Some big, interesting clouds are brewing up, mainly to my south but clouds are building to my north albeit less interesting.

Frost this morning and then a beautiful morning. Cloudy now. Co.Leitrim

While temperatures are low, the sun is quite strong and in sheltered sunny areas one will notice the temperature alot higher.

Beautifully sunny in West Clare, however looking to the South I don't know how long that'll last.

For what it is worth, here is the average daily maxima & minima for the nation as a whole for each third of May. Base period 1991 - 2017:

    Deg.C Max/Min

    May 1 - 10: 14.3 / 6.4
    May 11- 20th: 14.6 / 7.1
    May 20 - 31: 15.6 / 8.1

As it stands, this May is currently running 0.5c above the stated average.

There's been some heavy rain here in the last hour. 3.8mm recorded now. It's 10.2C.

That was such a pathetic shower. Very light drizzle that didn't dampen the ground. The sun is out again.

Still holding dry but cloudy, grass is cut though

Now it's like the morning again here with lots of blue skies.

Seems Arklow has had a lovely day too.

A stunning day across Waterford County with Sun from Waterford City in the far east to Dungarvan in the West. Max temp at my station in Waterford city 14.2c so nothing spectacular but the sun is so strong this time of year temps are not the be all and end all.

What a morning. Heat in the sunshine already! Any chance this lasts the day?

Any sign of any of our regular experts summer long range forecast? or is it too early?

Not a bad morning here. It’s not stunning it’s not roasting but it’s dry and the sun is in and out. When out it’s very pleasant when it’s in it’s cool. We’re all different as we’ve learned but 12 degrees to me is a bit meh really.

High pressure over top of us by Wednesday and on the GFS 0z run, getting into an easterly by Sunday next week. Not very warm and sunny type charts but quiet and settled.

It seems the GFS is undercooking the temperatures a bit.

I'd expect temperatures in the mid to high teens though depending on cloud cover.

Which should see the tabloids running with their Ireland sizzles in temps of 16 degrees nonsense.
