Yes, I know, but it's still concerning. That and the numbers who are seriously ill. Those folks need respiratory equipment to treat them, without which the mortality would increase significantly. The problem is too many sick at once, not enough respiratory equipment to go around, and then spikes in mortality rates.

Yes, ventilators would be needed for the very seriously ill, and for the worst cases ECMO is the support of choice. Do we have the capability of this level of support? ECMO is what kept lung transplant recipient & journalist Orla Tinsley alive in her last weeks when her lungs ceased to function before transplant in NYC. She did well to make sure she was in part of the world that could provide her with this treatment.

The CIA say it's China's most advanced bio weapons facility of a far different scale to what you are referencing.

You are only looking for an argument.

You see it as pure coincidence.

You are entitled to that opinion of course.

It's been a few hours now, have you found your source for this yet?

Looks like the numbers infected are stablising. Disappointing. :(

We need this to seriously impact economic acitivity. Hopefully it ramps up again and the impact gets more spread.

I would say that most people just want to know if there are any positive results confirmed by the experts in Ireland.

Very few are interested headlines like this but obviously some here on the thread love drama.

As I have said previously, I'm hoping for a recession. Need some emigration to empty out the country so its livable again.

Is this because you can’t afford to buy a house? You realise that won’t change if we have a recession and you still have a tiny deposit?

    Virus Death Rate
    Wuhan Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
    2%*

    SARS
    10%

    MERS
    34%

    Swine Flu
    0.02%

    Seasonal Flu
    <0.01%

These rates are all well and good....but what % of general population end up getting infected (and ultimately what % of general population end up dead) from the virus. This Wuhan virus seems to be much more contagious than the others.... possibly even more so than seasonal flu??

Why was it so important for you that it carried the story?

It’s not yet a positive result?

Will you be disappointed if it turns out a negative result?

As I have said in my previous posts, the services in this country do not have the capacity for all the people in it. Roads wedged, luas and trains packed like sardines. Nowhere to rent for a reasonable price, hospitals overcrowded etc.

By the way, I don't have a tiny deposit....

How about you hop on a plane and do some emigrating instead of wishing financial hardship on people? You're way way off topic apart from posting scutter.

I hear there's some English teaching openings in Wuhan that have come available.

You would have thought they would be told to wear masks and stay at home

From what I'm reading the passengers were sent home and told to stay off work only if they show symptoms...I mean shouldn't they all be quarantined. It spreads before symptoms..zero faith in HSE

Lol, get a grip. if you think Ireland is crowded you've obviously never been anywhere that isnt Ireland.

Why dont you start the process if you want it so much? Fly on over to china and start licking some handrails or something then come home and get on those crowded trams.

If my loved ones weren't in Ireland I'd have been gone long ago. I was much happier living in Ireland years ago when I was on ****e money.

Maybe hop on a train from Connolly after work and come back to me.

You're way off topic. Perhaps it's the personal issues forum you're looking for.

It’s about the same as SARS. They are from the same family after all.

The mortality rate of SARS was 1 in 10 I think I recall. This is a less deadly virus if figures are to be believed.

Yup. I’m talking about transmission though. Quite similar projected r0 figures.

Good website showing the status of infections etc.

It's only just under doubled since about 5 days ago.

But it's not though? SARS peaked at something like 9k infections.....Wuhan is 14k+ and counting.....or am I missing something??
