Just purchased, looking forward to it now

The interview with Catriona Crowe on their RTÉ show is well worth listen. I never heard of her before but she’s a great guest - smart, funny and interesting. I’d say Ken enjoyed the conversation that continued off air

(Nothing to do with sport, by the way)

Mid summer and they are at 11.4K patreon subscribers.

So much for the doom and gloomers predicting they would suffer.

Also that is a lot of money they are making. They each should be getting a salary of over 100k a year!

I'm sure they are doing well financially but doubt they are making that level of profit. Rent, overheads, contributors all cost a lot of money

Plus profits from merchandise, events, and whatever RTE is paying them :)

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Plus articles in papers. Some TV.

Well gross would put them around 650,000e a year. Their studio is tiny but add that guest costs and miscellaneous lets say that takes away a generous 150,000e so 500,000e net. That would be 100,000 gross pay each.

With Eoin on de telly with Premier Sports every Saturday in a few weeks time, I wonder at what point might side projects become the main event for one or more the SC gang. IIRC, Eoin did some compere work on Setanta a few years back, and I remember thinking he was very good, and would eventually turn up in such a role on RTE. Of course, I forgot the most vital part of one's resume for a job in RTE, which is a relative (at least one) in RTE.

I've always wondered about contributors. Maybe it's just the noseyness in me but I'd be intrigued to hear what kind of money say, Malachy Clerkin would command for his segment after the golf.

What number have they peaked at? To me that seems quite low, certainly I'd guess its a very low percentage of the people who were downloading prior to them going down a subscription model.
Do they fund any of Early's trips abroad for football tournaments or is that paid by his other work? That could be expensive.
100k net is a good salary no doubt, but these days a lot of 9-5ers in IT etc would make that. Wouldnt turn it down myself mind you!

They were below 10K for a good while so seems to be rising. You're never going to match numbers for free shows, there initial aim was 8-10k I think. The IT pay for Ken to head to any matches I think, they did for the WC last year definitely.

11.4K sub's is as high as I've seen it.
There are bound to be costs associated with guests and production etc but even a salary or 70 or 80 k a year producing less than 5 hours of content a week while being your own bosses beats the crap outta any 9-5 IT etc role. Fair play to them.

That David Epstein one didn't grab my attention. Ended up skipping to the end.

A load of sub dropoffs right at the end of the month. Is that a viable way to get around the subscription? Seems like a lot of work for saving €6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Not really. Sub is taken out as soon as you reregister.

Id imagine its lapsed credit cards or banking issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,139 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Yeah, I used to listen to a smaller podcast and he was always telling people to update their card details.

One thing I can say is the money I spend on second captains is money well spent. They have been doing this for so long they have it down to a fine art, but no doubt lots of hours are spent behind the scenes.

Completely agree. I'd love it as a job myself.

I stopped paying when the pods went bad at the start of the summer. Still show in my feed so won’t complain!

The Murph-as-Meath-fan clips still crack me up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,957 ✭✭✭Dots1982

If Ken got an interview with Robbie keane and asked him the questions the daily mail journalist did...actually that just wouldn’t happen so interesting he totally defended the right of the journo to ask questions exclusively about singing, Christmas parties and decade old fights with Edgar Davids.

Murph’s protestations were batted away and unfortunately he lacked the backbone to fight his corner.

Robbie keane always gives the slight impression to me of being a bit of a big time Charlie but couldn’t blame him here.

Jesus, Michael Duignan (sp?) says so much but literally says nothing at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭RedRochey

I thought Duignan was terrible yesterday, took everything very seriously and is always on about what he said or thought the last week, on about how he said Noel McGrath would be key this weekend and then he got man of the match, as if he needs to validate his analysis

As bad and all as he was, not as bad as McGrath and O'Cusack on the Sunday Game, talking complete squirt about sweepers. Apparently you're a Tan if you question the efficacy of the sweeper system, according to Donal Og.

But yeah, Duignan was as awful as ever. Who do you go to for decent hurling analysis in this country? It feels like everyone who might have something to offer is terrified of being the class swot.

Brian Hogan persisting with the auld nonsense that Cody and KK would never stoop so low as to soil themselves with tactics (spit), before giving a fairly detailed tactical breakdown of how he played for KK. Why this pathological horror at the suggestion that a great hurling team would tailor their play to exploit an opponent's weakness? So, so strange.
