Diesel auto, NCT till December - €500!

    I'd love this

It has powerfold mirrors, xenons and cruise control at a minimum, so it's fairly high spec as ZTs go. The automatic gearbox on them is generally bulletproof and the only trouble the engines give is needing a replacement MAF sensor & the thermostat sticking open (so the engine runs cool, they never overheat).

Nice looking 09 C30 diesel. Tested till the end of the year and cheap tax. High enough miles but even still it looks nice enough, very clean

This just shows how ****ty the French 1.6 hdi is with proper servicing... 320000km...

Granted, as you said, it's high miles, but that's a good price for what it is!
    Another great find :D

Lovely to see a car with FSH, long test and modern low tax in Bangernomics.

Grand looking car I've liked line of Volvo hatch for a long time, but engine wise I'd need a bit more grunt

They might not be too bad. Sure I seen an estate Passat today with a 1.6 diesel in it. Seemed a mad combination given the size of the car body. Presumably the unit in the Volvo is from the Ford Focus? What are they like reliability wise anyone know?

While its not a bad looking car the proportions towards the rear in particular seem a bit off to me. But hey its bangernomics not a beauty contest. Seems to be on for good money. To note it is a UK import....probably at least half the cars for sale on Donedeal are at this stage though.

I let this go today for €400. The one and only caller I got took a bus from Dublin to KK and bought it. Tax and age related insurance rip off has all these descent yolks condemned to the scrap yard. Still, no point in it sitting around here. Glad somebody will get some use out of it.

I know the T5 version has the same engine as the Focus ST, so I'd imagine it's the same, or similar 1.6D in this.

I've always fancied these, I think they look great. The back seats are desperate, though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,720 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

That 1.6D engine in the Volvo is used in so many cars at this stage including Citroen, C2, C3, C4, Picasso, Ford Fiesta, Fusion, Focus, C-Max, Mazdas, Peugeots and various Volvos, not to forget the Mini also, and I think the Suzuki SX4!

We really have reached the days where car manufacturers no longer develop their own engines really. They all source more or less the same engine and tune it to suit their own needs, or just bang it in using stock build

That's a sin really. When you think of what €400 will buy you these days, it's terrible to see that's all you got, as it looked absolutely immaculate

At least it's nice to see somebody else get use from it though and that it didn't go down the scrapyard route ;)

MK1 Focus values are terminally low; I've never done good with them, even 5/6 years ago they always took an age to sell. Saloons more so than hatchbacks too. However, your buyer emeldc got a total bargain, says a lot that they took a bus from Dublin.

Disclaimer; per my earlier post, this is my car.

Its getting tested Thursday evening. I fully expect it to pass, so I have taken the liberty of saying tested until May '20.
Any callers will be made aware of this.

Shameless excuse to plug my advert.
I brought it for the NCT this evening.
As expected, passed with zero issues!
I washed it before hand and removed the kids seats and banana skins.

Any idea what are the 2.2 engine like in these compared to say the rover/mg zt 2.0 which seems to get some good reviews, tax is manageable I think, just.

Ford engine I'm nearly sure. Injectors give problems in them assuming it is the same engine the mondeo used.

yep pretty much everything in there is ford bar a few other parts.

I have a 2.0D Xtype for a few years, love it.

She did have her injectors replaced, and the DMF tends to go wonky on them. aside of that she was a lovely cheap motor to run.

    '02 Avensis 1.6
    NCT June '19
    Tax Nov '19
    139k miles

It's technically not bangernomics as its only got 2 months test, but because it looks so clean, has a heap of tax and is cheaper than a dodgy suit I figured I'd stick it up.

    Asking €300

The tax alone is worth €300, so it's effectively a free car.

    Well worth a look so.

damn, was looking for an excuse to get it, a good long nct, offset the extra tax, looks clean and appears to have a massive boot, have an 01 octavia and can't fault it, fingers crossed, utterly reliable, very tempted by recent suggestions, the saloon mg zt is nice and an older previous estate version which is still for sale but owner doesn't look like they are shifting on the price, which I think is too high. would like something nicer looking, but its difficult to find something to replace the octavia.

    '02 Civic 1.4
    NCT July '19
84k Miles. Need to tread carefully with that, could be legit I suppose.
    Asking €575

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/honda-civic-nct-tested/21311471

Is there actually any point in posting the likes of this as a bangernomics option any more, considering the difficulties people seem to have insuring anything over 10/15 years old?
It's not a problem for me as I have driven old cars for over 10 years and I haven't switched insurer in that time, I always pay around €600 no matter what I'm driving.
From a bangernomics perspective, the tax thing is subjective. Some people choose to pay high tax and it doesn't bother them. But insurance is actually stopping alot, possibly a majority, of people from driving older cars they otherwise would have bought. So with that in mind, is the likes of that Civic worth posting?
Its technically bangernomics, but only for a minority of people in a position to insure it. It's arguably not practical bangernomics anymore.

I looked at that, considered snapping that up today just to get me back on the road while I look for something better. Rang my insurance company and they won't quote me.

I'm a male approaching mid 40's by the way. They won't insure anything older than 04 for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,720 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

Not all the insurance companies have a 10 year or 15 year limit in place, so at the end of the day, it ticks all boxes!
    Keep throwing them up here

Also, the high tax of older cars, is why you are getting some absolute gorgeous cars for half nothing, so yeah, they belong in bangernomics too

I know I can get insurance, but its with existing company, but a quick Google tells me Liberty Insurance take cars up to 20 years old, and there are others also.

    Might be worth a shot

In regards to both of these Diesels, is there an ideal amount of mileage a week one should be doing before considering one, or if the car was brought out on one reasonably long enough drive a week would that be enough ?
