    Go to testing

As of 23 March, 17,992 tests had been carried out.[71]

at 2K testing a day that would be around 28K tests done now

It's so obvious that masks are a plus a positive add-on. And what can multiply this PLUS is if everyone wears a mask...

The reason governments in Europe have been urging against it is because they fear lack of supply for medical staff.

Proper masks are obviously beneficial to the public.

Where are people getting their masks from? Haven't been able to find any. Or hand sanitiser. Since the start of all of this.

Does anyone have an up to date number of test carried out and processed in Ireland?

    They publish them weekly:
    upto 3/3: 461
    10/3: 1924 (average 209/day)
    17/3: 6636 (average 671/day)
    24/3: 17992 (average 1622/day)

Only a complete holocaust denier could still follow the idea that masks don't help.
Masks are in short supply and are needed by the front line staff.
This has always been the reason why we are told that they are not necessary.

1.4 Billion Chinese are not wrong.
Japan,Korea, Belgium, Spain, China look at the footage - Are they all idiots?

Did they not hear the advise of the HSE?

"We are not, at this moment, recommending the wearing of masks, as ther is no evidence to suggest that they materially affect the transmission of this virus"

"We are in critical need of PPE equipment for our front line staff, Masks, Gowns ,Gloves "

I was in SE Asia (mostly Vietnam) for most of Jan/Feb this year. On face masks- the government send you text messages (easily google translated) and while they insisted everyone dealing with the public wears them they warn to the general population/visitors that it's best to wear them but don't get complacent.
The worry is (to that government) is that face masks lead to complacency and that same message was relayed to me by many people I met. They stop the spread but only if vigilance to general/hand hygiene is adhered to.

I left that part of the world a few weeks ago with "complacency will kill you" still ringing in my ears.

A total of 11 million masks, one million face shields and one million goggles for workers are on order.

    https://www.thejournal.ie/hse-coronavirus-tests-5054225-Mar2020/

this brings up an intresting questions what are they going to use 11 million mask for, can't be for the HSE can it?
send them out to every house in Ireland?

Very very low rate of testing. If we assume they started testing around the 28 of Feb or before . About 700 per day, pretty shocking really.

Is the delay with taking the samples or actual analysis of the samples that is the delay?

Ireland rate of testing is not very low compared to the rest of the EU

    some comparison
France has 2314 deaths but only recorded 37,575 cases
France has 64 times as many deaths but only 15 times as many cases as Ireland, if Frances confirmed cases matched Ireland with death rate they would have 148K cases

Netherlands and Belgium are other interesting comparison
both have about 9-10K cases but Netherlands have twice as many deaths
and the the Netherlands has 4 times as many deaths as S.Korea if there cases matched SK they should have 40K cases

i have no idea. The government said last week they were testing 2000 per day and ramping up to 5000 if I remember correctly but they are at about 700 per day average it seems.

I don't believe they did it to hide anything, but too many people who just had a cough or sore throat were being booked in by GP
to get a test now you have to have some symptoms, fever being a large part as well as other. this is better as you are more chance to find the people who have covid19 and not have the system blocked up by 1,000's who just are not feeling 100%

Real reason is lack of reagent needed for the kits hence they need to reserve what they have for most likely cases......but if you want another reason which played into this......Don’t forget the €30 fee HSE agreed with Doctors for Doctor consult over the phone it seems the HSE are only paying it for referred cases.
I’m sure we will soon hear some dissenting voices from Doctors about fielding all these calls for nothing

One thing that is puzzling me is how are you meant to know if you have been in contact with a confirmed case

Accepted but the complacency argument is a bit lame. "Don't wear a mask cos you might think it protects you cos it doesn't that much. Maybe you are so stupid you won't wash your hands"

Nonsense - Masks are in Short Supply

There is lots of recipes online for hand sanitizer spray online, pick one that suits, buying ingredients etc... Also you should be able to find basic masks in any diy hardware or even pound shop..
Good luck hope you find some.. tight cotton neck scarves seem pretty popular also.

That wasn't my point. But I don't expect us to keep many of the units made. We will keep some. People in Galway are not going to risk getting coronavirus so the product they make bypasses their granny and goes to trump. If that happens I expect they'll down tools and go home.

Its been posted here that half of the world supply of ventilators are made by Medtronic in Galway and they annoucned that they're increassing production by 50%. They never said that any of them are available to the HSE so next week we're going to see photos of military planes landing in Shannon and Knock picking them up

I think we need to have some trust. The HSE changed their testing criteria because they could cope with the number of people waiting on test and the positive results they were getting back were less than 10% so they changed the criteria so that they would hopefully get more positive cases from the tests that they were doing.

Never doubt the HSEs ability and engage in a cover up, it is literally their go-to position whenever the sh1t hits the fan. Cervical Check was only the most recent cover up in a long, long line of cover ups. Whats worse is that they spend millions in taxpayers money through the courts in an attempt to cover up the cover up.

Was that taken before or after the lockdown of citizens currently living in Ireland that was announced yesterday (excluding the 5k plus people arriving in the airports per day) ?
