Just had a takeaway delivered as I think they'll all be shutting soon. Drinking beer for the night, then tomorrow I'll figure out how to avoid cabin fever. I'll definitely have to get out and walk or I'll be even more pleasantly plump than I am now.

It's a very weird time, I'm not sure how to feel about it all.

Duvet, the salon I go to is closing for 2 weeks so you were right to get things done. I'm expecting a lockdown any time now.

Good denizens of Boards I need advice.

Should I go home? Am so worried something will happen to mum or dad or any of my family really and I just heard that Qatar is closing its airport so am worried it will be harder and harder to get a flight home. If other places close or Ireland stop allowing flights I am stuck here. But if I go home I am more at risk or indeed might take it with me. Am really stressed trying to figure out what is the best course of action.

Is anyone worried about not getting paid? The thoughts of signing on and not being able to pay all monthly outgoings is scary.

I know banks are making allowances for mortgages etc., but no doubt the arrears and interest will stack up.

Very hard to give someone else advice, Witchie. Hopefully your parents will be ok, but it would be awful to be stuck so far from home. Something could happen outside of Covid-19 and if flights are cancelled you're screwed. You could stay away from them for 2 weeks if you do decide to return.

If I was you witchie, I'd come home.
Probably not much more chance of you bringing it then getting it here. I think you can get tested here now straight away, don't have to be high risk anymore.
I'd come home, get tested, if all OK, look after the folks, keep them safe as possible, by the end of April we will know a lot more about how it is going.

    But that's just my opinion.

My advice... stay where you are Wichie
People complain about Leo Varadker .. but he's taken decisive action and locked the country down.
Just look to the north..or over to England to see the shítshow we actually could be in!
There is going to be an almost complete closure of bars, entertainment areas and non essential shops (voluntary)
And Ireland is one of the safest countries to be right now, I promise you
Look after yourself ya mad auld wan..stay safe where you are...your parents are safe as fck

    :(

Just want to add, I'm not upset about the pubs, it's just the gradual shutting down of everything is surreal.

I dont know why they just won't bite the bullet and start a lockdown to contain it asap.

I agree LER. And to think, we were all laughing about it last week :(

We are going to be ok and we are going to get through this. We must stay hopeful and remind ourselves this will end. I think pubs and restaurants closing is a good idea for the greater good but I also think we need to be aware that these changes will impact us too.

We have lived a life filled with liberty and privilege. Its going to be a huge adjustment to have our choices curtailed. It's at times of difficulty that some of us turn to social gatherings, going for a coffee, a few pints, the cinema. We are now going to have to find different things to give us a lift.

I have no anger towards those who are clinging on to the status quo. We are all a bit scared. People have different ways of dealing and this will be no different. Pontificating and hand wringing isn't going to do a damn thing to change this and neither is constant "we are fùcked" style comments.

Let's all keep it together :)

I think it's a gradual shutdown to stop people from losing the plot and totally panicking tbh .
Look at the chaos last Thursday when the schools shut down , absolute mayhem ,
That's only my opinion , I could be way off the mark Leggy .

Just home from an absolutely fabulous day with my family. We’ve resigned ourselves to the fact that if one of us gets the virus, we’ll all get it. There are some fates worse than death and for us, being around each other is extremely important for our mental health. Then I went for an hour and a half walk just me and the dog, and ill probably be alone for the next few days. That’s grand with me too. There’s a lot to be said too for enjoying your own company and liking who you are. Not sure what the future holds but thankful I don’t find myself so intolerable I can’t stand my own company for a few hours :pac:

You're right, Mam, it'll probably happen day by day over the coming week.

I'm not in a high risk group, and I'm happy enough to hunker down and let it pass, but a lot of people might get seriously ill or die and there's people panic buying loo roll. It's been repeatedly stated that it doesn't all come from China and there's plenty in the supply chain, but the message isn't getting through.

Just spoke to my aunt and she thinks am better staying here. I am asthmatic with a history of pneumonia and a weak immune system so she is worried that I would put myself at risk travelling. She also thinks my parents will be safe as neighbours have offered to shop for them and they are staying inside.

My best friend who is an a&e sister in a large UK hospital is of the opinion I should go home.

    Am so conflicted.

There certainly is. I've always maintained that being able to sit with yourself and not rush to distract is an important part of being mentally well. The thing is though some people do find this extremely challenging. I know a few of them. Even spending an hour a day with another person or having the social interaction of being in a shop, it's everything to them.

Spot on Leggy , and people need to listen to what's being said and pay heed to it . We're in unknown territory for sure so the Powers that be are doing their best for the whole country and we all need to do likewise .
The fear of the unknown is what , imo , is scaring everyone, and that's natural .

Would it help to write down your thoughts around this decision Witchie? Sometimes it helps to make sense of a situation and give you a bit of clarity.

Heading home for the evening, chilling out. Going to get some wine and Netflix then for the night. Gone mad into reading since holidays. So might do some of that too.

Hopefully soon I’ll be able to graduate from picture books :D

Oh I know yeah and I’m very mindful of that aspect of things too. I was in the shop today and I was behind someone in the till who had someone on loud speaker, he sounded like an older man and he was like “did you get my razors and my shaving foam, maybe get me a few tins because I don’t know when I’ll get out myself”. I nearly broke down there and then. I’m very worried about those who find times like this challenging and are afraid to even step outside for fear of what they’d catch.

I think there’ll be a huge surge in mental health problems in the elderly in months to come. That’s why we all need to do our part and chip in and be mindful. While there is no vaccine or a cure, altering our own human behaviour is the only way to tackle it for now. But as we’ve seen, some people are to selfish and braindead to even do the bare minimum.

Witchie, think about if you got sick, where would you rather be?
If you're parents get sick where would you rather be?

I have family in England & that prick Boris Johnson doesn't care less about them. They are old with underlying conditions...... I'm so worried for them.... They don't even think it's bad yet, because of what their government is telling them

Holiday with just Mrs G is defo being cancelled. Just have to wait it out until the obvious flight cancellation happens and it will. Spent the day chatting to work people and I'm faced with a difficult decision that will ultimately depend on the UK. Suppin a few beers now. We lashed into a big roast beef dinner today. Feck it! Next month we could be lashing into the cat.:D

I marched back from London last Thursday to be with a frightened wife and daughter. No regrets despite the obvious financial implications. My parents couldn't give a flying feck about their health as my sister is insisting they babysit while she and her husband work and they agree. Some of the stuff going on here is disgraceful.

Kitchenside. Kitkat, tea, no o.h with me again. He was tested for C19 and he's clear.
My heart's flipping over. I think I underestimated the situation.

I was in Ireland when my Mom passed away, the company gave me over 6 weeks MIA to be with her as she fought with cancer. My dad went rapidly afterwards, the day that he died I was doing my last check in the B777 training device before the simulator, luckily my examiner gave me the easiest check in the world and drove me to the airport to fly home, all of this happened in 12 months. I was content that I had spent quality time with my parents before they passed away and our last trip together was through Kerry across the Shannon to stay in Dromoland Castle.

@Witchie, I stayed here because I had a great job that I couldn’t find in Ireland, what exactly are you staying in KL for? Boyfriend? Job? Freedom? Escapism? You have to see this for yourself and decide, will you be happy never being able to see your parents again or thinking that “If only”?

More and more airlines are stopping flights each day, you have to decide and make sure that decision is the best for you.

Apologies if this is too harsh.
