Why is George Lee calling it Covid ID.

I haven't heard this term before.

Over 900 deaths in Italy in the last 24 hours.

This isn’t a drill - stay the **** at home. You don’t want to catch this, you don’t want to spread this. Your great grandparents were called to war, you’re being called to stay on your couch unless you absolutely have to. That means you only go out to buy groceries once a week, to fill a prescription or to work if you’re in a frontline role. Exercise can be done at home, loads of free videos on YouTube.

You do NOT need to go jogging, you do NOT need to go hiking, your dog absolutely will survive being inside for a few weeks. Your pet’s health is not as important as that of your fellow human beings.

If you disagree with this, you’re being selfish.

Called to war? Where are you living?

A week of symptoms is long enough though. Surely by that stage you need some help.

We may see further restrictions announced this evening, following the meeting of the National Public Health Emergency Team earlier. Awaiting an update on if this is happening.

At this stage I will never give the government any credit.
They were very slow at the start of this for too long. They should have shut down airports and not allowed anybody in.
Only last week they ordered all civil servants to go to work without any proper protection in place.

We heard in the update around 11.30 that prisoners in our jails have been getting visits and that stops tomorrow. All the prisoners and staff working in prisons have been put at risk by this. And who knows how many people they are in contact with outside of work?
A prison is like a hospital as regards infections and viruses.
We also heard in that update that they are working hard to get people home who want to come home but you don't hear anything about them being quarantined when they arrive which should be the case. We don't need any new strains of this entering the country.

We are not testing enough people. We didn't lock down on time. We really haven't locked down enough yet. Varadkar going around saying he was projecting that 15k people would be infected, then knocking that number down to 6k and now reversing it again but still staying low is ludicrous. We need to make people realise just how dangerous this is. The word is getting out there now but it's not coming strongly enough from our government.
    Pull my finger.

Your rant has the same gravitas as those 3 words.

Wtf. Do you really not get it?

I do get it. I understand that this is a serious thing to hit Ireland. But this is a discussion forum. So its right that we discuss the virus and the measures that are taken. I am of the view that in Ireland we don't need to be as draconian as other countries as our population density is lower as is our population in general.

Jogging is fine, going for a walk is fine....
Being outside in general is fine.... just avoid large groups, crowds. Its pretty easy to do considering the circumstances.

You can tick or untick the countries you want to compare, you can zoom in and out, decide how you want the data to be displayed. It's just super and I hope we are watching all those lines turn downwards very very soon.

Don't worry, George Lee was just malfunctioning from all the Covid 19 coverage, he is seeing the 9 upside down, and his brain is just seeing Id, he just needs a break.

I think it's safe to say that we're a long way behind Singapore anyway?

For a tiny island, to be so far up the list of total deaths is a pretty bad reflection of how things were dealt with here. Let's hope it doesn't get too far out of hand. Right now, it doesn't look good.

    Friday 27th March, 2020

IRL/ HSE Confirmed Covid cases 1,819
IRL/ HSE Confirmed Covid deaths 19

UK/ NHS Confirmed Covid cases 14,579
UK/ NHS Confirmed Covid deaths 769

Leo saying he expects the beds to be full in the next few days is grim, do they not have 500 beds? That’s an unreal increase from the 54 stated

    :(

We seem to be fattening the curve than flattening

That's the problem with exponential increases.
In the beginning all the increases look small and manageable.
    People become complacent.
But then it gets big quickly and infrastructure and people are overwhelmed.
500 bed capacity to be reached by April 4th if current trends continue

Very likely. But we are well behind the curve.

Idiot reporter on RTE now saying that we have flattened the curve because test results aren't very high. Its nonsense because test resullts relate to one week ago!!

Notification of contacts is pointless as they will already be infectious by the time the test results are in.

We have 10 deaths today. No matter what we do now, this will double every two to three days for the next 14 to 15 days.

This will be 200-300 deaths a day!

A week of symptoms is long enough though. Surely by that stage you need some help.

There's no cure so the only help a hospital can offer you is assistance in breathing, if your symptoms are mild you won't need that.
The body can take a long time to fight off a virus like this, there have been reports of as long as 5 weeks.
It's not something to worry about if it lasts a long time, only if breathing becomes difficult.
