She died from sepsis poisoning and the inability of the medical to recognise the signs.
Medics on one side will say the 8th killed her. Medics on the other side will say it didn't.

If it was your partner in Savitas situation you’d prefer her to die rather than having an abortion?

The one additional thing I think the government needs to include in the legislation is the banning of anti-abortion protests within a kilometre of any facility that provide abortions. It is difficult enough for any woman to go through without having to face a baying mob.

Do you know what sickens me? Some of these staunch No voters seem to think the women going through this deeply personal and emotional procedure are going there with bells on, like it’s the greatest buzz and a celebration. This is still going to be a very somber affair and everyone would do well to keep that in mind. People aren’t gonna be going to get terminations and partying the whole way there and back. It’s still gonna be so so tough I’d imagine.

Any clowns thinking of adding misery or guilt to that should really think about respecting a) the democratic wish of the people and b) the woman who makes up the other side of the famous LoveBoth

I saw elderly people badgered by women with pink hair and nose rings on streets and in cafe's to vote for something they did not feel comfortable with.

Lucky the actual vote is entirely 100% anonymous so isn’t it.

Lots of atheists voted against it too.
Have you a point to make or is it just a opportunity for more Catholic bashing (btw..I'm not RC)

The reason I mentioned Catholicism is because hard line Catholics tried to push the idea that good Catholics shouldn't vote yes. It gave many conflicted feelings but many chose to vote yes, my mother included. My point was not to bash Catholics as you read it. My point was that the reality is that pro choice Catholics were a significant part of those who voted yes. If anything it's praise that they didn't end up dictated to, in much the same way as the marriage referendum.

Real as hundreds of babies in a septic tank.

Where do foetuses miscarried by abortion pills generally end up?

Also septic tanks. That is the harsh reality few are willing to talk about.

Good to see the no side keep up the troll level posts.

Strawman argument. Cases like Savitas are completely seperate from unrestricted abortion up to 12 weeks and should be treated as such. Over-whelming amout of people agree abortion should have been provided in Savitas case. Difference of opinions relate to 12 week unrestricted abortion.

I've lost count of Yes side misrepresentations at this stage.

There has been a complete lack of light and clarity during this referendum.

There's outrage over Tuam babies in septic tanks but nothing at all said about aborted foetus's who will end up flushed down the toilet. Complete hypocrisy.

Are we allowed call others trolls now on boards.ie? Have they changed the rules?

They absolutely did. I saw elderly people badgered by women with pink hair and nose rings on streets and in cafe's to vote for something they did not feel comfortable with. Nobody was allowed have any adverse opinion to a Yes vote in public conversation.

    Canvassers in canvassing shocker!

I know this is nitpicking but it’s bugging me. The plural of foetus is foetuses, not foetus’s

There are far more miscarriages than abortions. Do you want to criminalise miscarriages because for whatever reason the woman’s body didn’t do ax you expected?

Not really the people who allowed babies to die and put them in a septic tank were supposed to be taking care of them not abusing them and others in their care, a hypocrisy you obviously don't see.

Don't like the fact you lost sure you can start protesting outside hospitals or GP surgeries if you feel that strongly about it.

They are totally included as the issue was te 8th amendment not one smaller chunk that you fancy picking.

That was the other referendum held on Friday which only those who agreed were told was occurring!

At least the people having abortions are engaging in all aspects of their own free will.

    They died of illness.
Different to deliberately ending their existance through induced miscarriage, flushing them down the toilet and then calling it "dignified".

No but I didn't call you a troll, learn to understand the difference.

We're not allowed call people murders etc, but the no side have no problems doing that either.

I'm a massive no supporter, I voted no. However, the carry-on and disgusting behaviour of the no side has me seriously regretting my decision.

Am I doing it right? I keep forgetting how it's supposed to go again.

Save your bullsh*t lads. It's almost as if the same people have cut and pasted the exact same comments from the same sex marriage referendum.

I was going to vote yes, but...

    I voted yes, but...

As for people still debating the referendum, what's going on there? It's over, it was a resounding win for the yes side. Legal, safe abortion is coming to Ireland.

I'm always amazed at the people who decry what happened but conveniently ignore the fact that many of these women were handed over to these institutions by their families.
It doesn't minimise what happened to them but where is the culpability of the families in all this?

At least the people having abortions are engaging in all aspects of their own free will.

    Maybe so.
My issue is with the hypocrisy of saying Tuam babies who died of illness had an undignified burial.
Do you think flushing a foetus down a toilet is also dignified? Its about as undignified an ending as you can get.

But hey lets all celebrate. Great day for Ireland and all that sh1t.

I'm sure the yes side will be out campaigning for them as well.

I do know plenty on the yes side who do lots of volunteer work in general, myself included. So that'd be a yes.

Plenty already do from the yes side and I'm sure some of the no side who aren't motivated by religion.

Delighted. Was cautiously optimistic over the final week to ten days, thinking Yes would just about get it over the line, 55:45 max. Feels good being wrong.

Another reaffirmation that headbangers on here and the likes of Iona who are so sure they represent the views of a silent majority who are ignored by a tiny liberal elite are just. Plain. Wrong. That silent majority doesn't exist. This is a liberal democracy and a decent, compassionate society; and now our laws can more accurately reflect that in one very important way.

This has been a very difficult campaign for a lot of people, and I do feel sorry for No voters too. None of this was pleasant, but the outcome was the right one. Difficult question, complicated cultural context and we made the right call. Very proud to be Irish today. I'm sure we'll have another few atrocities from the era of church control to be uncovered at some point though.
