This generation is troubled. 50% of young adults have mental health problems in Northern Ireland (statistics from last week).

And while a lot of bad stuff have come out, a whole generation were not affected by it. For instance, no one in my family suffered sexual abuse and there are 1000s of families like that. It wasn't the norm.

I would tend to agree with most of that, as a society we have come a long way, and overall we live in a better place.
But that should not mean we assume everything is great now, there are different types of pressures facing young people, social media drive for perfection and freely available porn normalising aggresive sex are issues our generation did not face.

The increased numbers with mental health problems are also partly down to better diagnosis and understanding. I went through school in the 80 and genuinely never heard the word autistic. Plenty of people were a bit "odd" though

Oh I am sorry but " my generation " were not all respectful . I lived through nuns and Christian brother beat the hell out of children and far worse too . In all generations there are good and there are bad but to tar them all as being bad is actually ignorant . Fine disagree with her opinion. But don't speculate as to why she has that opinion and infer that there is something wrong with her and not what her experience is.

Just be grateful you have had a great life and maybe show a bit of empathy who may have not have had the same experience as you.

Life was far from equal for men and women, people were institutionally abused, poverty levels were far higher and we were cripplingly insular and Roman Catholically conservative and if you were one that was unlucky enough to be mentally unwell, you more often than not locked away in a horrible mental home.

I'm not claiming everything was perfect back then. Despite the improvement in standards of wealth, health, housing, education etc., other problems have arisen such as alcoholism, mental health and substance abuse which seems to be disproportionally affecting young adults.

That poster you are claiming is being 'bullied' has posted opinions such as 'all men in Ireland hate women and it's a tradition of hatred that is being passed from father to son'.

There's also been claims that Ireland is the most misogynistic nation on earth and is viewed as such by the rest of the world - not to mention the comparisons to India in terms of an alleged 'rape culture'.

I think most people would agree those are opinions that offers nothing to reasoned, constructive and logical debate on this particular topic.
