Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi everyone, i'm on the current ML for 1710 campaign but decided to apply for this round just as a back up, incase they don't exhaust the 1710 merit list. Really don't fancy doing the AC again LOL

What bracket on the 1710 ML are you in? I'm in the same boat but hopeful for both.

I’m 690-700 I’ve received an email last week saying I’ll be progressing to the PSNI managed stages but still waiting for a PCA date. It’s a weird area of the ML to be in, I get the feeling I could just scrape into one of the last intakes or I could still be binned, who knows.

I'm between 710 and 740 myself. I'm remaining hopeful however from what I've read in the other forums I'm optimistic about this ml position. ML for 1710 didn't come out until June and I'm hoping that we're appointed by that time this year 8f you get me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭nickolatte94

ill feel better once I get a PCA date, I feel they will be less inclined to bin me if they’ve spent money and resources putting through the psni stages LOL

    Or at least appointable :D

Fair point. If one looks at how long it took for even the fast tracked folks from 1710 to get appointable we should be in with a good shout. Another go with previous AC experience can't hurt our chances tho!

If all goes to plan we should receive an email tomorrow that contains a link that will let you access the IST.

  • Registered Users Posts: 57 ✭✭Cbm27

Update on the PSNI website. Links for the IST are being issued in batches today. Good luck everyone!

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭nickolatte94

Makes sense, the IST kept crashing last year, probably too many people trying to do it at once.

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Lockie101

Its Live now folks, I was expecting the email to be like “IST in 2 weeks” but nope... its open now! They are really trying to push through this campaign aren’t they

  • Registered Users Posts: 90 ✭✭E18

Is everyone going to do it straight away? How long Is the period in order to complete it. Kids off for half term and don't think I'm going to get much quiet time to do it lol

Until the 20th I think, I am not in the slightest prepared so I will be leaving it until next week! Like I said, I wasn’t expecting it to start today but rather to get an email saying it starts in a few weeks

  • Registered Users Posts: 90 ✭✭E18

Aw perfect if that's the case.. don't feel prepared at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 Chas18

Hi all , I’m in the same boat I assumed it would be live in a week or so form the email link, I think I will leave it until next week for some piece an quite , has anyone any tips on the IST I have went over the ones on the site and a few others kenexa, but it’s suited for ibm

I registered on the first day that it opened yet my UID number is 8XXX, there can't have been that many people registering on the first day unless everyone in NI has applied for the police lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Lockie101

I applied at 9:05am on launch day of the campaign and my UID has no reflection on the number of candidates, unlike last year which it did. Last year there was numbers of about 10K applicants if my memory serves me right but the numbers seem to be randomly allocated this year to avoid anyone from guessing UID’s or whatever I guess

    Interesting...
Hopefully we will know results in December then?

Think they just continued on from the 1710 ones

    Never mind me...
I've just received the email with all the info.. eager beaver.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 182 ✭✭BlueCop8790

Anyone did the IST yet ? If so, how was it ? I’m holding off until next week to do mine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭jwhdkl5736

Good luck to everyone taking the IST over the next few weeks. The prize is worth the work. Really read and understand your core competencies and behaviours - you’ll need to have a strong grasp of them in order to choose the ‘best fit’ answer in your situational judgement test element. It’s only ‘easy’ if you can apply that knowledge

I really want to get it out of the way but at the same time I want to do a bit more practice but feel like its just one of those tests where you are either going to get it or you're not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 djs1990

Well that's the IST done, now you're not meant to talk about it, so all I'll say is it's hard to know if you given the right answers for some, cause you could justify more than one of the answers :ermm:

I still haven't brought myself to do it yet.

    Top tip folks:

If you ever feel like you can justify more that one answer, remember, one is a better fit of the core competencies. Learn your competencies people. You aren’t looking for the “right” answer. You’re looking for the answer they want - best matching the competencies. I can’t stress this enough.

Helpful advice. Is there anywhere where the competencies are actually listed to read over?

Nothing that hasn’t already been said, take your time and read the questions and choose the best answer! Make sure to read each option thorougherly before jumping to conclusions

Was the IST smoother this time round ? No lagging or freezing moving from one question to another ?

It's practicing the verbal reasoning that's holding me back from doing it at the minute, My head just doesn't seem to get the true false cannot tell. for eg when a passage says they must do etc... and the question is something like they try their best to .. I want to click true, but its automatically false as have to and try to are not the same... i'm ok with the logic when i have time to read the passage through at my own pace but under time constraints I speed read and I miss all those little key words that make the difference... Feel like the more practice I do the less I want to do the Ist! The sjt still isn't 100% but I can work those better than verbal reasoning...

Went to try it this morning and i've just said nope to myself again... maybe go for it in a few days.

Thanks JaneDoe. My phone isn't displaying properly and has Chinese symbols instead of the regular so I can't quote.

The test was quick but actually harder than what I was expecting. I used my watch for timing. Hopefully I'm allowed to say this but my approach was actually different to what I was expecting myself to do; I was thinking that I would read the paragraphs then the questions but instead did it the other way around.

I was nervous which was strange because I don't regularly get nervous about things like that. I had a glass of water beside me and a quiet house but still was worried that I would have to go for a nervous pee.

The test said completed but I still wish we had the reassurance of an email confirmation.

I feel exactly the same! All we can do is practice and try and see where we're going wrong. Still a while to go till the 20th!

That's true! It's just the feeling of getting it out of the way, but I'd say at this rate i'm going it will prob be closer when the assessment closes.

In practice questions I have been doing it both ways, when I read the questions first and skim read for the answer it is def quicker but often I miss a sentence further down that tries to trick you or makes it then be a different answer if that makes sense, where as I pick up more info reading the whole thing and then looking at questions but this slows me down... the joys lol

What are we like! Roll on Next month.

Decided to complete the IST today, now for the dreaded wait. Honestly it’s difficult to say how I’ve done, I know I got at least one wrong on the VRT as I seen the answer for it on the following question, also as another boardie said it’s hard as you can justify more than one answer on the SJT but it’s out of my hands now. Good luck to those still to do it!

Good Luck! you sat last campaigns too, didn't you? Was it pretty much the same style of IST?

Thank you ! Yeah, I managed to get through the IST last year. I found it to be excatly the same format as last year.

It is a long wait but at least you have the IST done so you know you tried your best and there's nothing left to do until December.

You'll probably feel better just getting it over with. It takes it off your mind and instead you get to focus on the wait :'( but knowing that you tried.
