I contacted rte re the new player and having the player in HD on Connect. No launch dates set for either. Doubtful they will be launched for Xmas I guess.

Slightly off topic but I remember them stating Apple TV and Android TV apps would be available

With the hard drive connected by usb, is there a possibility of corrupting files if the usb is just pulled out?

Sometimes with usb you have to safely unconnect on your laptop before physically removing the usb.

In the Humax 1100 Freesat EPG there is an option to eject safety USB if I recall.

I'd be thinking once you go over 1TB there may be problems.

I have a 2TB drive attached and don’t seem to have any issues

How are people finding the series link?
To test I recorded the 6 One news but the recordings have not batched under a single series but are all individual recordings.

Does a series link continue to record if the next episode is further than 7/8 days ahead?

Is RTE1 working ok on the box now. My RTE1 channel is glitching as if it stalls and then hits fast forward foe a second. When I switch to other channels there ia no problem.

    RECORDING SOFTWARE STATUS UPDATE

We recently announced that a recording software update would be made available for Saorview Connect boxes.

For the last couple of weeks we have been running a Beta trial and this has identified a bug that needs to be resolved before we can make the software available to everyone. The manufacturer's software developers are currently working on a fix for the bug, and at this stage we estimate that the software release will be delayed by approximately a couple of weeks.

We want to thank our Beta software testers for their valuable feedback, and to assure you that we are working towards a final release of the recording software update as soon as

Not surprised there. Consumers will be lucky to see that update before Christmas.

This really is turning into a disaster!! I guess I should have known.

Luckily I have a Humax HDR-2000T which can receive Irish channels. When I bought it it also had Series Link but this was de-activated for some weird reason.

Does anyone know why Series Link was deactivated on this box?

Official answer is the boxes were not strictly Saorview compliant. Unofficial answer is that Saorview did it on purpose handicap every non-certified PVR (such as those made for Freeview), although they'll never admit that - but we all know that's the reason.

So what was the major bug beta people .?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

The major bugs were listed a few pages back.

I watched some of the Late Late show on the rte player this evening. Not having ads makes the viewing so much easier and each interview is broken into its slot with the next one then playing.

The catch up is where the big growth is so they need to get the player right.

If they got netflix, youtube and maybe eir sports on the box it would entice the younger audience (and the older one too) to the box.

Netflix is a no-go according to the manufacturer as Netflix we’re not interested in certifying the box as the market would’ve been too small.

Was also informed that YouTube while unlikely was not impossible.

The last time I met with the Saorview guys I was told that Saorview did not want a competing platform on their box, perhaps that view has changed ? Would have thought that Netflix would welcome the opportunity.

The number of units are way too low for Netflix to get involved. Simply not worth it. Most modern TVs will have a Netflix app available anyways.

    Get involved how ?

Are most of these boxes linux based?
Saorview are shooting themselves in the foot if they don't get other content on the box.

We were asked to complete a user preference survey and one of the top things for me is having a universal remote where you can access all content.

Sky Q saw the benefit of having netflix on board, as have freesat.

The first choice of most people would be netflix or youtube. Have those on your box and there is a chance they will flick to the saorview channels. Otherwise saorview is out of sight and out of mind.

People have so many options now.

Interesting ....... is there a survey or such from Ireland that shows this - for people who watch channels on a TV (fixed position) rather than another device?

By developing an app for the box. The effort is not worth the reward for Netflix in this case.

More likely Netflix didn't want to be associated with such an embarrassment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,368 ✭✭✭✭Tony

They don't have to develop anything, netflix is available on set top boxes already with smaller markets that this one .

Is it not up to the manufacturer to meet a list of criteria for the box to be accepted by Netflix?

You'd swear that when Freesat "partnered" with Saorview that they didn't know what they were doing.

They have afterall implemented it on the Humax boxes since 2015.

I guess EKT havent included the Netfront Browser in these.
