Tullamore and picturesque used the the same sentence just there on rte's six-one news... The country is losing the run of itself.

This is from North Dublin looking east. Howth Head is usually visible on the left of the horizon and the out to sea in the middle of the pic. The wind has got angrier sounding in the last hour or so...

Anyone who thinks it's a non event should watch the news now to see all the snow. Bare in mind this is before Storm Emma has even hit.

I'm in rural North Cork/South Limerick border, no snow here for the past few days bar a few small flurries for half an hour about 4.30 this evening, it is extremely cold though and in the past hour the sky has turned an errie grey

Why is the luas also cancelled tomorrow? Isn't the warning due to end at lunch time tomorrow?

I understand dublin bus being cancelled because it will take a while to clear every road

Winds have picked up last hour here gusting at times.

Ps what makes me laugh is people complaining about little to no snow do you want to be stuck in your house for a week or something buried in 5ft of snow ? Lol

Temp dropping back again, 0.1C and nice light snow.
A drop here too from -0.3 down to -0.5c.
Joan Blackburn has just said that snow should turn to rain only on the south coast tomorrow. I am less worried now than I was half an hour ago- this easterly has taken 30 years to get here!
do you want to be stuck in your house for a week or something buried in 5ft of snow
Yes, when I was a youngster I used to be mesmerised by tales of 1947 from the old folk.

For those whining about a "thaw", you need to understand that ground temperatures below the top few cm of ground are not freezing, thus this would cause lying snow to thaw slowly on a continuous basis and will ensure that when the air temperatures rise, the thaw will be fairly rapid.

Last Sunday air temps were 11 degrees and grass had started to grow - I was almost tempted to give mine a top cut as it had decent growth in the last 2 weeks and round was very dry.
So reasonable soil temps sees snow melting slowly even if air temps are still negative as the snow actually insulates the ground from the negative air temps.

The big positive of this weather is that it will kill off a lot of annoying insects and bacteria about.

Heavier precipitation. Poor visibility already. Thick clouds rolling in. This could be epic later

The clean up starts after the warning.

The snow is due to continue all through tomorrow in Dublin.

Even if it did stop by 12, do you expect them to have the tracks clear and safe to travel on immediately?
