    That's the problem with exponential increases.
    In the beginning all the increases look small and manageable.
    People become complacent.
    But then it gets big quickly and infrastructure and people are overwhelmed.
    500 bed capacity to be reached by April 4th if current trends continue

    Very likely. But we are well behind the curve.


    Idiot reporter on RTE now saying that we have flattened the curve because test results aren't very high. Its nonsense because test resullts relate to one week ago!!


    Notification of contacts is pointless as they will already be infectious by the time the test results are in.



    We have 10 deaths today. No matter what we do now, this will double every two to three days for the next 14 to 15 days.


    This will be 200-300 deaths a day!

    What point are you trying to make here? I think it’s pretty clear from the % fatality rate that the UK confirmed cases is way off. They also have 40x more deaths despite only having a population of around 18x ours.

    It's looking like it is not a "growing" problem as more testing is the cause of the increased number of reported cases, it is not likely to do with the virus continuing to spread as much as it was. The virus has been here for weeks and given the measures being undertaken, it is not spreading as quickly as it would've been. In fact, based on the numbers currently as against what Varadker had predicted, we are managing to contain it at a level which enables the hospitals to manage the serious cases.

    The virus is only a problem where symptoms are not manageable without medical assistance and this is the approach of the authorities with regard to testing. This then allows the official numbers to stay low which gives people a sense of comfort. However, we are unfortunately not going to be getting back to normal for quite a while it seems.

    It seems like this is pretty huge, positive news? Once it gets wider media coverage I'd imagine we'll see a lot of pressure to lift quarantines for the not-at-risk sections of society.

    This is all known already.

    The problem with the idea comes when you ask what percentage of old people are 'healthy old people'.

    No politician decided to lock down their country due to excessive caution in suspecting that healthy old people might die. They did it because their health services demonstrably couldn't cope with the exponentially increasing number of people with life-threatening acute lung infections.

    Simply ending a lockdown when nowhere near herd immunity means the epidemic will flare right back up again. Infections will again spread through care homes and hospitals, and we'll be right back to the scenes we're seeing in Italy and Spain.

    We need a solution, but it's not as simple as just putting the unhealthy elderly somewhere safe for a few months, because that has already been seen not to work.

    I wondered also whether ID stood for infectious disease but I've never heard anyone refer to it as Covid ID. Or referring to any infectious disease with ID appended.

    Having seen a clip of Boris, Vallance, Hancock and hordes of media in the same room a few days ago while promoting social distancing they look utterly idiotic in hindsight.

    Really and truly have given off an awful message and look where all 3 are at now.

    How the public in the UK have any faith in their methods, I do not know.
