From an Irish point of view I hope Sexton doesn’t start. Bundee targeted patchell all day long last Saturday and battered him. Poor Johnny isn’t able for that treatment anymore

Luke has his say
https://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/guinness-pro14/theres-a-real-hatred-building-in-leinster-for-them-luke-fitzgerald-on-connachtleinster-rivalry-37355004.html

The first inter-provincial derby of the season takes place between Connacht and Leinster at the Sportsgrounds this Saturday and Luke Fitzgerald says that there is a 'real hatred' building between the teams.
The two sides have played out some absorbing contests over the last few seasons, with the westerners coming out on top in the 2016 PRO12 final and also handing a Leinster a heavy defeat in the regular season finale last year.
At the end of that game, departing legend John Muldoon attempted a conversion following a late try - which Cian Healy attempted to block - with the Leinster prop branding the novelty moment as 'disrespectful' and adding that he was looking forward to the game in Galway to get his revenge for last season's result.
Speaking on The Left Wing, Independent.ie's rugby podcast, Luke Fitzgerald agreed with Healy that Muldoon's conversion was disrespectful to Leinster and added that the players would be using it as motivation for this weekend.

I would have taken that as a massive insult," Fitzgerald said.
"I'd say they have a big chip on their shoulder over that. That's the kind of thing that Leo Cullen - it would be an absolute no-no to disrespect your opposition when you are beating them badly. Leinster beat a lot of teams badly last year and you didn't seem them do that. I think it left a really bad taste in their mouth."
Fitzgerald added that there has been a heated rivlarly developing between the sides since two hotly contested clashes during the latter stages of the 2015/16 season. Connacht won both games and Fitzgerald says that Leinster players weren't happy with how the victors conducted themselves afterwards.
"There were a few incidents after the 2016 win as well that were taken really badly," Fitzgerald said.
"It happened in the Sportsgrounds a few weeks before as well. They hate us down there and there is a real hatred building in Leinster for them. After that one [PRO12 final], there were a few words afterwards. It's bad taste. It's just not classy. Real winners don't have to do that."

Let's not get ahead of ourselves - all of the hatred comes from Connachts side. We don't have the lingering hatred that comes with these games every year. We don't have it because they are like a blip on our windshield on our journey to further success.

Point still stands - we should beat them handily enough if we play them 10 times we would win 6/7 with our seconds.

Let's examine that claim, considering the game is in Galway.

2017-18 Connacht 47-10 Leinster
2016-17 Connacht 24 - 37 Leinster
2015-16 Connacht 7 - 6 Leinster
2015 Final Connacht 20 - 10 Leinster (Edinburgh)
2014-15 Connacht 10 - 9 Leinster
2013-14 Connacht 8 - 16 Leinster
2012-13 Connacht 34 - 6 Leinster
2011-12 Connacht 13 - 15 Leinster
2010-11 Connacht 6 - 18 Leinster
2009-10 Connacht 27 - 13 Leinster
2008-9 Connacht 19 - 18 Leinster

Games in Galway (plus neutral venue) - Connacht 7 wins, Leinster 4 wins

Aggregate score over 10 years: Connacht 215 - 158 Leinster

I said "should beat them" - not that we do beat them 6/7 times out of 10. "Should" comes down to teamsheets and having better players than them.

Now let's finish your little experiment by adding in games in Leinster - I think you'll find my point of 6/7 out of 10 stands correct.

You also said "with our seconds". Not with Connacht at home you wouldn't/shouldn't...

Just saw your edit. Yes, for games in the RDS I'd agree with you. Have left there disgusted so many times...

Tbh if Leinster were so hurt about it (which I dont believe they actually were outside of a throwaway line by Healy) then they shouldnt have been so utterly walloped that Muldoon was able to take a kick.

Healy's comments about Muldoon's conversion?
9fy4.gif

1) The kick was no big deal in the context of the day - Muldoon's final professional match after being a 1 Club Man, was nothing to do with Leinster
2) Healy being annoyed about it is no big deal - he is a professional and he can't exactly go "ara was sound", I've no issue with Healy

That said Luke Fitgerald is acting like a gowl though with his comments

I'm in a boring web meeting in work and not saying a whole lot, so did up the totals for the RDS games for the same period. My browser was a little slow and jerky, so I hope I got the scores right.

Leinster 10 wins, Connacht 0 wins. Agg. score: Leinster 215 - Connacht 115.

Not that it's relevant really, given this game is in the Sportsground.

Never mind Dennis O'Brien, I heard it was dirty Russian money that got Sexton back from France. And he was the one who got Trump elected...

75% if the aggregate difference came from the game last year :pac:
The one thing those stats highlight is how low scoring in general this fixture is. Some really dire games in there.

You mean tight and competitive! ;)

Although, to be fair, a lot of those games have been played in atrocious conditions around Christmas time. I thought the Sportsground was bad, but I have never been as wet and cold after a game as the RDS a couple of years ago...

I think it's fair to say that Zzippy is the Connacht equivalent of Luke Fitzgerald.

Then Venjur is the Leinster equivalent. Wait a minute... isn't Venjur always dropping in the fact he was a high level athlete but vague about what sport he played....

Lads, anyone ever seen Venjur and Luke Fitz in the same room?
