Are we thinking end of October?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 141 ✭✭canuck_copper

Hopefully, would have thought maybe open beginning of October?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 182 ✭✭BlueCop8790

If it follows the same trend as last year it could be late to end October until applications open.

How many do you think they’ll be looking for in the upcoming campaign?

I'm trying to work out how long I have to get in shape for this fitness test! It's difficult to say I understand especially with some people with dates to start gv and some just getting dates for it. Trying to average a time scale :-)

Just start now. Then stay fit.

Second go at this, fell at the AC by a mark, not this time.

Reports on the news says that catholic numbers joining the police is down. Worryingly there is a lot of calls for 50/50 to be returned, what do you guys think of this ?

PSNI is 66.61% protestant, 29.45% female. Ans that's after a decade of 50:50,

To be perfectly honest they need bodies, and the best bodies regardless of ethincity, community background, gender, sexuality and political belief.

I do not think the PSNI really care what your community background is.

No other public sector.body in NI cares so why should the police?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Goonerdee

I can’t see 50/50 being returned. The dissident threat has to be curtailed before they could consider a move back to that. I genuinely believe that the majority of Catholics no longer see the PSNI as a ‘Protestant police force’, they aren’t joining because they would be the primary targets.

Does anyone know if the IST has any maths questions? I've read it's verbal reasoning and situational judgement but just want to try and prepare for it (as much as I can lol) thanks

Nope, there is no maths questions. Just the SJT and verbal reasoning. There is loads of practice tests online that will help prepare you.

    Great news!

To be fair I was a little worried with the whole stormont mess as to wether they would have money to recruit and how they’ll get the budget sorted for next year

I believe the recruitment advertisement will be a month long, then processing the applications so it could be late November before they send out the IST. Looking back on last years email it was 29th November and it ran for 3 weeks but then the system had a meltdown so it was extended,
hopefully this will not happen this time around

Maybe be a bit sooner if it’s opening October 1st? Since last year opened October 23rd-nov 10th

I think they want to mirror last campaign.

I also dont think they will fast track this year as they wont need to

Hey lockie, welcome back! I was also around the boards last year but unfortunately just fell short of a pass at the AC. Here’s hoping this year is our year. Good luck to everyone that is wishing to apply in the upcoming campaign.

Hey everyone! This is our year! I can’t remember when I last spoke to everyone but in less than 2 weeks I get a contract from the MDP and still am completely undecided if it is actually something I want to pursue

    Hey guys.

It'll be my first ever time applying for the PSNI. Would the recruitment process be similar as the AGS . For anyone last year who did not meet the educational requirements, if you could help me out on where to sit a fast track in level 2

The wording on the Join PSNI page was incorrect.

It will be at a NI FE college or other adult education provider. And would be Essential Skills L2 Numeracy and Literacy

Strange question to ask on a public forum,i'd say you have the best of intentions but can't you see the obvious security implications if someone with evil in mind were to read this and any replies.you cant be too careful and all that.

I deleted the post to avoid anyone getting upset or feeling uncomfortable talking about it. I did not release any personal information or say anything that is really that edgy, I was just asking for the implications of it and how easy it is. There aren’t any security implications for this because they are only given to current service-people who live in NI but work outside NI but within the UK so that when they return to NI then they have the same daily protection as PSNI officers considering they are under just as much of a threat. Especially since MDP also have jurisdiction within NI so if I was at home then I would definitely want a PI due to the area I live in and past events within our communities. Of course, chances are it will never even be taken out of the holster let alone fired but it’s about service people having sufficient peace of mind when off duty in case the worst case scenario arises.

I apologise if anyone thought my post was malicious or could possibly feed the minds of the malicious.

Anyone in Northern Ireland is entitled to apply for a Firearms Certificate for a Personal Protrction Weapons if you can quantify a threat to your safety.

We are all also applying to the police so yanno it's a given that we are now targets

Exactly, although if you applied for a PI and your reason was “Applying to be a constable” then that alone wouldn’t get you one.

Another random question is, can you fly with your PI or how does it work that way?

Is the IST going to be the same format as last year or are they changing it again?

I’d say they’d keep the same format, although here’s hoping there is no issues this year.

Just to kick off with a debate!
Everywhere I read, the CC is quoted to be calling for an additional 300 officers in order to accommodate the increasing need for bodies in the wake of Brexit. That coupled with anyone retiring or leaving the force leaves a requirement for X amount of new PCs. Obviously open to speculation but can anyone determine what X is? I've been reading through pages and pages online to try and get as close to an answer as possible. Thoughts?

It's really frustrating that this cannot be answered because as he has revealed before and what was confirmed by the secretary of state. they have not got a clue what budget they have in the next tax year. Which means he doesn't know what money he can spend on recruitment.ggrrrrr
