Agreed bringing a family to 4 round robin games and then a Munster final would see you put a serious dent in €1,000. People have to pick and choose , just frustrated that I won't be able to watch the Clare/Cork game live when the technology is there. a) RTE have live streamed before and b) there will be cameras and commentary teams there.
Yeah, I'm afraid the high prices mean many families and neutrals can't justify attending these games.

As a younger single man I don't have the same responsibilities but even then if you want a few drinks beforehand all adds up. Minimum 20 euro a ticket. Sure the pubs in Clones raised their prices to near 5 euro a pint the past few weekends. And then back to 3 something during the week. Rip off Ireland but whats new. Then 5 euro at least to park your car somewhere. Few quid if you want food. Petrol or bus fare. Programme if you can spare it.
And thats just one person at one game. Have that several weekends runnning and your wallet will be empty.

Yeah crazy scheduling from the GAA.
You would swear GAA/RTE/SKY are not on speaking terms, and the GAA does this to annoy the broadcasters.

I would assume Sky would have have wanted Mayo or Monaghan games, RTE put them on at 7pm same time as Munster Final on RTE, so Sky threw a tantrum and said they wouldn't show any!!

    laughable

We don't know that, i assume SKY would have some say in the sceduling?

Maybe us lot in such forums are in the minority but as gaelic football fans these are huge games in our national sport. On average and by statistics the players in these qualiers are putting in 30 something hours per week for their counties on top of full time jobs, they deserve the limelight and we deserve to see the action - either live or on demand. I'd pay good money - say 150-200 euro for live or on demand coverage of all games in the SFC. These games are do or die for another year - everyone deserves better marketing and a better entertainment product. The way such games are marketed by the GAA is shocking by it's absence! The organisation is seriously underselling its own product.

True but the counties also need to improve their marketing if they want fans to turn up for their games. Some county's are happy to get knocked out early. Some of those qualifiers wouldn't even break 5000 supporters between both teams.

Its hard to believe a statement like this!

There are roughly over 300 live games on TV per year. The coverage the GAA gets for itself is exceptional especially when you compare it to other sports in this country. Add to that roughly 2 highlights shows per week, 100 per year, re-runs, classic matches - preview shows - radio coverage - its saturation! Yet people in the GAA still complain about the coverage it gets. I can't understand it. People won't be happy until every single game , league and championship is either on TV or streamed. There are articles in the mainstream media this week lamenting the lack of midweek GAA games - ignoring the fact that most GAA players have to work for a living, and they only exist to entertain us!

Try being an amateur athlete in literally any other sport in Ireland and look at the coverage they garner for themselves and their sports - then come back and complain about GAA coverage.

I'm not saying the GAA doesn't deserve the media coverage it gets. But its definitely disproportionate to what other sports gets - if you really want to see a game - get up off your arse and go! I know a good few people off to Ennis this Sunday that otherwise wouldn't be going!

My point is not made in relation to media coverage or pages in national newspapers, rather it's about marketing carried out by the GAA itself. In agreement that Cricket Ireland or the League of Ireland would bite your hand off for the free advertisement the GAA get every day in this country. On your point that people like me won't be happy until every game is live or streamed or available on demand - tongue in check but absolutely yes - if there's a camera at the match for highlights why not put the full game or extended highlights (full game if less editing is involved) on the official GAA YouTube channel or on GAAGO the following Wednesday after a game.

But sure the most effective form of marketing is TV and radio minutes - maybe in terms of social media some counties are more effective than others but I'm not altogether sure it has too much of a knock on effect on attendances, awareness etc. An all encompassing streaming service is surely not too far away in any case.

What games on tv / online this weekend ?

    According to HoganStand:

    Saturday
LSHC Wexford v Kilkenny 7pm - Sky Sports
LSHC Dublin v Galway 7pm - Sky Sports
JM Cup Kerry v Offaly 3pm - GAANow
JM Cup Laois v Westmeath 3pm - GAANow

    Sunday
    MSHC Tipperary v Limerick 2pm - RTÉ
    CSFC Roscommon v Galway 4pm - RTÉ

Not sure how Sky are doing the two 7pm's today, if they're showing both on two channels or picking one closer to time.

I didn’t see any mention during week of Galway v Dublin being shown live

I’d say it’s only Kilkenny Wexford game that’s on Sky

I've seen it mentioned across a few places that Galway v Dublin being shown on sky. Wonder is there anywhere we can validate this. Surely they have capacity with all their channels and red button option too.

When Sky announced their fixtures at the start of the year, they had included a football qualifier for Sat 22 June. Anyone any idea as to what they are showing? Presume it cant be a 7pm game as RTE are showing the Munster final then?

Keeping their powder dry and going to use their allocation in later round of qualifiers when likely to be better and more high profile games. Makes perfect sense if you ask me.

There are 3 provincial football finals live on RTE this weekend. That's more than enough for the vast majority of football fans and Sky realise this.

Well football fans have not exactly been inundated with coverage of late have they?

I agree but from Sky's point of view everyone will be watching the provincial finals so viewing figures would be poor.

Of course the smart thing would have been to split the games better between last weekend and this.

Yes, and they could have shown a 5pm game this Saturday.

You'd have to imagine that either 7pm qualifier will be better than the walkover we'll see in Killarney/Tralee.

There are 7 counties playing this Saturday, that because of Skys "business" decision, will now not get an opportunity to play in a telivised game again this year.
