The bridgeway would have to be 18 ft by 7ft to be similar square footage to the tuffmac 16ft by 8ft

I'm aware of that, but honestly I'd nearly prefer the 16 x 7 as a size behind my 390T but the Tuffmac is only available in 8ft widths.

I think there is an 18x7 Bridgeway but I'm currently leaning towards the Tuffmac just for the Aluminum body.

    Yes,

    Bridgeway €6,500
    Tuffmac €10,300

The aluminum floor and sheeting in the Tuffmac is a big plus though.

I think the lynch 18 ft was 14k all in.

Do Bluemount in Cavan still make 'em? A bit like the Bridgeway trailers.

I take it €6,300 was for that second hand Bridgeway? What is their new cost?

    6500 new delivered to yard

Was that running on single or twin axles?

Single with double wheels I'm fairly sure.

Has to be value in that for a 'farmers ' trailer
Not either in mart or factory every day. Surely if washed out it would last the finest!

Certainly is good value, but an aluminum trailer would probably be the last cattle trailer I'd ever buy. Also the higher speed rating would future proof it a bit better.

Is that an error on the DoneDeal advert?

Full range of TuffMac Trailers available from GERETY FARM MACHINERY LTD,

Livestock trailer range includes sizes: 16X7,18X7,16X8,18X8,20X8,22X8,24X8,26X8

It's not an error, it's just 16x7 and 18x7 are not Tuffmac. They are other livestock trailers available from Gerety

That's misleading to say the least!

Meh, hardly the most misleading add I've seen on Done Deal, I'd say poorly written rather than intentionaly misleading.

Yeah, that would have been a better way to put it.

Anyway, I'm waiting on a price from them for a 16 x 7 similar to the Bridgeway but clad with Aluminum so will be interesting to see the price on that.

Did you try Whites? Just down the road from Geraghty and anytime we've gotten anything off them they've been the cheapest around.

No, their website shows mostly Ifor Williams Jeep trailers in the livestock section, but might be worth a call.

I have no idea on the price, but I'm guessing it would be towards the upper end, as they look to be a well finished trailer. They may well be as competitive as any of the others....

I have to say I would find a bridge way hard to live with simply because of the way the wheels are boxed into the inside of the body of the trailer.

Tuffmac jeep trailers are very popular locally and seem to be reasonably priced compared to other makes. They don't appear to be overly strong from what I've seen but would probably be comparable to the likes of an Ivor Williams or similar. I've yet to encounter a tractor drawn version although to be fair the trailer in the add looks to be a fine job. With the prospect of weigh restrictions on jeeps being more closely enforced in future along with the ever increasing cost of diesel and the day to day running costs of a jeep there might be merit in a tractor trailer. Having said that tractor trailers are a rarity locally and most of the few tractors I see at the marts are only pulling ordinary 12" or 14" jeep trailers.

Have a tuffmac 12 x 6 here. In terms of strength they are a mile ahead of an ifor but are not as well finished.

OK. They are different to what I had in mind so. They look a nice trailer enough and at €6300 look value too.

If going for a new livestock trailer these days for the Jeep would you better off buy a 14 x 6 over say a 12 x 6 ?

Move space, I’m aware of towing limits etc but I suppose you wouldn’t have to fill it.

    Would I be right in saying a 14 x 6 hold about 4 cows and calves and a 12 x 6 would hold about 3 cows and calves ?

Perhaps I'm being overly critical of the Tuffmac, there definitely very popular and seem good value compared to other makes. Having said that I know a few lads that haul lots of heavy cattle and the Tuffmac got very tired looking faster than I expected. Granted the same lads wouldn't be the easiest on gear.

Yes the 14" should hold 4 fair teams with reasonable ease. If you can resist the temptation to load it to the hilt then it would be a better job in a way. By this I mean you'd have more scope to separate weaker stock especially on longer journeys. The major drawback apart from the possibility to overload would be that it's 2" longer and harder handled. If you put a long wheel based jeep in front of it your into the length and width of a good sized lorry.
