of the show.

Wasnt Alan Cawley. It was Donncha Callaghan. He's the mentality of a 10 year old.

It wasn’t donnacha Callaghan anyway. He asked other questions and his accent is completely different.

Can only have been either Donnacha or Ruby Walsh if it was a male interviewer. Both now well established on the RTE gravy train post retirement. A truly awful programme.

I guess it was ruby Walsh then. Didn’t think it sounded like him but don’t know.

It was the 3 amigos as it always is. Maria Crowe, Ruby and Callaghan. I listened to the clip with Lineker as i like Lineker. That Callaghan is some amadan. A complete man child.

Show is completely out of place on a 2FM daytime schedule. Out of place anywhere really, should be consigned to the bin.

When sport is in full flow i listen to the GAA and football interviews on it. Have it on Spotify so its easy avoid all the crap on each daily show that you've no interest in. Its more for the guests than the hosts. Why do they need 3 hosts anyway? Id get rid of Callaghan straight away. As well as being a complete tool he hasn't a clue about sport bar rugby. The show lasts two hours. I usually listen to 10 minutes when there's sport on. I only tuned in the other day to here what Lineker had to stay. Overall though its very poor fare.

It's one thing getting annoyed at negativity about OTB on the OTB thread but it's not any more fun watching another show being ripped to shreds on this thread as well.

What sports related audio outputs do people enjoy?

I like a lot OTB produce and also enjoy Second Captains from time to time. Also listen to Colm Parkinson but think he would be better as a strong co-host.
I listen to Bill Burr's podcast a lot and he frequently touches on sport and it can be very entertaining. One thing that is interesting about his podcasts in relation to sport is that on Thursdays he releases a throwback podcast from 8 years previously and listening to these, particularly during the NFL season, it's funny to see that his complaints sound pretty much exactly the same, except 8 years apart. Remarking how the game is way more offensive focused than it used to be, how mediocre players celebrate like MVP's and how the referee's haven't a clue.

For GAA i listen to as much as i can really. Here's some

    1 The GAA Hour
2 The Irish Indo Throw In with Tomas O Se, John Mullane and Brendan Cummins
3 Irish Examiner GAA with Anthony Daly and Ger Cunningham
4 Second Captains GAA with likes of M Duignan
5 RTE GAA Podcast, RTE Sunday Sport great for GAA
5 OTB GAA with Tommy Walsh
6 Irish Times GAA with Malachy Clerkin
7 Shane Stapletons Our Game on Youtube, probably the best of all at this stage. Incredible amount of content and coverage

Thats where i get most of my GAA coverage. Plenty to go around. The GAA Hour and Shane Stapleton still putting a lot out there and hats off to them.

    For football i listen to
1 Guardian Football Weekly; the best
    2 Football Social Daily
3 Totally Football with James Richardson
4 Johny Ward and Dan McDonnell LOI Weekly (for Irish football club fans of which i am one)
    5 Second Captains Ken Early
    6 OTB Football Show
7 Ive listened to John Giles weekly football sermon on Newstalk since the start. Still one of the best football brains out there
8 The Stand with Dunphy and Giles, Brady and Hamann.

    Plenty to go around.

I am a huge GAA fan but I would have to have a gun pointed at me to listen to all of that! How much analysis of GAA affairs can there be?! As a matter of interest, what attracts you to all that?

I guess we're all different. I'll listen to as much as i can to be honest. Love heading off for a long walk with a good GAA or football chat to listen to.

I head into All Ireland preview nights in the city the weekend of finals also. Have had a good time with John Mullane in Flannerys before the hurling finals couple times.

I went to the Olympia before Dubs and Mayo few years back to here David Brady ridiculous true story of thinking his car was robbed and getting a garda escort around the city only to realise he had forgot where he really parked it.

Love the build up to the All Ireland finals.
