    Nostalgic nonsense there Joe.
This generation has more value on all the people in society generally than previous generations.

Too much has come out in the last 20 or 30 years to play the 'in my day things were better' card.

Wrong poster there Francie, I have already commented on disagreement with that post.

A few further comments towards that poster have gotten too personal in my opinion. Attack the opinion by all means but why question the posters mental state

    Hi Appledreams,

When you read the comments about you here, you will know you have made the right decision to get out.

To the rest of you - you should be ashamed of yourselves for attacking her and your bullying attitude.

So she can post what she likes on a discussion forum but not be challenged on it?

    This isn't Facebook.

The level of misogyny which she suggests is rife in Ireland is scaremongering and downright false.

This generation is troubled. 50% of young adults have mental health problems in Northern Ireland (statistics from last week).

And while a lot of bad stuff have come out, a whole generation were not affected by it. For instance, no one in my family suffered sexual abuse and there are 1000s of families like that. It wasn't the norm.

You can challenge what she says, not speculate on why she says it.

Shes the one doing the insulting.

"Bullying" the latest goto word for something we dont want to face up to, demeans real and actual bullying.

She writes on an open discussion board and we then reply and disagree ? Where is the problem again ?
And how come you don't see that she insulted a whole gender ? You find that ok do you ?

Yes, it is bullying. Read over the comments which were way too personal.

I would tend to agree with most of that, as a society we have come a long way, and overall we live in a better place.
But that should not mean we assume everything is great now, there are different types of pressures facing young people, social media drive for perfection and freely available porn normalising aggresive sex are issues our generation did not face.

The increased numbers with mental health problems are also partly down to better diagnosis and understanding. I went through school in the 80 and genuinely never heard the word autistic. Plenty of people were a bit "odd" though

Oh I am sorry but " my generation " were not all respectful . I lived through nuns and Christian brother beat the hell out of children and far worse too . But I don't tar all nuns or all Brothers or all men or all women with the same brush . In my day the men I knew were respectful of women and today the men I know are too . In all generations there are good and there are bad but to tar them all as being bad is actually ignorant . I will protect my husband and my father and my brothers and sons and nephews and friends from being lumped in with the bad and tarred with the " all men are bad " brush

Fine disagree with her opinion. But don't speculate as to why she has that opinion and infer that there is something wrong with her and not what her experience is.

Just be grateful you have had a great life and maybe show a bit of empathy who may have not have had the same experience as you.

    It's nonsense and nostalgic tosh.

Life was far from equal for men and women, people were institutionally abused, poverty levels were far higher and we were cripplingly insular and Roman Catholically conservative and if you were one that was unlucky enough to be mentally unwell, you more often than not locked away in a horrible mental home.

Sanctimonious bulls hit. That poster is deluded and people with attitudes like that are the main cause of the rift between men and women.

She can spout any amount of ****e that she wants. But replying and commenting about her is not bullying.

Should be ashamed of ourselves? Ask my hole.

But there is a very particular kind of hatred towards women, combined with alcoholism in Ireland.

This is b.s. of the highest order. Honestly you seem to have a few issues which warp your opinions.

I was referring to the general pack attack here. I'm not going to go through everyone's post and point out where they went wrong.

I'm not claiming everything was perfect back then. Despite the improvement in standards of wealth, health, housing, education etc., other problems have arisen such as alcoholism, mental health and substance abuse which seems to be disproportionally affecting young adults.

That poster you are claiming is being 'bullied' has posted opinions such as 'all men in Ireland hate women and it's a tradition of hatred that is being passed from father to son'.

There's also been claims that Ireland is the most misogynistic nation on earth and is viewed as such by the rest of the world - not to mention the comparisons to India in terms of an alleged 'rape culture'.

I think most people would agree those are opinions that offers nothing to reasoned, constructive and logical debate on this particular topic.

    You claimed it was 'better'.
It most certainly wasn't for many more than it is worse for now.

Well, you identified yourself with the pack here:
She writes on an open discussion board and we then reply and disagree ? Where is the problem again ?
And how come you don't see that she insulted a whole gender ? You find that ok do you ?

As for her insulting a whole gender - I would rate personal attacks on her as being worse.

So because she posts her opinion that you don't agree with, its ok to make personal attacks on her as to why she thinks that?

" We " is not necessarily a pack by the way.

    Bolix.

Sex scandals have being going on since day dot.

Time and morals change, the hormone driven acts between young adults? Nope.
