If Tipp are considered a tough draw for Mayo then we should fold the tent now and evetone who has told us this Mayo team are finished will be proven right.

An unknown Cork team took them to the cleaners.

I'd except this one to be a bit like the Clare game last year.

All things considered I'd fully expect Mayo to win and perhaps win handy enough, but I think people rating it as "tough" are talking on a relative scale.

Leitrim, Sligo, Longford and Carlow would be basically complete gimmes, Clare and Down were then the next tier of "should win but could be potentially be drawn into a dogfight", then Tipperary are a step ahead in that they may have enough to actually turn over Mayo if it's anything like previous abject back door performances, and of course the one to avoid was Monaghan

So it was probably the 2nd toughest draw and a team who has made the semis in recent years so they do need to be respected.

I think, however, that the upset would have been a bit more likely if this was a round 1 qualifier and Mayo were fresh from defeat in Connacht. As it is, it's been a month since the Galway match and they've hammered Limerick in the meantime

    Could be on the Sunday.

Ulster and Leinster finals on so no chance
All qualifiers will be on the Saturday I'd imagine

Just looking at the full draw and assuming a Mayo win, the chances of getting Monaghan or Tyrone in the next round are still only 2 in 7, so the probability of avoiding both is still high and what's left are pretty average at best.

Mayo played Kerry in All Ireland U21 final in Semple stadium back in 1995. It was a long drive then! Plus it was a hot summer.

Mouth watering clash against Tipp all the same. Wouldn't be taking anything for granted.

Much easier now, motorway from Tuam to about 20 miles from Thurles.

Even longer drive home after the beating we got that day.
It was a replay too after a draw in Tullamore

Have no excuses not to go to Thurles....unless I'm up in Mayo visiting :-)

Mayo to find themselves 0-6 to 0-1 down and look very dodgy in the 1st half then a goalkeeping mistake early in the 2nd half will swing the game in Mayo favour to eventually run out comfortable winners?

I dont think alot of teams would fear Mayo at this stage of the season.  Apart from the obvious cannon fodder like Limerick who have no chance, as evident from last year any competant team would have a shot at turning them over.  For example, even they wouldnt be their first choice, I think a team like Longford would have fancied their chances in Longford against Mayo.  Tipp will be a tough game if they havent lost their focus after the Cork defeat

Tricky draw but definitely a winnable one for Mayo. Tipp are a decent side and Quinlivan & Sweeney are top class forwards. However, I'd fancy Mayo to beat them.

I'd imagine a lot of Mayo fans may not have had much opportunity to go to Thurles down through the years as well so that should be a nice experience - great atmosphere in that town for a match (for hurling anyway).

Sampled some fine hurling games down there pre the brand new motorway.

Google Maps has it 3 hrs from Castlebar. (Am v bored at work. :o ) Thurles has a bad rep for traffic jams too, which will only add to the trip time.

Three hours good driving, some fairly poor roads and it's not by any means an easy ground to get away from.

    Hopefully a 2 or 3 o clock throw in.

Defo don't want a Sunday clash, quite fond of the Saturday games.

I'd have prefered a lot of the others Tyrone included, instead of Tipp.

I don't know what you are drinking but Mayo are the best team in the qualifier. No one will want to get us. We are playing better than this time last year. Tipp are a notch or two above Limerick but at the end of the day they are no where near Mayo. We should be winning this with a good few points to spare.

There is always the possibility of a flat performance but I'd still expect us to get through. We have too much quality to not get through.

Best team in the qualifier based on reaching the AI Final last year yes but what do you base playing better than last year on? You had a poor league and have lost to Galway again and have lost one of your most important players for the season.  The only highlight so far is beating arguably the worst team in Ireland.  It is quite arrogant to suggest that Tipp are no way near Mayo.

Monaghan and Tyrone won't beat Mayo imo.

I genuinely thought this year might pass Mayo by, but I'm beginning to doubt that.

I still think Mayo are top two and they'd beat this Kerry team. I think some of the Kerry lads will need a couple of years to adapt to championship final games.

Donegal might be a banana skin for everyone.

When you think about it the competition for Dublin is not great or not as good as it should be. Mayo past their best wondering how long they have left with this group of players, Donegal doing well in Ulster but in the grand scheme of things they are in transition and not near the level of 2012. Kerry turning to youth in the hope it creates a spark for them in the All Ireland series again. Tyrone,Monaghan,Galway etc will just be happy with All Ireland semi final spots.

This is not arrogance. I am just stating the most obvious things. We have a deeper quality in the team against tipp.

I was at the games in the qualifiers last year and we were like a team that had a skinful of beer the night before in some of these games. We had no drive in our play and looked really tired. I don't see the same this year but again this is just my opinion like yours is.

I know some will go mad with this but the sending off cost us the Galway game. We would have beaten Galway with 15 on the pitch and I think if we get to CP, we are back in business.

I’d expect it to be similar to 2016- mayo always in control. If mayo do indeed beat tipp at a canter, it will set tipp back years in terms of football

Mayo in fairness weren't in control of that game until the 2nd goal was scored in the 65 minute and that was a lucky goal as I think Evan Regan slipped as he was about to shoot and it fell nicely to Conor O Shea.

    10 mins played Mayo 0-2 Tipperary 0-2

    25 mins played Mayo 0-3 Tipperary 0-6

    55 mins Mayo 1-12 Tipperary 0-12

This time Mayo could well be in control and win at a canter as i think Tipp are one of those teams that put too much into the league and are already burnt out.

nope, I like Tipp footie people, they get the short end of the stick due to it being a hurling county. I would like to see them progress another few rounds, but that is unlikely now as Mayo should beat them.
