Family member died overnight. Had been having breathing difficulties. Will be waiting a few days for results. Had pre-existing conditions. It's getting real, I won't be seeing a lot of people for a decent amount of time now.

    Very sorry for your loss.

How will it be over though? This virus doesn't just disappear.

Once restrictions are eased, do you think the virus will complement us on our measures and be on its way?

We have only two ways out of this , actually only one , herd immunity , one way or another this virus must run its course, actually preventing its spread is solelyto prevent medical resource overruns , nothing more . It’s actually not doing the greater % of the population any good to not actually get the virus

Mention on Newstalk about those people with antibodies being allowed to circulate ( in the longer term ) , imagine a race of supper humans , well all be running around trying to contract it not avoid it !

Doing the same. Go go go.

And bring your non symptomatic virus with you to a place with little hospital care especially ICU.

But go anyway. Is that more than 2k from your home?

Do you realise that these restrictions potentially go on for at least 18 months?

This will not end in weeks. These restrictions are for months.

There is no "normal" any more. We may possibly have a vaccine. Or we have to live with this thing forever.

We can't all hide inside our houses for the rest of our lives. It won't be long before people start saying "screw it" and take their chances.

The sooner the better. This totalitarian state is not acceptable and will achieve precisely zero.

Precisely what I believe too. The current economic downturn will be exacerbated by the 2008 hangover. A reset will be needed one day.

Ordinary people will not foot the bill for this. Not another decade of austerity and services stripped bare. The wealthy elites will pay for this, anything else will result in revolution.

And then a second wave. And another after that. We need a credible description from the government of what their exit strategy is here, or we'll be at this for years. Sweden and the Netherlands have gone down a very different route - I'm not saying it's right, but there are options other than locking us all inside for the next few years.

I've been saying it the last while...

Implement more restrictive measures when ICU capacity is being threatened. They are clearly worried by the increase in the last few days, which, if it continues as such will saturate the capacity quite quickly. Given another couple of weeks, when we know exactly where we stand with transmission rates, the restrictions may be lifted. Expect them to be imposed again if rates or ICU capacity is at a dangerous level in the future.

My dad in his late 70s is making excuses just to go out. The bank. The mechanic. The farmers market. Hopefully he gets it now.

My father is the same age, did the same thing. I took his car keys off him. I hope he doesn't get it.

I don’t know what I’m more incredulous of, your level of absolute tone deafness or the fact that you clearly have an ego the size of the sun.

So much mere personal abuse from you and others here.

But if you want to try again and contradict my point, I'll be staying tuned.

With freedom comes the duty of and weight of responsibility, something that was ignored this night last week.

These are temporary restrictions in face of an extraordinary peril to the lives of so many of our fellow citizens. I fully support them having seen the childish behavior of some in this country in the last week.

Excellent post, in this modern era of constant clamouring for rights many have abandoned the idea of responsibility. Rights are earned by behaving responsibly, we have forgotten that

What do you mean by a reset, mass defaults?

I guess it could take different shapes and mass defaults is a possibility (or rather than default, the value of the currency debts are labelled in could be severely eroded). And I think eventually this will lead to a loss of trust in fiat currencies and the end of the dollar as the world reserve asset (the Dutch central bank actually had a paper recently explaining why storing gold is key for central banks to restore trust in the system in case of a reset).

Are you complying as a runner?
Why - because you were told and no other reason? Because that would be something an ignoramus would do.

Because I am not entitled enough to think I know better than Government advice.

If everyone took your attitude the whole thing would fall apart and more people would die.

It's life and death. But whatever, you want your own rules.

I agree , I see no exit strategy to this current methodology , I wasn’t a fan of the herd immunity , but right now this current approach merely leaves large segments of the population with no exposure to the Virus , that’s not a solution

100% there is no way possible they could put this on ordinary folk.

The elite will pay for this downturn the banks included we wont forget how the banks treated decent people in this country now its their turn to foot the bill that all began from them.

He gets the seriousness you mean?
    I hope...

My dad would have been the same. He was golfing up until courses were closed, and even heading to meet his mates for a pint, visit to paper everyday.
He wouldn't listen to me or my mum. But I think things sunk in with him about a week ago.

I'm sorry you ended up with that nasty experience through no fault of your own but you just sound angry. A runner keeping their distance didn't give you anything regardless of how far they ran. People should always question what they are told to do and why they are told to do it, especially when the given 'why' is vague or non-existant.
I WON'T be complying with the 2km thing unless somebody can rationally explain how it increases the risk of me spreading the virus. I don't fear any police action in Ireland for obvious reasons.
It's a personal thing for which I carry full responsibility, as with all my decisions and actions.
    Simply done.

((normal run in km/2km) X (risk of spreading the virus*)) is the increased risk you are generating.

    * a value unknown to and unknowable by you.

So your selfish 10k run incurs five times the risk of a 2k run.
