Fair enough, But as viruses become less viable the greater the temperature ( in the body or outside it) and inactivated after 60C or thereabouts. Also as dry throats are a good breeding ground for viruses too, it makes sense to drink hot drinks regularly. Tea, Coffee hot whiskey are usually over 55C.
    No harm at all.

If drinking tea is a good weapon against this then Ireland and UK will sail through.

The Iranians are luck I don't have a big red button that would kill the heads of government, Judiciary and Rpublican Guard.

I think also that Boris Johnson didn't help her cause much either. The charlatan buffoon that he is.

Interestingly, it seems like the rate of positives per number tested in the U.K. is 0.3 percent or so (51 from over 13000), which is the same percentage in Ireland (1 out of 300+)

But I’m also v bad at maths and open to correction!!

Its not the temp. Its the uv light that kills bacteria and viruses.

I used to work in a salon. Its what they use to sterilize things. You put everything under uv light in a box you usually see them on the wall.

UV light is brilliant for killing bacteria.

Its cloudless days we need with sun.

Does Iran and others not have ample UV at the moment though?

Just on the amount of tests. This article says what other countries are doing.

    https://fortune.com/2020/03/03/coronavirus-us-test/

A lot of the article is behind an annoying sign up wall, but reddit gave the following figures.

Tests completed/population: US 472/327 million. UK 13,525/66 million. Italy 23,000/60 million. Korea 121,000/51 million.

Ireland would be about 350/4.8 million (we don't know the exact figure only that it's over 300 so went for a middle between 300 and 400)

So South Korea as we kind of knew already are doing the best, US is very worrying. Ireland would be closer to US than South Korea in terms of tests/population

I see the Scottish government on Sunday still mention the 15 minute contact thing

"It is important to note that this does not involve people the patient may have passed on the street or in a shop as the risk in these situations is very low. Close contact involves either face to face contact or spending more than 15 minutes within two metres of an infected person."

That 15 minutes thing is such an obvious load of BS I am surprised they have put it forward. If an infected person were to sneeze while facing you, and within 3 meters, it would be less than 15 seconds and you'd have it.

True but they say (the HSE) that if you sip fluids regularly your stomach acid might kill the bacteria rather than it spread into your respiratory system. Not sure how accurate that is.

Still limited daylight hours like most Northern hemisphere countries.
Not sure about how much cloud cover they have.

If it did ever come for us to be reliant on UV rays, I say Ireland would not be helped to much.

Any good travel discounts due to the outbreak?

Dublin Airport was very quiet this morning. Flight to London was half empty. Airlines are starting to cancel flights though and I fear for a lot of jobs in the travel industry.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the government/HSE are deliberately keeping the number of tests down in the hope of not actually increasing the number of positive cases? You know the economy and all that...!

Japan and other countries are doing similar and facing the same criticism so it's possibly rationing with limited supply, although South Korea are apparently testing everyone which may be why their numbers are so high.

I suppose it depends which you believe a capitalist government would prioritise between the safety of it's people or the interests of big business. :pac:

Usually covered on a live stream by rte.

Wouldnt read too much into the delay. With a gov meeting today and them due to go over guidelines for events I'd say it's a little longer of a meeting this evening before the press conference.

Rte saying no new cases anyway

What time is sunset at the summer solstice in Ireland? After 11:30 pm anyway.
As someone who spends a considerable amount of time in the summer hiking and cycling believe me we get plenty of UV light. Even check on mothern solar panels, they work great in Ireland during the summer.

It's the reason the flu is seasonal in Ireland just like every other country.

Their UV index is 6 today. Its moderate. Ours is about 2/3 today.

There are other considerations though. How much time you spend indoors. How much light your buildings allow in etc. How you dress.

It was probably me that did the telling off

But answer a question for me. What possibly could be achieved by trying to avoid identifying actual cases? Do you not realise that to do so simply increases the risks to everyone and would have a much more negative impact on the economy? Basically they would risk it spreading like wildfire and possibly destroying major parts of the economy. What sense would there be in that

Government may be hoping for the best while trying to save as much of the economy as it can.

    We all take calculated risks.

As regards making sense the Government may be backed into a corner.
A lot of pressure from business not to wreak the economy as this thing might not be so bad.

I don't believe in Aliens mystical creatures Ghosts or open and honest Governments.

My sister works as cabin crew for Aer Lingus. Theyve been told they may need to put people on unpaid leave. She said they were seeking people to volunteer for the leave before they stop rostering
