Hearing rumours they are going to cancel all sporting events in Ireland from tomorrow onwards.

Source ? Like all events. Even say a junior c match in Leitrim?

Do you anticipate things falling apart for awhile here? I mean I thought things could get bad , but not necessarily society breaking bad bad.

Surely with a bit of organization, once people have access to Food, water, electricity and broadband (communication and distraction), there is much less likely to be any post apocalyptic mad max situation developing?

Sometimes I struggle to differentiate between sarcasm and serious on here.

Lol. No it won’t be mad max. But just as you see some posters here ignoring science and choosing to believe in conspiracies etc etc you’ll have people in the real world act like idiots and breach cordons etc etc. They will make things worse than they have to be, as idiots always have since time immemorial.

It will hurt, people will die and some will make things worse instead of better with their idiocy but worst case scenario 98 to 99% of us will get a bit of a flu during the year and then be fine.

If we are reasonable and don’t scaremonger it’ll be fine for roughly 99% of people. Sucks to be in the 1% though of course.

Sorry wasn’t trying to make it sound like Mad Max.

99% of people should be just fine this day next year. It is important to retain that sense of perspective. This is not the end of civilisation ;-)

CNN reporting 6 deaths in Oregon off only 18 confirmed cases

Don't even think Tehran was that ludicrous at the start.

I think the main outbreak there was in a nursing home?

The number of people infected in China has dropped every day since Feb 16th .

Of all places I didn't think this thread was where people got triggered when it came to religion and read more imaginary things into a straightforward post.
You seem biased, the OP was the one who was triggered by Christianity.

The threads purported resident HSE consultant reckons its the Spanish flu 2.0 and you're going to see the countries annual death rate increase by about 30% from the virus alone.

I never said any such thing nor did I mention a 30% figure in such a context. Feel free to just make things up yourself but don’t attribute your imaginings to me please.

It'll affect older more vulnerable people, so the death rate in the next couple years will be a bit lower than normal...

they were saying it could be in the high tens of thousands in the UK, wouldn't be surprised to see 5 or 6 thousand here, about a 20 percent increase

They took relatively drastic action in Japan.

They've shut all their schools amongst many other things.

Schools have only been shut since yesterday which may be a few weeks too late. It is nearing the end of school year too and most kids doing very little this time of year so its really not that big of a deal to shut them.

i was actually thinking of starting a positive news thread.

    1. this won't end humanity. most people will live. if you're <65 and healthy you will very likely live
    2. several different places are starting trials soon on vaccines on fast tracks
    3. virus is likely to mutate to less harmful strain (looks like it may have already happened in china outside wuhan)
    4. this will almost certainly end Trump and maybe a few other populist morons in power

They are making some kind of announcement about mass events tomorrow, think that’s gatherings of over 5 k, heard it on the radio news today fm or rte tonight. I’d say something pretty serious is on the cards but that’s only my feeling. This \fthing is really spreading, they have to do something.

1% of the population is 48,000. That's a lot of healthcare and/or deaths!

I really dont think they have. Compared to China Japan's reaction has been ridiculously relaxed. They are testing a tiny number really so its likely there simply may be many cases not being detected.

When I said "relatively drastic", I meant relative to us

Dont know where you've heard that.

What was said is they'll issue guidance tomorrow so that organisers of events have something to work with in terms of decided if they have to cancel events or not.

Most large events are likely to have decisions taken with the HSE and Gov

Not really that big a deal for them to shut bar the fact that it will effect several hundred thousand households who work amongst other things whilst their kids are in school.

Probably sounded better as the hamster suggested it when the wheel slowed down .

Why would this end Trump? People say this all the time and he just proves to be a class act again and again, completely resilient to the liberal media agenda.
