Doing so would expose the state to legal action from airlines that operate those routes. Also freedom of movement is kind of a cornerstone of EU citizen rights - it's not possible for an EU state to deny access to any person that has already passed within the borders of another EU state.

We are not part of Schengen area luckily in this instance so require passport checks. EU states when faced with migrant influxes regularly violate this principle and mount border checks, sorry no entry you came from a different country.

I get it's complicated but is the need of some Italian student coming to learn the language greater or some Irish Kids ski holiday more important than national security. That's what we are talking about. Most international businesses have restricted international travel in favour of tele conferencing and not spreading plague.

I am referring to the other person's comment
Take it up with them. Thanks

I never even referred to China in that comment.

I was adding to point you made and agreeing with you.

Slow down and read the posts before you have a high blood pressure attack.:)

This makes for depressing reading if this is what it takes to control the virus in China:

Locked up inside his apartment complex for 40 days!!!!

    Interesting indeed.

He says the gates are chained to keep them in. Any reports on the earlier threads of people being locked into their apartment complexes were shrugged off as fake news.

I've seen people laughed at here for stocking up on food and being told the Chinese are in quarantine but there's been no shortage of food. He says you get some veg and a small amount of meat. Not a balanced diet and he's losing weight. He also says ..
"Price of food is getting very expensive now. For an example, what you will get for €20 now is two carrots, two red peppers and two heads of cabbage – that is it.” Jaysus!

Looks like a very legit website

Why no update from HSE this evening?

Because they have decided not to test anybody. Nothing to see here (in Ireland)....move on....

Yes, but if that person has travelled from northern Italy to, say France, and flown from Paris to Dublin you won’t be seeing that trip on their passport check, you’ll only know about the Paris- Dublin leg of the journey.
So you would have to ban the entrance to any Italian wherever they come from.

All the governments around the world are telling the organization's not to mention the C word, because if you cancel you open up a raft of insurance claims, so they won't cancel events where possible like paddys day and when they have to cancel like they will with the Olympics they will wait til the last minute

What C word are you talking about?

    Corona?
    Cancel?
    Cancer?

I don't know. F*CK the insurance claims etc. If it was me with plans to travel, I would understand that these are extraordinary circumstances beyond my control, and I would take the hit to my pocket and that would be the end of it. I wouldn't be looking for compo.

Hate to break it to you, but it's still considered a developing nation by the WTO. Still millions there living in poverty, enormous inequality, hygiene and health and safety light years behind what's acceptable in the EU, atrocious pollution.

You might want to read a book sometime.

    Massive inequality and poverty yes.

They also have massive cites with big skyscrapers nukes and a space program.

It is a land of contradictions to be sure.

As I said to the wife this evening, wasting our time looking at the RTÉ news.

C4 or Sky is where it’s at, we’ll be at the same crisis point in a few weeks. Whatever they decide to do in the UK regarding lockdowns we’ll be following in a week or so...

Look up the definition. "a thing causing trouble or irritation."
Picking on semantics shows you don't have anything else to add.

The briefing already took place at it's usually time just before 6.
    No new cases.

    Well that's changed now...

Has it been confirmed that there will not any briefing tonight?

    Briefing was at 5.30

Said 2 cases in the North. Spoke about people should listen to HSE and read the site and sees no reason as to why Patricks Day will be cancelled

If you're going to post it as fact at least fact check it first.

Experts confirm human to animal spread of coronavirus, dog found with ‘low levels’ of the virus

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/experts-confirm-human-animal-spread-coronavirus/
Last week the dog, whose 60-year-old human companion is in hospital with the illness, was placed under quarantine after nasal and oral samples tested “weak positive” for Covid-19.
The dog was first tested on February 26 and now three further tests have confirmed that the Pomeranian has low levels of infection.

And the Royal Veterinary Collage has issued a statement that at present there is no evidence that pets can become infected and that in this instance it is likely that it's a case of the virus 'living' on the dog much as it would on any surface an infected person has been in close contact with

That poster has a serious illness and a compromised immune system the fear is very understandable maybe cut them a break?

Why doesn’t he self isolate thereby drastically reducing his chances of getting the bad aids that is covid19?

I hate Communism and I hate the Chinese Government.

I feel sorry for the people of China living under that bunch of Mafia but only the Chinese people can take them down.

The USSR and the Eastern Block fell.

Which they didn't do after SARs

They did actually try if you knew your facts - what happens is when they legislate against wet markets it drives them underground. Much like drugs.

Except I didn't say that, did I? I said it's ludicrous to be worrying about tweezers and nail scissors when you have people coming in who can spread illness which ends up killing thousands.

If you want to have the privilege of international travel for your citizens, you should be prepared to conform to norms in the destination countries.

    Yeah, SO out there.

Good point, either one or the other at this stage. Seriously people will put off travel. It's the sensible / rational thing to due for the community (in this case EU community)
