If you have something to add to the thread do so but this is nothing but sh1te!

That question was about Christians. How can those who aren't know what Christians think.
They did make a valiant effort at telling us what they thought we should think.
There's a huge difference in the two
How can you know what a woman you don't know thinks? But you seem to be happy that you know what's best for her.

    It'd have to be 65 :)

    Ha ha, very true.

We'll raise the voting age to 35 or even 40. Those young people are too easily swayed and not to be trusted.

I wouldn't be in favour of reducing the age any further

As I said, let's just wait and see the effects on society. We may not see that for 20 years.
We've devalued human life with the sweep of a pen. I don't see that as being a good thing.
We cry out about injuring a pregnant woman and it's a criminal offence to injure the child she's carrying. Yet it's now ok to kill the child she's carrying.

We raised the value of women. Women are human life. That is a great thing.

Would you honestly be happy that your partner die like Savita due to doctors unable to operate to save her life because they couldn't due to the 8th?

Your attitude towards the woman is pretty concerning. You'll also find that plenty of Catholics voted for repeal yesterday. This goes back to far reaching effects of the marriage referendum or divorce, it's scare mongering.

You wouldn't be the only one, but can't see any of them following up on their statements/promises.

Anyway its a nice day, time to get off this and enjoy some work outside.

So if I come up with some opinions on why Christianity is bad, I'm now qualified to discuss Christianity in your thread?

If you assault and injury a pregnant woman, that's still a crime. If you assault and injury a pregnant woman and cause injury to the child, it's still a crime.

What will happen now if a pregnant woman is murdered. Will it be counted as a double murder?

Nope. Was never counted as 2 counts of murder either.

    Thank f*ck this is over.
I voted yes because I believe in the concept of choice but this was the most toxic referendum this country has ever had.

I have equal disdain for the patronising, attention seeking, childish, ironically illiberal Yes side and the strange, permanently angry, controlling No side.

Best comment on here. This referendum exposed me to a side of Ireland that I was completely unaware of and absolutely detest.

I voted Yes also but I think I dislike the ungracious Yes side more. There is abaolutely nothing here to "celebrate".

What affects did we see when we voted for women to get their abortions in other countries?

There is abaolutely nothing here to "celebrate".

I didn't celebrate or even feel like celebrating. I am a man and I can't even begin to comprehend the oppression that was forced upon women and how they have been treated over pregnancy for decades and possibly centuries in Ireland.

I can't imagine what it must feel to have been one of those women that had to make the difficult journey when they forced to take the boat/plane without support from her country.

I can't imagine the fear of giving birth and knowing that if something goes wrong that death is a perfectly valid outcome due to the equal status that is actually an inequality.

I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is to be told you must give birth and the baby may not be able to take their first breath or only survive a short time.

Women have a right to celebrate if they wish. They are celebrating that they will not have to to suffer oppression again, and that they need not have so much fear during their pregnancies.

I've been at the celebrations. For the most part it was a celebration of the fact that women are now more protected than they were 35 years ago. That they won't have to travel as they have to before. That we won't have scenarios like Savita any more.

Doctors did not perform the correct responses in time to save her life. That was the main cause of the woman's death.

Doctors could not give her an abortion ehen she started miscarrying because of the 8th amendment. She did not have sepsis then. Sure you and yours can argue the sepsis wasnt responded to adequately if you want. But honest people would accept that giving her the termination when she started miscarrying would have prevented the sepsis and she would still be alive.

It is wrong to say the eighth did not contribute. The 8th is why she got sepsis.

this movement concerned about how the next guy perceived them, all trying to out do each other to seem the most liberal.

This has been pointed out time and time again but I’ll repeat it. People vote anonymously. You could appear to be as liberal as you want and as right on as you want but when it gets to it, you’re in that booth alone. Nobody there to “show off” to. Hell, you could actually vote the opposite way and still just say you went the liberal route for the kudos.

Time to accept that a vast vast majority simply disagreed with the legislation that was in place and democratically moved to do something about it.

It good to feel for and understand those who are affected by the 8th, and who are treated like second rate citizens.

Lots of atheists voted against it too.
Have you a point to make or is it just a opportunity for more Catholic bashing (btw..I'm not RC)

If you assault and injury a pregnant woman, that's still a crime. If you assault and injury a pregnant woman and cause injury to the child, it's still a crime.

And if you kill the unborn child for no reason other than its convenient it won't be a crime up to 12 weeks.

I campaigned for Yes in Tipp, strong Mattie McGrath country. I can tell you, it was a sigh of relief and restoration of my faith in the people of my county.
I'm celebrating the fact that leaving my kids every evening for the past month has achieved something monumental in this country. I'm celebrating that being called nasty names by complete strangers was worth it. I'm celebrating that on the nights where we had 3 volunteers compared to Mattie's huge gaggle we didn't give up. I'm celebrating that our country gives a **** about women in crisis!

It's never been a double murder before. Why would it be one now?

She died from sepsis poisoning and the inability of the medical to recognise the signs.
Medics on one side will say the 8th killed her. Medics on the other side will say it didn't.

I voted Yes myself and am glad to have done so but some of the sh*te ya see is unbearable. This one on my friends list was watching the Champions League final last night in her local and said she was full sure the chorus of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sang by the drunken Liverpool fans there was directed towards the women of Ireland and the 8th amendment.
