123 new confirmed cases in South Korea on top of 476 new confirmed cases earlier and 4 new deaths.

599 new cases for the day

Haven't seen this on any of the threads. Happened a few days ago.

In a report on Arirang and Seoul Economic Daily, the man came from the Office of Emergency Safety Planning at the Ministry of Justice. He was in charged of national emergency situations and crisis management.

BREAKING: HSE staff were out in Connolly Station this morning disinfecting the place after the first case passed through there. A participant described it as "a good scrub".

Oh wait, that's a station in South Korea.

    False competence alarm.

So its best to keep a lid on that as it could be worse than the disease.

I don't understand this mindset. How could 'hysteria' possibly be worse than the spread of a lethal, rabidly contagious virus? What harm could it do , apart from cause a temporary shortage of hand sanitizers in Boots?

Never thought of that, I had an Italian chippers last night fu..........ck

Problem with the Italian restaurant I normally go to is the staff travel to and from Italy quite a lot. I have been avoiding it since the outbreak to be honest. From what I gather it's actually been hit very badly since the outbreak in Italy..

No update folks, just day 1 of self isolation for me and my family. Boy was in school for 4 days before any action was taken. I see kids from my daughters class out and about on road which is madness.
Wasn’t there a meeting at the school scheduled for this morning between hse officials and parents?
I think I read it on the Irish independent?

Well given that China is out of action probably for the year, despite the fact that I am sure they will force factory workers to work and they will continue to state support companies there and this will spread in Europe and north America with no immunity in sight, I would surmise that has not been priced in yet.

There’s a very good chance it is priced in. The markets look to the future, not the present.

Now would be a good time to open up the regional A+E's again you would imagine but then again doctors and nurses are stretched to the limit as-is.

They probably need the doctors working between normal patients and coronavirus patients.

Someone suggested to me that if it gets bad, they maybe need to involve the Army as they have medics who could help .

The Local Injuries Units take a strain off A and E ; maybe create more

Wearing a mask is a good way of signalling to the world that you are as thick as two short planks, and haven’t even been able to read and digest simple advice about the virus - wearing a face mask won’t protect you from catching it.
Can everyone please note that this thread should not be considered a source for any reliable "advice". We have a sticky at the head of the forum linking to reliable information sources

    Any questions, PM me

    Get those factories open comrades
Authorities in China have closed the first of 16 hospitals specially built in Wuhan to tackle the coronavirus epidemic, the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has said. According to Reuters:

News of the closure coincided with a sharp fall in new cases in Hubei province and its capital of Wuhan but China remained on alert for people returning home with the virus from other countries where it has spread.

“The rapid rising trend of virus cases in Wuhan has been controlled,” Mi Feng, a spokesman for China’s National Health Commission told a briefing.

“Outbreaks in Hubei outside of Wuhan are curbed and provinces outside of Hubei are showing a positive trend.”

The virus emerged in Wuhan late last year and has since infected more than 86,500 people, the majority in China, with most in Hubei.

Moving to a more serious note, I wonder will be see a global reduction of births late 2020 and into 2021 as people reduce contact weather as a result of isolation or precaution?

What steps are you and your family taken? And what was the protocol the HSE advised?

I've recieved 3 separate notes from my child's primary sch. he is 10

1st on Friday advising of virus; proving HSE guidelines 're when to contact HSE, who to contact and hand washing guidelines etc
2nd this morning requesting each child brings a personal hand towel to school going forward (very good idea)
3rd this morning advising school in the east affected and closed.

I have found school have been doing there best to handle this; and my child advises extra soap/sanitizing gel in sch aswell.

    Coronavirus updates:
    - South Korea: 123 new cases
    - Kuwait: 10 new cases
    - India: 2 new cases, including the first case in New Delhi

Anyone who’s been to Delhi, will know that this could be a disaster.

There’s a very good chance it is priced in. The markets look to the future, not the present.

Their models(quant or fundamental investment funds) do not account for major "black swan" events. Though a market neutral or net short fund might do better obviously. They also do not have the expertise to predict this, mostly because nobody has a handle on it, not even medical experts. I think they fed will not save them, certainly the ecb or London won't act, already on zero interest rates. I think the uncertainty is at its highest since the crash. Not a bad time to have cash reserves.

You know, I do wonder, in the long term, how this is going to affect China in the eyes of the world so to speak.

I'd imagine, if there is not a handle got on this quick, then a lot of countries will be looking to cut their ties with it.

I've seen a few people in Dublin wearing masks in the last few weeks but they are mainly Asian people as far as I can tell. I was tempted to get one for myself but I saw from a poster here that it doesn't protect you from getting the disease. I was surprised by that.
