Barr has been drawn in lane 2 unfortunately. His SB wasn’t fast enough to be seeded for the outside lanes. He may qualify but if he does it will likely be as a fastest loser and therefore lane 1 or 2 in semi final. Hope I’m wrong.

Just seen the startlist there, he drew the short straw with Warholm there as well.

Runner in front of him tripped and then Greene fell over him.

Got bumped out the back. Tried to come back and fell over runner in front of him who tripped.

Re Barr. I thought he would’ve in the mix a bit more?

    Quote from Gregan yesterday:
"Indoor running is unique, especially the 400m. It's the only event where you run balls out for the first 200m and swim home."

Barr does not really have the acceleration to get out in front at 200m. His strength in 400 hurdles is the last 100m. Just not suited to indoor 400.
    Hindsight is great isn't it.

Disappointed with Cléirigh Büttner's run there with some weak enough times getting through 2.04 being a small q. Having come from the states with a 2.02 pb I would have like to have seen her take it out hard.

    That’s a great quote.

    Jakob Inger on now.

Going to be very tight for Healy to qualify. Currently 3rd fastest loser, two heats to go (4 fastest qualify). And heat 7 looks pretty stacked based on the startlist

    very dissapointing.

Looks like Healy will be lucky to make the semis. Still 2 heats to go and she is placed 3rd in 4 fastest to go through.

Barr was poor enough. Looks like Greene was unlucky.

I'm not in any way well up on this but most of the heats are being run in close to 24.x/29 laps. Is that the best way for them to run a 53?

Probably not an ideal way to run 53,buts its a 400m race on 200m track, getting out in front and hanging on is what its all about

a small q for Healy. **** lane for the semi's guaranteed

The 400 indoor is a race that's all about tactics and position. They are not really going for times but trying to Q. Get out in front and people have to try get around them which is hard work on tight tracks with short straights.

What about Jakob running a European U20 record after running a 1500 earlier this morning. crazy stuff.

Gotcha. Just did some googling of outdoor 400m splits. Looking at Merritt, Van Niekerk, Kirani James and The Man with the Golden Shoes splits on their fastest races shows there are many ways to skin a cat alright.

Just watched the last lap again, he was about .5s faster than the leaders on the last lap. he could have been a bit braver and gone with the pace on the 2nd last lap.

Only 1 second outside his PB so he ran hard I'd say. The leaders were only doing enough as they knew 4 were going through. They'd shut it down.

Strong run for him, didn't think he'd take 5th in that heat.

What are the main races to look forward to in the evening session? Laura Muir in the 3K, must be a strong favourite.

That race should be a gem. It'll be tight as Kontanze Klosterhalfen is just as good a Muir and with Muir running the 1500 heats as well, I'd give Koko the very slight favourite tag in the 3k against Muir.

Had she nothing left or did she think she had qualified? There didn't seem to be a huge effort to get into the first two...
