Really enjoyed the Richard Dunne interview. He was very interesting to listen to.

Dunne is far more intelligent than I had anticipated, fair play to him, really good listen. Ken's annual Arseblog appearance is always a good listen too, despite the wannabe gameshow host voiced presenter!

Dunne is always great. No airs or graces.

I must say, I am looking forward to Ken's analysis of Frank Lampard during the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,139 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

If I had a euro for everytime Cienciano mentioned that he had no interest in GAA on this forum I would have enough to subscribe to Second Captains for a few months.

I'm going to start listening just to spite you :pac:

I've had that Bayern Munich song in my head all week after I felt compelled to Google it after Ken's description.

Love the podcast, but I do feel that Ken has too much of an unhealthy hard on for David Luiz.. Just because they both share the same hair-style.

I presume Ken is over in Sligo tonight, in the VIP lounge: https://sligohub.com/sligo-summer-festival-august-2019-line-up/

I guess here's as good a place to post this as any due to the crossover. Has anyone signed up to The Athletic? I'm halfway through the free trial. Seems *ok*' , a few interesting articles, particularly Adam Crafton's that I enjoyed. If I don't unsubscribe I'll pay a fiver a month or something. Doesn't seem to be a massive amount of daily content. I'm seeing some of the journalists have affiliate links for half that price. Can I just cancel my trial and sign up through one of them? Anyone done this?

I signed up last week as it was 50% for the year. Some good stuff on it but still finding its feet a bit, £30 for the year is a great price though

Yeah, kinda feel the same. Half price seems decent, but I don't think I could justify the whole thing.

Signed up for the months trial last week. Some interesting pieces (Norwich fans journey to Anfield, the long road to Anfield, Arsenal's best kit, Newcastle fan protest) but nothing you wouldn't read in the football section of The Guardian regularly enough. The mobile app landing page has lots of US content too, which is annoying. Don't think I'll be paying once trial finishes 6.13 a month to the lads is enough for my sports journalism I think.

Had a hearty chuckle at Ken's piece on Ole's response to being asked about Pogba.

"If Pogba comes into your office saying he wants to move to Real Madrid, just roll a ball along the floor to him and he'll be after it."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,436 ✭✭✭Beersmith

Very US centric alright. Stupid you HAVE to pick a favourite team. I don't have one!
I prefer pods to reading articles so just cancelled my 7 day trial.

GAA Coverage - I really like Oisin Mc and Mike Quirke but I'd love a bit more indepth analysis on the Mayo malfunction other than "they should have just slowed the game down". I think Murph's absence was felt here (sometimes maligned on this thread ;)). Just give us a few real examples from the game that provide a bit more insight than me or the person in the pub would.

Go listen to the GAA hour then

    I'm actually learning listening

I thought his comment was fair enough. I still enjoyed the pod though and their analysis but it is fair enough if he thinks they could do with being more in depth than saying someone should feign a head injury. Surprised Eoin didn't say anything about the dangers of people feigning head injuries.

My post came across wrong. Was actually in agreement. The learning bit was in reference to the GAA hour. It's GAA analysis far outstrips second captains at the moment.

I was in agreement with the poster I quoted. Just made a hames of it.

If you can prove you haven’t listened to any of the gaa podcasts can you get a partial refund from second captains/patreon ?

    What do you think?

    Of course not.

Thankfully it's mainly just limited to a couple of months of the year. Probably the only sport that I couldn't bear listening to on Second Captains.

You know you are a tightarse if you are looking for a refund of €0.63 cent or whatever arbitrary amount out of your fiver a month subscription for 24 hours or so of content

I wouldn’t mind paying the full €5 if there were 4-5 football podcasts in addition to the gaa podcast... but the fact that there is only 2 dedicated football podcasts and a gaa podcast ...its basically an insane setup....

I would say less then 5% of subscribers listen to the gaa podcast.... it’s like running a bus service where nobody lives.... hence: insane setup
