I had it serviced when I bought it, think its on a 2 year interval (according to the trip computer anyway) or something? Not sure how the mileage thing works but I don’t have to worry about it for a while anyway.

You can do them on 15k/ 12 month fixed or 30k/ 24 month variable. You can change it at each oil change, just make sure you're using the right oil for the 30k intervals. Doing 30k on both our Golfs, both do a big mileage and it seems fine.

I have the receipt for the service, I’ll check out what was used, they set the computer to 2 years anyway.

Pug has the best power to weight ratio in the class. A friend of mine just bought an ex demo. Only just over 1300kg.

Yes 270bhp has mechanical front LSD as well same as a Golf GTI PP. I would like to drive one to see what the 1.6 engine is like seems like a lot of power to get out of a 1.6 wonder what its like low down the rev range.

Same engine as a Cooper s iirc?
I've never driven anything with that engine.... Doubt it feels anyway lacking TBH.
Presumably it doesn't get to 150mph? I'd a golf gti at 250kph+ on Garmin .... Felt there was a tad left in there too to be fair.

I was considering a 208 GTi in 2018 and test drove a couple of them. Was a great drive, but there were some things I found annoying which I knew would grate on me over time so didn't purchase. The way the instrument binnacle is set means that the steering wheel obscures a lot of it, even when adjusted for height. And the infotainment system was not at all user friendly. Shame because as a driver's car, it nailed the brief, but as something to live with on a daily basis, it fell short. Ended up buying a Golf GTi which does everything well.

Yes I haven't driven a 308 GTI but I have a feeling it would be like that great to drive and fun but maybe not ideal to live with on a day to day basis compared to its rivals.

Yes can't wait to take my GTI to a certain place in Europe next year ;)

GOODBYE....looked after, well spe'd, good value diesel imports.

With the introduction of the NOx tax from 1st January 2020 (who nobody is making any fuss about) we can say goodbye to Audi A4s A6s, BMW 320Ds, Ford Mondeo, Kuga, Focus, Mercedes, Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Octavia, Superb, VW Golf, Tiguan Passat up to 2015 and many more.

With Nox tax the likes of a 2015 humble Focus will attract a Nox tax of 2735 euro on top of VRT of 1800 euro, wiping out any saving. Likewise for the above listed cars up to 2015 even 2017 with some.

Why isn't anyone objecting against this?

Yes I understand it's being marketed as environmental but if the government wanted to improve our air quality they would change to electric buses and provide better incentives for public transport. Apply a penalty for car use within city zones.

Not all of us can afford a low Nox diesel and in Ireland diesel will always be more suitable for some living in remote areas.

I believe this NOx tax is in effect an import tax that the SIMI were lobbying the government for. Do the SIMI not know that the majority of independent garages rely on imports?

    What's your viewpoint?

Thanks, I didn't really want to change it out but I miss the BT option. Fortunately, I have found an adapter that works with the CD30 aux mode and will give me BT for my media so I'm happy with a €20 fix.

Anyone have experience upgrading a stock head unit in a Corsa D (or equivalent Opel). My unit is the CD30 that supports MP3 via CD and Aux-In but has no native Bluetooth and I'd love to buy an easy stock upgrade from a different model (such as a CD40/CD50). Thanks!
    This any good to you?

It depends on how dirty the car is in terms of nox.

Ya I'm in the same boat.

Is there any handy-ish sort of way to see the figures and how different cars will be effected?

2014 140bhp cdti insignia and a Bmw f30 330d would be two I could do with finding out about.

The Irish Government will rely on this official website
    https://carfueldata.vehicle-certification-agency.gov.uk/

Therefore the Insignia 2.0 CDTi 140PS Design NAV ecoFLEX Stop/Start with 17" wheels will have 126mg/km

    Charged as follows
    0 to 60 x 5 euro= 300 euro
    61 to 80 x 15 euro = 300 euro
    81 to 126 x 25 euro = 1,150

    Total NOx charge 1,750 euro

This is on top of the VRT

Definitely going to kill off many of the imports....

Do no harm though having vehicles coming in with better environmental impact...

Yes but as an avid cyclist....(awaits angry motorists rants about cyclists)......the most polluting vehicles in cities are buses and lorries.

What have the Government done about thus?........indirectly bought a fleets of brand new diesel buses for Dublin bus!

And what are they suppose to use? You can hardly expect them to be electric as they would take a long time to charge the amount of battery packs needed for a bus.

You would do one route and have to charge up for the next.

    You are very ill informed!

Ehm.....London currently has 200 fully electric buses with a 250km range (that's for a double decker bus too!)

London also has about 1,000 hybrid buses and plan to have a fully zero emmissions fleet within the M25 by 2037.

What are the Governments plans to get these dirty polluting buseses off the city streets?............by attributing to buy a fleet of brand new dirty diesel buses?

No harm on the UK import thing might mean you will be able to get a decent trade in price for your can now. Rather than being undercut because there are truck loads of the same car coming in weekly from the uk priced lower. Most of the stuff coming in from the UK in recent times is crap spec anyway. All the Audis are Sport models with horrible seats rather than S-Line, VWs are mid spec comfort lines generally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,541 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Sure the BYD metroline London electric buses supposedly have a 250km range.

    Edit, basically what Dia said

They have a lot more money than us.

What about the rest of their larger cities?

Everything after the SG model is to be hybrids.

The SG puts out is it 16 times less nox then a golf.
Nearly sure that's the figure. It was mentioned before so hopefully I got the figure right.

I doubt anything will change in that regard TBH.
It'll only effect pre2015 stuff mainly .... 5+ years old from Jan..... There's still likely to be plenty fresher stuff imported.

Please don't ever go into a debate or politics or business because that was an awful reply!

Scotland adopted electric buses back in 2015 when batteries were more expensive and the tech was not as advanced and have upgraded to newer tech longer range buses since.

This is Scotland NOT London! If Scotland can introduce fully electric buses why can't Ireland??

    https://planetradio.co.uk/mfr/local/news/scotland-first-electric-buses-launched-inverness/

Atleast the NTA are trialing hybrid buses this year!

They buy up many of db fleet.

19 of the 2005 vt which were the longest and could carry the most as it had 3 axles were shipped straight over the water to be used in the UK.

Many previous such as RA, RV and AV and so on are used over there for many more years.

I didn't realize this was a debate. Foolish me thinking it was a public forum.
