Great stuff B and great to hear the pain of the race again! What was the ceremony like?! Sounds like a very unique race!

Cheers P, ceremony was pretty low key, few hung around for it but the crowd was mostly made up of winners in the respective race distances. Nice trophy and won my entry fee back to.

That’s the third set of stairs, there is another 20-30 odd steps at the top that you can’t see there.

Crikey, fair play! Sounds like a very tricky race - you did brilliantly! Must be nice to stand on a podium too :P Congratulations!

    Week 5/10 - CPC 5k by AD

    Monday 28.1.19

    Rest Day

    Tuesday 29.1.19

    8.15 miles Easy@8.20min/miles in 67mins 54secs

Out through the dunes to Kijkduin and onto the scene of Sunday's race in Ockenburgh, there was no stairs ran on today though!! Back home via Mozartlaan, very cold out.

    Wednesday 20.1.19

    2 mile w/u, 5X600m@5k(150m rec) + 10x200m@5k(100m rec), 2mile c/d

Out after dropping the wee one to playschool and the snow had already started. It got heavier as i made my way towards the running paths where i was doing my session. No hanging around and straight into the 600's after my warm up, goal for these was 2.10-2.12. Snow was a bitch stinging the eyes as i ran these, falling heavier as i done them. Reps were as follows:

    2.10.39, 2.11.85, 2.10.27, 2.11.77, 2.09.15.

All felt controlled, 30 second breather and into 200's, goal for these again 40-42 secs:

    40.60, 41.44, 41.17, 42.23, 40.89, 42.05.

Canned it after 6 as the paths were lethal at that point, the snow was freezing more or less as it hit the ground and i took a big slide on the last one. Cool down brought total to 7.50 miles for morning. Went downhill rapidly as day went on!!

    Thursday 31.1.19

Sick, horrible cold!!! Young lad attained his National A Swimming Diploma so super proud Mam and Dad!!

    Friday 1.2.19

Sick, managed to inflict the young lad with my dose, on his birthday weekend:(:(:(.

    Saturday 2.2.19

Sick, day on the couch with eldest, much better patient than his Dad:o:o.

    Sunday 3.2.19

    Still sick, not much improvement..

Grand total of 15.65 miles for the week, not what i want but these things happen. Not a man that usually gets sick so i was due my turn i suppose.

I hope you get over the bug soon. Has it improved since then?

    Monday 4.2.19

    Sick.

    Tuesday 5.2.19

    Sick........

    Wednesday 6.2.19

Bit better, light at end of the tunnel maybe!!

    Thursday 7.2.19

Much improved but won't risk a run yet......

In other news, with time off due to illness i have thought about my plan for rest of year. Have definitely ruled out running a marathon, normally this time of year i'm chomping at the bit to get into marathon training, not the case this year. I think Koln and DCM in space of 3 weeks last October took more out of me than i realised so hence zero desire to get back into bigger mileage.

I plan on doing the Amsterdam Half in October as my big goal for the year, try knock 2/3 minutes off that if possible. Will race as much as i can over 5/10k before i start a plan for that at end of July.

Cheers, improvement past few days S, not 100% yet but better than the weekend.

I should have waited for the next weeks report before jumping in with that!

Does the absence of a marathon in your plan for the year mean that you are passing up on your pacing gig in DCM?

It does and to be honest that was the hardest part of deciding not to run a marathon this year. I may or may not get asked but if I do i’ll be turning it down. I can always say I paced it once anyway.

Thanks, he’s a strong little swimmer and really enjoys it. Has improved hugely since we moved over here.

Have you a target in mind for that 5k? What kind of numbers enter that race? The 10k is quite big isn't it?

Anything lower than 18.25 and i’ll be happy but not to confident I will be in that kind of shape in 4 weeks. 4,500 in the 5k last year, 8,000+ ran the 10k so big numbers for that length of race.
