Iran's minister of health: tomorrow 300,000 people with equipped gear will come to every house and we will eradicate corona.

Posted in Farsi on twitter by ISNA. Probably somewhat of a poor translation but it sounds really sinister.

If the St.Patrick's Day parade was halted, the 100,000 visitors will come to Dublin anyway.....why would they cancel and lose all their money?

I predict the festival will go ahead. There are nowhere enough medical grounds on which to cancel at the moment. Flights in and out of the country are continuing as normal without any restrictions and tourists are arriving in their usual numbers.

This logic is ridiculous. They won't come in the same numbers not a chance as the festivities won't be taking place and there won't be people 20 deep standing side by side for miles on end all couching, sneezing etc..

Prevention of spread should be our holy grail now.

    3 Juventus players contracted it

Unless something new has happened it's 3 players from Pianese in Serie C who contracted it and Juventus under 23 team are self isolating since they played them recently.

There's kids in our school due back this week from one of the affected countries. I'm immunosuppressed, pick up infections constantly and take months to get over them fully. I'm considering keeping my kids home to try minimise the risk of it coming home to me. That might sound alarmist to others but my life would be at risk if I contracted this.
Then you are doing the right thing.
Have they done a period in isolation before being allowed back to school?
I think most people can think of someone this could be fatal for. We all know somebody elderly or sick and thats who im thinking of

The issue is mass congregation of close to half a million people in a small area of the city center, all in shoulder to shoulder proximity, over the course of a couple of hours.

Tourists can still come but without the parade it does remove large congregation / proximity issue.

But there is no risk of community infection at the moment in Ireland. This was the very point the expert was making.....there is no actual risk of contracting the virus in Ireland from another Irish person as we speak (that could change at some point in the future, but it's not the case at the moment).

I know the HSE etc don't want unnecessary panic but are they playing it down a bit too much? Given prior evidence in other countries surely more cases here is almost a certainty?

Anyone seeing any shops start looking fairly bare - was in lidl in Carlow yesterday - place looked like it needed a restock in parts, is this normal or does it look like people are starting to panic?

You cannot say with certainty there is no risk. A week ago governments in Iran and Italy would have reassured citizens that there is no risk of local transmission of the virus as well.

Germany and France had a handful of cases a few days ago and now they are preparing for an epidemic. And you think that inviting several hundred thousand visitors from around the globe to Dublin is not any risk in this regard

I have being in the shops the past few evening and have noticed no real difference apart from they are out of hand gel.
Lidl can be poor to restock in my experience sometimes. Even when the stock is in the stock room.

Just back from Lidl. They were quite well stocked for a Sunday. Nothing out of the ordinary

The Iranians are also supposedly building a hospital similar to what the Chinese did in Wuhan. It sounds like they're inundated over there and a I feel bad for the average Iranian citizen with such poor leadership.

Noticed it in Tesco in Dublin this morning: nearly all rice gone, and severely low on canned goods (tomatoes, etc). Definitely not the norm, I have never seen them that low on those types of items.

Maybe you should step away - it was a different club, Juventus are taking precautions as the youth team were playing them

Lidl and other shops are fine. We won't be seeing food shortages here for a few weeks yet. Let's stick to the facts.
