When all this settles down it’s very important that we as a nation remember the huge amount of self entitled gombeens who live among us in society.
I’m talking about the ones who ran out in week one and stripped the Aldi shelves bare.
The same shelves are full again in spite of yere greedy efforts ye swine.huge thanks to the Aldi staff who had to witness and entertain that fcukin nonsense.
I’m talking about the ones who queued up for a McDonald’s just to be seen doing it and having the guards go out and send ye home.precious emergency service time wasted on moving sheep out of a drive through.fcuking embarrassing.
And finally a special mention for all the idiotic fools and their “sources” who sent all the messages about the “11am LOCKDOWN”.
May ye all be remembered as the self entitled, idiotic gombeens that ye are and always will be.

Let's not forget the wet brains who flocked to the beach and mountains, queing for coffee and ice cream like a normal bank holiday.

I knew we had a fair proportion of stupid people among us, but the last few weeks have really been an eye opener.

It's from an official account. You get da **** out!

An official account that mentions nothing about PPE. What is your point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,786 ✭✭✭wakka12

Maybe so. Why are so many of our confirmed cases Health care workers?

About 10% of cases in every country seem to be health workers. Well they are around coronavirus patients all day but I would have thought their PPE would have prevented the infections

So a very important question in all of this mess.

For men - how are we going to trim our heads without barbers for the next few months?!

You cannot possibly believe that photo is of 2 doctors standing around treating a coronavirus patient. I don't see how anyone could. Absolutely bizarre.

More good news? The Netherlands has "most probably" ended the exponential growth of coronavirus infections, the Dutch Institute of Health has said.

I'm struggling to understand your logic. The amount of cases have no relevance to the amount of ppe used. Someone testing might never see a positive case, they still need ppe.
If the amount of cases has no relevance to the amount of PPE consumed, then why are they out of stock?

Yeah this is a big problem. It people don’t get confirmation they actually have it they will become too frustrated to isolate themselves properly. Some will do as they are meant to but others might nip out for a walk or drive when it’s quiet when they are not meant to leave the house at all

And it will be very frustrating to not know if you have immunity or not.

Could you now go and safely help with the care of an elderly relative for instance? You won't know, so you can't.

And on a wider scale, we won't have any idea when or if the population achieves herd immunity.
That makes emerging from a lockdown a much bigger gamble than it could be.

I'm going to buy an electric hair clippers. Used to get a number 3 buzz cut but will maybe start with some high settings.

I don't understand why the HSE would be short of PPE.
There has only been a run on that stuff very recently.

Shouldn't we have had an adequate stock in advance of a pandemic?
    Do we have pandemic modeling/forecasting?

Just 1,329 cases and the HSE are out of stock?

Imagine what it will look like when there are 13290 cases.

In the past the traditional ppe was used for the likes of MRSA cases and consisted of plastic gloves, the blue pleated masks and a white plastic apron and sometimes a plastic eyemask. In theatre they wore full gowns. These would have been ordered frequently and the hospitals would have lots in stock.

But the full hazmat gear required for Covid19 would not have been in huge supply. From what I've seen they need goggles, and the masks(which have to be changed frequently and are different to the blue pleated ones) stronger gloves which are also changes frequently so these stocks have to be built up.

Considering there is a run on these globally that would take time.

I would think the reason Spain is in such a bad way at the moment is, that up until two weeks ago it had thousands if not hundreds of thousands of tourists arriving weekly from all over the world, who had spent a few hours cramped on planes breathing each others air.
    Yes.
Same as ski resorts in Italy, France and Austria acted like petri dishes.
"On the evening of 7 March, a 36-year-old German was tested positive. He worked as a bartender in a popular après-ski bar, packed with tourists from all over the world every evening"
"15 people from the barkeeper’s circle tested positive"

    Statistically, they are more likely.

If I only have to consider my movements and my actions day to day in an environment where I could be, I am at a low risk of making a mistake once or twice with touching my face and or touching something without gloves etc etc.

I can make a few mistakes and be ok.

A health care worker can be super careful and heed correct procedure 99% of the time, then that one time they take their eye off the ball they can be infected.

While I agree with your logic, I don't think you should even talk about taking their eye off the ball. Soldiers are statistically more likely to die, "if they take their eye off the ball"
Bus drivers more likely to die if they take their eye off the ball.
    The list goes on.
All the more important that they have adequate supply. Which they don't by many accounts.

You’re the one that’s whinging. If you don’t want to work say it to your supervisor instead of bitching and moaning that you are in work but in your opinion shouldn’t be.
As for the rest of the post i don’t think I’m better than anyone else.all I do know is I wasn’t one of the sheep queuing for a toilet roll or a Big Mac.

No you're not whinging:rolleyes: And you're surely not better than anyone else, you can't even write a sentence for a start. I highlighted a few efforts. If you're out of work you could do an online basic English and grammar course.

I'm making a point about redeployment, not whinging.

I don't believe they are out of stock but even if they were, every frontline worker should be wearing ppe. As I said, you'll have testers who never come in contact with a positive case, the fact is they don't know at the time so they have to wear ppe.

Again, I don't understand your logic, maybe you could explain it to help me understand?

And they'll change it constantly as well which is of course the correct thing to do but consumes PPE with no relation to actual confirmed cases.

When the schools closed in Italy some Italians went on holidays, the spread was massive, they are talking about 500,000 to 1 million cases over there right now.

Apart from some numpties going to beaches, bit of panic buying etc. We have by and large behaved ourselves.

Paddies Day was only 8 days ago, it feels like fúcking years.

Unfortunately, it looks like out testing strategy has essentially collapsed.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2020/0325/1126202-those-seeking-test-must-display-two-major-symptoms/
New rules have been introduced for Covid-19 testing, which means patients will need to meet revised criteria to qualify in future.

Patients will have to display two major symptoms - a fever and either a cough or shortness of breath - and fall into a priority group in order to be tested.

These are close contacts of a confirmed case, healthcare staff and vulnerable groups.

All patients who have not yet been swabbed, and who do not have an appointment for a test date, will not now be tested and will be required to reengage with their GP.

Essentially anyone not called for a test who is waiting for one is taken off the list and has to called their GP again. So what has gone wrong with the commitment to test 4500 per day (last week it was to be 15,000)?

Most people who contract the virus have either no symptoms or mild symptoms. We are now not going to test any of that group of people.

Are they working off the assumption that the extra measures announced yesterday is enough to curb the spread alone without a community testing strategy?

I'm not trying to be overly critical here as the government have handled this well, but why was a commitment made to ramp up testing without the means to analyse the results? Due to the huge backlog of testing and the new developments today, our figures for infection cannot be trusted in any way. It is a drop in the ocean compared to the actual numbers.

Thanks for the info. I'd much rather address the shortage than pretend it's not happening. I'd like to see the government / Dr Tony detail the extraordinary measures they are taking to protect the people who are taking extraordinary risks to protect us.

Ok, we will agree to disagree.

But I have been assured by one of of Irelands biggest PPE companies they have huge stocks, stocks are also sailing already and more ordered.

I would be leaning towards the staff not being allowed to think there is an endless supply.
