    Based on what exactly?

Because a few people on Twitter and Facebook are shouting and roaring for a lockdown.

Our case numbers are below projections at the moment and social distancing is only a week old, at least let them see how well its working. Which is is by the way. If you read the CMOs comments, public health doctors when contact tracing now are only seeing contacts within the home. That shows it's working to an extent

Our case numbers are low because of backlog
Most other countries have now enacted a lock down to control infection
Best expert in this area Elizabeth Pisani 100% lock downs are necessary
Social distancing is not working as well as anticipated
Should we wait for numerous deaths and thousands of infections before making the decision to lock down and enforce the bloody thing.

I totally agree with you about those eejits heading to the beach, beauty spots and holiday parks like it's a bank holiday weekend. But they are a small minority.....it would be very harsh to lock up 5m people just to keep a brake on those inconsiderate clowns.

I get what you're saying, but most of us are already locked up down here as much as possible...and the thing is if a few of those people had it and passed it on we could have a devastating cluster of cases/deaths in our area due to those eegits coming down, something that could completely devastate the area for years to come!

It's a small minority but when you're in the middle of one of those areas and see the locals all trying so hard and looking after the vulnerable people then next thing the place is absolutely full up with people from Dublin i'm sure you would feel the same.
Nothing against people from Dublin lol, but they have the highest infection rate in the country and we had less than 5 positive cases in our county at the last check so it's obviously worrying!

I drive for a living and have to say there is fcuk all traffic around Dublin and most of the big towns I drive through.Seems to me that the social distancing is working a treat.
Got 3 runs in today instead of the normal 2 because of the lack of traffic.
Still a few people roaming around walking but by god the M50 is so much clearer at rush hour than a month ago.
From my own perspective it looks like the majority of people are doing whats recommended and its only a minority who are acting the cnut queing at chippers and the like.

It’s about two and a half hours since a car passed the neighboring road here. The silence is deafening, it’s weird as fûck. I’m in Glasnevin near a main road and in an estate with about 230 houses. Pubs, shops, supermarkets, a garage, post office, gym all nearby but today and this evening especially silent, weird as fûck.

They'll need more than 400 to take Finglas :D

My cousin in the army is fully briefed on a lockdown. Showed me a list of names on the board. Different groups have different patrols around Dublin. At minimum 400 waiting for the go ahead to be deployed from his barracks now.

Are they not doing what would normally be expected to free up other more experienced nurses etc? Surely they are not being thrown on to the front line?
I agree they should be paid something, this is extraordinary times and they are being used to supplement the health service

I understand you don't expect them not to be paid, apologies if I was short,

The problem lies in the fact that most of them, while on regular work placement, work in nursing homes etc to earn money, this option is now not available to them regardless of what in the hospital their duties will be.

They also are being asked to leave private accommodation because their landlords and flatmates don't want the risk of them bringing the virus home.

I never thought I’d never see the day tanks would roll down the streets of my town. F16s overhead. Gunship helicopters circling.
Nuclear submarines in the nore river.

    WhatsApp announcement 11am.

Well done for spotting that. There is an infinite number of different sentences which can be constructed from the English language. Thanks for pointing one of them out to me.

    Is that Termonfeckin ?

Seriously though, that’s gotta be unsettling, the silence here, weird as it might be, I prefer that to a scene from Platoon.

You do realise that we're testing more than some other countries.

There may be a backlog but tests still being done every day.2000 at present, soon to be 4000 and then 15000.

How do you know social distancing is not working as the incubation has not passed for that.

That's a week to 10 days away and then we can see if it's working.

Too many "experts" on here who just don't get it and screaming for a lockdown and will then expect to see an instant decline in numbers.

Wait till next week when UK is a week in to lockdown and their case numbers and deaths go up.

People also forget that a vast majority of people are in a self imposed lock down.

Funnily enough I run down the Finglas Rd almost to the cemetery fairly regular into Dublin Ind Est,that spin down is normally a nightmare but ive been sailing on down lately no traffic.
I can only judge what I see but seems like the general public are taking this serious, yeh a few morons but the lack of traffic is a big pointer that as a country we are all taking it serious.

Most people in Dublin are following social distancing measures to the maximum degree (and it's fantastic to see).

Anyone driving outside the county on a leisure trip in the middle of a global pandemic is clearly brain dead.

Probably have, and hate to say it but its reality if things really get that bad where there seems no hope people will just go home to be with their family

No. Numbers will continue to go up until we're over burdened and
then a total lockdown will be enforced
Why wait ?? Lockdown now FFS

What's a lockdown to you, what else should we close that's currently open. The scenes we saw last weekend will simply not happen this weekend due to the public outcry over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,923 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

It WILL get worse before better. That much is spelled out for us, with luck, hard work and ingenuity and I guess self discipline and using our collective smarts, we’ll be ok and casualties minimal.

You not think they should have informed these peoples families before they all ****ed off. It wouldn't happen in this country. There is something weird about all this.

You don't know that if we'l get over-burdened, that's what they're trying to prevent.

But did you see Dr Holohan show where we are? He pointed ta the curve and he pointed at the start of the curve.

The infections are going to happen no matter what.

A lockdown here is highly likely but needs to be timed right and even then you may not see numbers drop.

If you get the timing ring, you'll eventually have to lift the restriction and then you risk a second wave of massive infections as people start going out and about again.

Also, we've been in a sort for lockdown for a while now. The people on beaches and parks are actually small minorities despite what people think.
