    2 cases.

As long as the numbers stay in the low single figures, Ireland will remain in 'containment' phase.

The authorities would only start to become very concerned if the numbers moved into double figures or dozens.

I had never heard of Wuhan before all this, a city the size of London. Or Hubei Province. My geographical education is improving slowly.

    Threads this is part 3.

    22,000 posts or so.
Must ring in to work and say will not be in so

Just to be clear it would probably be less than 1,000 if you took out all the repeats of info, fake news and scaremongering. Not that I'm telling anyone which 1,000 they need to look through....

So many big cities in China that are new.
People come from rural areas to work, an effect of outsourcing our manufacturing. Mad, isn't it.

I'm not sure that posting the same thing every hour achieves much, except of course a possible siteban for spam....

just showing I'm keeping my eye on what's going on in here in case anyone thinks they can take any liberties

The big picture shows a steady decline though. of course there will be regional surges as countries go through the cycle.

Interesting stat that even today, 90% of corona cases are in China.

Border screening is ineffective.in these scenarios of asymptomatic carriers.

Asymptomatic fair enough. Border screening will detect those with symptoms however. Little point doing nothing just because some individual infections may nor be detected.

Both China and Italy have now implemented widespread screening. Maybe too late in the case of those countries tbh.

Which will be the case if they can't contain the single figures.

It's inevitable anyway, but the critical measure is time. Flatten the curve.

look at the figures. that's what I am talking about

You're basing your entire argument on figures from one country whose government has a highly tenuous relationship to the truth...

Having completely slathered myself in hand sanitizer I am now finding it too hard to type. I'm off to seal myself in to an airtight pod for the night.

Or if other countries start to ban flights from Ireland. Oh the irony!

Looks like alot will happen in the UK tomorrow. Will we see them ban large public gatherings? I'd imagine so.

They seem to have a much clearer message to the public than our crowd. Hancock was all over media.

It 'could' happen and they are right to prepare for it, but they don't seem to think it actually will happen.

So which is the least likely to get me infected?

A over packed bus or a over packed DART?

I would be spending 40 minutes on the DART or 50+ on the bus

Yep, they seem to be taking the lead on this. They aren’t even ruling out closing down cities.

That will be in around 5 days, when all the people the initial case in Dublin infected start showing symptoms. Possibly earlier, if there are other infected people flying in or already here.

The DART servers all the posh areas with people back from their skiing trips so I would say you are better taken your chances on the bus.;)

8 weeks ago 100% of cases were in China...and now look! ...Viruses do that.

They've been saying for the last week or two that they fully expected low numbers of Irish cases to emerge.

It's not low numbers that are a problem.....it would only be if it suddenly started moving into double figures and beyond that they would become very concerned.

If there is a government directive against flying to an affected zone does it cover?

If it is a ban, yes. If it is advice, probably not.

Vinters federation have informed the government that all st Patrick's Day festivities will be going ahead as per usual.

Some metrics are uncertain, but we can be certain now about the possibility of spread without containment measures.
