It must be very widespread in UK?
It's not like the royals would be out and about on the Tube.

Still waiting to see significant flattening of the curve. For the past 10 days, the exponential growth in cases has been roughly constant with about 21% increase per day (used line fit on log of numbers). By start of April, there'll be about 900 or 1000 cases per day. Of course, some of this could be due to increased testing rates.

It's not so 'far' today...they announce their figures in the morning. That won't be updated until tomorrow at this time.

You are allowed leave the house even if you are in self isolation. You can go for a walk(s) on your own and you are not breaching your isolation (I was reading this yesterday in an explanation of what to 'self isolate' means). Quarantine is a different thing and is for people who have been confirmed to be sick.
check HSE please for the differences between self quarantine/restricted movements and self isolation.

About 10% of cases in every country seem to be health workers. Well they are around coronavirus patients all day but I would have thought their PPE would have prevented the infections
According to the press briefing last night 26% of current cases in Ireland are health care workers. That should be a reason for concern.

The testing is catching up atm, the measures we have put in aren't reflective of current numbers. The next 2 weeks will tell the bigger picture

To put unnecesary strain on already strained services is what is irresponsible. Exactly what you are advocating here.

That anyone with symptoms follows the HSE advice and self isolate and talk to your GP.

Don't go about your business and potentially spread the virus.

Some people have very mild symptoms and they need a doctor to decide if they are a risk.

Absolutely disgraceful what's happening today. I have been showing symptoms sweating and coughing my lungs hurt so much. Told I have to reply for test. Waiting 5 days already. Had Pneumonia 12 months ago and have underlying autoimmune disorder.

Tears are running down my face as i type this. I can't believe it

kick your GP up the arse on this, what did they come back to on this

They are under enormous pressure on this, mistakes will be made but make sure they light a fire if you are in a bad way

Is it compared to our population level? That is good news if that is the case and I would be optimistic that we may have this under control if there is not a big increase. If this goes well for Ireland Leo Varadkar will go down in history for leading us through this.

I don't get this line of thinking at all. In their own words they are just following advice from WHO and the CMO. What exactly has he done to "lead" on this?

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Sorry to hear this. I know of others in a similar situation!

And yet some people seem to be falling over themselves to praise our government in their handling of this so far...

I don't think we are getting the full truth of what is going on. These press briefings have more than a whiff of propaganda about them!

There are a very clear guidelines about what symptoms you should have to contact GP.
OP clearly stated that he did not experience them so please calm down and do not attack people talking how irresponsible they are.

Exactly, if people are that bad call an ambulance.

Don't be waiting to be tested.

Regardless of you have covid 19 or not you need medical care.

People need to use their own initiative here too.

To be honest as bad as it sounds it might be a good thing the likes of Prince Charles has it

I think it would really make it hit home to a lot there tbh

If it was just down to numbers catching up, I'd have thought the growth rate would be sub exponential. But that's only a guess.

So far the UK have tested over 90K people and plan on ramping up to hundreds of thousands a day.
Do we we know how many tests have been done hereto in Ireland?

Haven't seen anything from WHO revising their policy. The Indo said it was an Irish decision.

See case definitions from their latest SR, this is the basis for testing:-

    https://www.who.int/docs/default-source/coronaviruse/situation-reports/20200324-sitrep-64-covid-19.pdf?sfvrsn=703b2c40_2
    Suspect case

    A. A patient with acute respiratory illness (fever and at least one sign/symptom of respiratory disease, e.g., cough, shortness of breath), AND a history of travel to or residence in a location reporting community transmission of COVID-19 disease during the 14 days prior to symptom onset. OR

    B. A patient with any acute respiratory illness AND having been in contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case (see definition of contact) in the last 14 days prior to symptom onset; OR

    C. A patient with severe acute respiratory illness (fever and at least one sign/symptom of respiratory disease, e.g., cough, shortness of breath; AND requiring hospitalization) AND in the absence of an alternative diagnosis that fully explains the clinical presentation.

Definitely a lot didn't. I was in a Tesco Extra the Friday the school's shut and the cashier remarked she was glad she went on her holiday when she did, came back from Barcelona on Sunday. Didn't seem to have a notion she might have caught it and shouldn't be working in close contact with the public. Had to bin all my uncovered veg as she had touched them.

Wash stuff you buy? You don't know anything about the health status of whoever packed or shipped or handled it. Assume they were sick and and act accordingly.

But, but you need to be really sick in hospital in the UK to be tested.

I read before that Germany would only record the death of those patients who died as a direct and exclusive result of coronavirus. No underlying illness directly contributed simultaneously.

Which on probabilities would seem a good explanation imo?

I suppose if you have a heart attack while driving and crash the car, which killed you, the heart attack or the crash ?There probably isn't an answer that is right.

Why is Simon Harris still in a job??

3 weeks ago he told us all that we were not at risk of the Pandemic that we now have.

Yet he is still in his job, that We are paying for!

Call for him to be replaced!!!

    Where did he say this?

Either way he can't predict the future in a situation like this.

He's been credited for the job he's doing and will remain Minister for Health until a new government is formed.

Also, this is not the time for politics or sacking ministers etc, just need to do the work to protect people.

what else would you suggest they do

this hasn't happened before, no one can be prepared for this

we are going to run out of ventilators and the drugs needed to manage patients on them unless we get lucky

this is going to bugger the economy so they had to act in a reasonable manner

They haven't done much wrong really, maybe forced quartining people coming back would be the main gripe
