My phone seems to have developed some sort of software issue!

A lot of the apps crashes as soon as I open them. Gmail, Chrome, Daft etc. Some others seems to work okay - Photos, Facebook, WhatsApp etc are all fine.

Looking at the logs, it's reporting a java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to revoke virtual method 'android.content.res.Configuration....' on a null object reference.

    Anyone else?

Mobile data still not working. Phoned mobile provider and they say its not a network issue. They mentioned it may be an APN issue but can't sort it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 331 ✭✭S.G.M.

I think I may have sorted it. Went into APN and swapped from Internet (hs.vodafone.ie) to Vodafone live! (live.vodafone.com).
Does anyone know if this swap is ok to do?

Yes it is the right setting this is a known problem with the mu11 update

How do you do that ?

Yep, there were 3 APN options and selecting the second one live.vodafone.ie or something seems to have fixed it for the time being but I'll have to head into a vodafone shop to show them the problem to get the money refunded. Even at that I don't like not being able to edit the APN settings

late to the party but thanks for that, fixed my problem.

only had the problem since yesterday so its not too big a deal, having fought them fruitlessly for the guts of a year over being overcharged when i was on billpay with them ive become very weary with regards dealing with their customer service tbh

Is the Poco still a good buy ? I have a Redmi Note 4 & love it but I am tempted by the Amazon deal.

£199 on Amazon right now. Great deal.
Saying that, I just bought my mum a Xiaomi Redmi note 8 for about £150. I like that the note 8 doesn't have such a big notch. F1 is way faster. Note 8 has better battery life.
For £350-400 you can get some great phones like the mi 9 or the Realme X2 pro, but tbh you're unlikely to feel the benefit over the F1
Buy it - you won't regret it
Oh, and the ir face unlock is dead good
It's a pity it doesn't have NFC, is the only real omission

How much better is the battery on the Note 8 ? It's one thing that I love about my Note 4.

I have only used it briefly, just setting it up for mum really over one charging cycle - not typical usage, so can't really be sure. What I know well is that I can charge the F1 to 80% before bed, then after a day's fairly heavy use it will be at 30-40% when I next plug in
I'm assuming the note 8 will be more efficient because of its processor

Tbh, if I'd seen the F1 on Amazon for that price I'd probably have bought that for mum instead of the note

Wife has a note 8 and I don't think the battery is really any better than the Poco. I know she charges her phone more than I do but different use cases so your mileage may vary. I still prefer the poco.

I don't really need the speed of the Poco - I don't game etc. But it just seems such good value.

I listen to FM radio a lot during the day & I have been trying to find a radio that will work with bluetooth headphones. After unsucessfully searching for months I accidently discovered that the FM radio in my Note 4 works over bluetooth.
So I might use the Note 4 as a radio & get a new phone :)

Get it done! Bluetooth earbuds are for pennies on AliExpress (I got some decent ones for €8!) - I use TuneIn on my f1 for 2 1/2 hrs a day going to and from work on 3/4g. Doesn't hit the battery too hard at all. I reckon you might find yourself not needing the note
While the F1 has an FM radio, as you say, without a wired headset there's no antenna. Internet radio all the way!

I am often in areas with poor coverage. I also like using a separate device to not use the phone battery.

Something strange the last few weeks, pulling down the notch has become alot harder, I think since the last update, used to be able to just drag it down, now I have to hold my finder at the bottom of the notch and only pull down when they screen goes slightly blurred.
    Anyone else have same issue?

Anyone have issues with the alarm clock? A few times it just hasn't gone off in the morning and still shows the time it was supposed to go off.

    nope

From a money point of view this has to be the best phone I've owned over a year later and only down in price by 50 quid.
Given no trouble and still as fast as the day I got it.
Bar switching out the camera app for gcam never had any other real issue.
Did the face unlock ever get turned on if country set to Ireland?

Have an annoying problem with the phone.
The only push notifications that come through are for WhatsApp/messaging app. Been happening more then a week now. I just thought it may fix itself but nope.
So I don't get notifications for other apps like YouTube etc
    I've changed nothing.
All apps have no battery saving or restrictions
All needed permissions and notification boxes ticked.

    A question for f1 owners.
I need a dual sim phone soon and would like a xiaomi 9t pro but its beyond my budget.
I'm also looking at the Samsung a50 and the redmi note 8.
The f1 is bang on for my budget.
Should I pull the trigger on it or go for something else?

the samsung has a slightly better camera and has NFC, but is about €100 dearer

the redmi (a great phone for the money) has a better camera but is about €70 cheaper

but the pocofone has a much better processor, and that would swing it for me, even if its a year older than the other two.

i have mine over a year now and it has not dropped in performance or battery life at all in that time.

Bought mine back in march and can't fault it. Have been recommending it to people all year. Normally purchase a new phone each year but will be keeping this one for a good while.

Unfortunately, I did crack my screen over the Christmas so now have to get that repaired. But that was completely my fault. I've dropped the phone a lot and it's as sturdy as any other high end smart phone out there.
